I'm 110% done with the Bronze Shaming.

Edit: I encourage you to read this entire post before you just tell me to "git gud scrub"

So I just got done with a game where the top laner and ADC pretty much just nitpicked me to death about me being Bronze. They did not hesistate to tell me that I made over 500 mistakes in that game (yet they failed to specify what they were, primarily because they weren't focused on making me a better player). I think what really set me off and made me write about this was in the middle of the game (them nitpicking me started from the beginning when they checked my ELO with NAOPGG and figured out I was Bronze I).

What happened that set me over the edge was when it was mid game and the enemy Lee Sin was coming bot lane with Yasuo against the top laner and ADC. I pinged them to be careful because there was no vision of them outside of them, and generally 2v4s against a tank, two burst assassins, and an ADC that deals true damage generally means that you're fucked if you don't know it's coming. The response I got? Not "thank you" not "Soraka you saved our asses" it was "don't you ping us you bronzie."

Yes, you heard that right. I got flamed for being a good team player. Solely because I was Bronze. To really add insult to injury, you know what my score was endgame? 4/0/17. I didn't feed, I didn't steal any kills from the ADC (despite him being the primary one that was flaming me all game), and I fucking picked a support that synergized well with the carry because I wanted to be a good team player. Yeah, we stomped that game, and yeah, I considered that S+ rank I acquired at the end of the game properly deserved (unlike the one I got from that game where the enemy carry intentionally fed), but this game wasn't one of the best I played. It was one of the worst because two assholes thought that just because they were platinum that they were allowed to flame me all game for every little mistake I made. Forgive me for not playing this game perfectly 24/7. Don't you think if I played this game perfectly, I'd know it by now, and would be picketing outside of TSM asking why they're looking for supports in SK when the best one's right here? (HEAVY SARCASM OBVIOUSLY)

I quite frankly don't know what's worse. Having to deal with the toxicity, feeding, and AFKing in ranked at my ELO trying to climb, or having to deal with "well, all Bronzies are fat ans stupid HEU HA HA, HOH HOH, SNORT, HO HO, WERP WERP WERP WERP WERP" in normals.

That's not them shaming you for being bronze, that's them shaming you because they're elitist assholes.

You get this kind of behavior at all levels of play. The plat 5 player will trash talk the silver 1 in his game. The Gold 5 player will trash talk the silver 3 player in his game.

Being bronze obviously carries a negative perception, but in general it just boils down to people who are insecure about themselves and feel a need to lord their perceived superiority over others. Those people are empty inside, they're trying to justify themselves by saying they're better at something than you purely because of a ranking (which may or may not even be true). It's best to just ignore them. And honestly making this thread isn't going to help the cause, and if they saw it they would probably appreciate that they made you upset because that's just the type of people they are.

Report and move on with your life imo. If it gets out of hand I'll mute people, though I try to stay away from that when I can.

ElJanitorFrank6/12/2015, 10:21:41 PM39 votes

It's pretty funny, actually. Your MMRs have to be pretty similar, which either means you play much better than someone in Bronze and they shouldn't be insulting you, or they have been playing so badly recently they're getting matched with bronze players.

Considering your score, you're much better than a bronze player.

Catastrop6/12/2015, 9:23:29 PM22 votes

It's things like these that make me afraid to attempt Ranked in all my 3 years of playing this game.

I Main Swain6/13/2015, 1:29:11 AM15 votes

what I find funny is that they're getting at you for being bad, yet they're matched with you and others in the rank of bronze. wouldn't that mean they aren't any better?

BlueThingamajig6/12/2015, 10:38:24 PM14 votes

The mute button is your friend. There is no reason you should listen to their shit.

Mute, enjoy the rest of your game, then report when you are done. A friend of mine has over 400 people on his block list. It works, I promise.

TeemoJenkins6/12/2015, 7:36:54 PM13 votes

110% is a mathematical impossibility Bronzie. :)

Honestly, just mute them. No good comes of listening to people that have made a decision to be toxic. Don't respond, just mute or ignore them and report in end game.

We had a Bronze I Warwick playing with Silver IV-III players, including me.

We won and he did some serious work.

Most of the community is Bronze/Silver. That's no reason to discredit someone right off the bat. He could just be climbing.

just browsing the thread a little, these are all great points.

And let me guess, after you stomped they told you "GG get carried bronzie" solely because you played support?

Talk about asshats. I'm sorry man, you probably do deserve silver and maybe gold (Soraka is NOT that easy, she's like the Vayne of supports except not a lot of damage. Considering how her heal works, it's impressive to not die).

Dedrius6/13/2015, 12:30:46 AM5 votes

People get flamed at all ELO's, its not just bronze. Everyone just tries to make themselves feel special by putting someone else below them because that is the only way they know how. I was in a game where one of my teammates was flaming another because it took him like 700 games to get Diamond. The guy was being flamed for taking too long to get diamond, I was dumbfounded and it really made me realize there are assholes at all points in the game.

That is another reason I hate playing normals. Every time I want to try something new or work on a champ I am not very good at I get flamed for being Diamond and not going legendary on a champ I am not good at.

Assholes will be assholes, just have to deal with them.

ModKnightsKemplar6/12/2015, 10:33:11 PM5 votes

Just keep doing you. Report those guys and don't sweat it. Obviously, they are jerks, and you shouldn't care about their opinion. Sounds like you played a good game. Use that mute button, my friend.

It's just a god complex/elitest mentality

Challengers will trash talk Masters Masters will trash talk Diamonds Diamonds will trash talk Plats Plats will trash talk Golds Golds will trash talk Silvers Silvers will trash talk Bronze Bronze will trash talk Challengers

Personally I enjoy the ranking that I'm at. I only played my provisional matches and got placed in bronze. After that I didn't play ranked at all. Never even tried to climb the ladder. Last season I was gold 5, which is nice and all, but I find it hilarious when my ELO puts me up against golds and plats because they expect me to be terrible at the game. Then I kick their asses because they underestimate me. They might have played differently if I were on the same ranking as them, sure, but I never cease to find this hilarious in normals. "Oh, this jungler is only bronze 3? gg noobs!"

I do not think that all higher ranking players are elitist pricks, but I do think that underestimating ones opponent is the most bronze thing a player can do besides falling for the "press D to dance" trick. Yeah, I might be a troll for doing this, but I'm the troll bronze 3 that made a gold or better look like an asshole, and for that I am truly happy I play league of legends.

If you aren't the top slot of challenger you're a shit player according to LoL players.

The community is full of elitist pricks. Every player needs a different amount of time to climb. Like honestly even tho my rank is decent and I score well most of the time people still act like I'm an inebriated feeder that's 100% useless in a lot of games. And I know friends in plat and diamond who deal with the same thing. People are just egotistical. This is why the mute button is my favorite thing :)

Auroramancer6/14/2015, 12:43:52 AM3 votes

The flip-side of this is being Diamond in solo ranked queue, and then wanting to goof off in a normal queue game or try out a new champion for the first time and getting flamed with "lol how are you diamond" and "how much did you buy your account for".

Even when you explain to them "it's a normal queue", "trying out a new champ, sorry", or "i'm not tryharding for this", it's always "lol tell me again how much to buy account" and "you're reported".

All levels of play get picked on by assholes, and those assholes exist in all levels of play.

