As someone who mains both Gangplank and Miss Fortune...

...Riot, you have no idea how hard I fangirled right now. Let's get the good stuff out of the way first, they look freaking amazing. I was worried when I saw VU next to GP because I loved "YARR I'M A PIRATE!", but he still looks insanely cool. Miss Fortune looked like a raggedy Ann doll forever, so I'd take what I can get.

Gangplank's new passive is awesome. It feels so much like his old one, only without making your opponents feel like crap, and not being useless!

Gangplank's new E is freaking AWESOME. I hated how boring his E felt despite it's massive hidden power in AD heavy comps and as a support. BUT YOU CHANGED IT PERFECTLY! I CAN STILL PLAY HIM AS A SUPPORT!

Alright, now onto my gripes.

  1. I know that GP's W had some serious hidden power with the 100% AP ratio, but I'd actually like to see AP Gangplank a viable build option. Is there an AP Ratio on the powder kegs and his W? I'd be willing to settle with a 40% ratio on his W, as long as he's allowed to have it. Makes Tankplank more viable as well.
  2. The grievous wounds were part of Miss Fortune's identity. I hope you're willing to give her magic damage a power spike as a tradeoff for that, because my utility build for her just took a major hit, indirectly with the Black Clever changes, and now directly with the removal of the GW. If you did not give her magic damage a power spike, at the very least have the ratio scale with Bullet Time (not the stack amount as you do now), and have GW proc on max stacks. That's more than acceptable if you ask me.
  3. WHERE THE HELL ARE THIER LAUGHS WHEN THEY CAST THEIR ULTIMATE??!!! THAT'S SOME SERIOUS STEALTH NERFS THERE RIOT AND I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT!

...ok, now that that's over, I'd like to know who the brains behind the operation was. Because with some balance tweaks for identity, I think that this could be the best reworks that Riot has ever done.

Edit: #4 has been confrimed by Riot to still happen. Can confirm that I heard the laugh to be played on Gangplank's ultimate from FrostyNinja's video. Miss Fortune appears to have updated VOs on her launch, but I havent' personally heard them yet.

From the numbers changes alone, at least from what I can see from the PBE on lolwiki, I'm not convinced that MF is going to be in a better spot, and may be in a worse one. Of course, I'm going to have to play her myself to confirm, but that huge nerf to her W doesn't give me a gameplay boner (her W active only lasts for 3 shots, not simply duration nerf). I feel like they're trying to rework her into an AD caster, but having a passive that applies magic damage scaling with AD and applying on hit effects seriously defeats the purpose. I hope they prove me wrong with the new Q AI, but she could also be completely bug ridden like Azir was (and still is).

As for Gangplank, that's a completely different story. The 100% AP ratio on Remove Scurvy is staying to compensate for the huge base numbers nerf, on top of the just all around buff to Cannon Barrage. He finally has some utility outside of his ultimate in terms of crowd control, and supplements the burst in his kit. However, I'm going to say right off the bat that Death's Daughter is already heads and shoulders above the other two upgrades, and I'm already not particularly fond of Fire at Will. DPS is nice, but from all of the games I've played as Gangplank recently (quite a bit mind you, I'm mastery V) people don't sit in his ultimate. It's a much more effective zoning tool, so being able to drop a 300 damage magic nuke, or speed your allies up is much much better than DPS. Riot may want to consider doing something different with Fire At Will (damage to minions increased?) because right now it's extremely inferior to Raise Morale, and especially inferior to Death's Daughter.

Teal Deer, from a gameplay perspecitve its a mixed bag. Gangplank is extremely superior to the way he is right now (although to play Devil's Advocate literally anything could be better since Gangplank was literally one of the most doomed champions to exist), but unless my hunch is incorrect, Miss Fortune's new kit isn't going to help her all that much, and may actually hurt her late game even worse. Only 5.14? 15? will tell.

These teaser pages usually don't play champion audio on them, which I assume explains the silence.

If I had to wager a guess, they're also updating their VOs. I hope they keep GP and MF's laughs though. They both had the best ones in the game. Don't believe me? Go onto lol wiki, go to the backgrounds of each champ, and play GP and MF's 3rd and 4th laugh.

I am sure GP will be getting a VO, but not sure on MF. Really hoping they don't change MF's VO cause I love it how it is

They both have really great voices, but they also don't have a whole lot to say. In the day and age where Dunkmaster Darius has unique taunts for around 30 champions and Tahm Kench gets to have unique jokes for whether certain champions on his team or the enemy's, hearing Gangplank yell to "Swab the poop deck!" 30 times gets a little tiring. But hey, if they can get Scott McNeil to do Sion, I know they'll do Gangplank and Miss Fortune justice.

Just make it so Gangplank sounds like he's loving his job and having the time of his life making money and shooting motherfucker and im alright with it, no need for another edgy and dark VO

Yea this new VO almost seems like another Sion with how annoyingly brutal it is(was uploaded on youtube). It almost makes me sad seeing my old clownplank go away because while he was not extremely intimidating he was always a riot to play. Though, the lore makes it understandable as it focuses more on his fearsome aspects. Gangplank (I wish he was able to get a traditional skin with his old VO)

Riot member confirmed in comments they keep VO disabled because these show in many regions.

As was posted on Reddit earlier, the ability preview videos have voice audios muted because they go out to every region. They'll both still laugh while ulting.

Riot has said before that they don't support champions being able to take alternate builds unless those builds differ greatly from the original in terms of playstyle.

It looks like Gangplank is already going to be very heavily focused on using his barrels for damage, so I don't see why they'd bother giving them an AP ratio.

Initially I wasn't very excited about the GP E change. But then someone said GP support. Realized he could drop a keg in one bush, and then pop it from another bush to do some nice AoE damage to the enemy. But otherwise, I'm not seeing it being used much. But hey. Who knows? Maybe I'll be surprised.

Well said. I completely agree that removing GW from Miss Fortune puts her in a really bad spot, especially since there are a lot of champs who have insane health-regen/life steal/heals like: Volibear, Vladmir, Garen, Rengar, Nasus, Gangplank, to name a few. Not to mention all of the champs who don't have those abilities can just build flat life steal with items. Grievous Wounds were crucial on Miss Fortune, and made her a decent duelist, but now I don't know where she'll end up.

Oh, and I really hope they both keep their laughs when they use their ultimates. Gotta love the hardy pirate laughs!!

From the looks of it they are in the process of reworking the way regen in general works, and removing grevious wounds is the first step of that. Those champs have to have obscene regen when someone like MF could cut their regen in half. That is especially problematic on someone like MF who is DPS based, who should be countered by tanky sustain like Volibear and instead she could just shred him through his passive because of grievous wounds. I wouldn't be too surprised if the next step was to remove GW from Varus and item 3165, and then nerf regen on those regen heavy champs.

  1. Note the number one thing brought up about the champ is how she likes the way he looks.
  2. His new passive helps the tank meta get a better hold; tanks not worrying whether they can be healed by their support is stupid OP.
  3. His new E is completely situational and won't be as affective as his old E
  4. Tank Plank is still viable since it is %HP based on what you are missing from what I hear. In fact tank is the default build.. no more crit plank.
  5. Miss Fortune was falling off the ADC Range carry list as more and more ranged Tank Busters are valued because of the current tank meta... like Vayne and Kog (Season 2 all over again see 2010)
  6. This isn't the best rework. It is a bandaid to help their current meta. No spiky damage and no burst the Rito way... Something not found in their core of the game (the original DoTa) .. hopefully the game Spike wakes up Riot balancing team to how much they are failing.

Now hold on. Critplank is still a thing, ESPECIALLY if the barrel explosions scale with AD. The burst potential is going to be higher than before

A rioter said the laughs are still there don't worry ^_^. Champ audio was off for that video.

Confirmed. Listened to his VOs from FrostyNinja. There is a laugh that's echoed, assumed to be for when he ults.

I'm checking the stuff out on PBE as soon as it updates. Will edit this once I check them out. BE PATIENT, WILL YOU? I'M TOO EXCITED AS WELL

Edit of Edit: I GOT AN UPDATE FOR YOU SCURVY AP GANGPLANKS:

W still scales 1-1 with AP, and ult got 3 damage from 25 ap (multiply that times 12, it's per wave), and the E scales on whatever you used to kill it, but does physical. In other words, you can still lich Q a barrel for lich hits.

Ult upgrades currently do not work and will not allow me to upgrade them, sadly. I only read one of the upgrades (giant cannonball at the start) and holy hell: 300% TRUE DAMAGE initially. If that scales, you AP gangplanks are going to be happy men.

let's hope GP's new gameplay will be awesome, because his visuals and audio are garbage with that update, he no longer has his awsome laugh, not even close :( and his face is so elongated that he looks like he got his hair stuck in a high power vacuum cleaner for too long and it stretched his head in a weird way i can't wait to try MF to see what's different since she's my main AD champ
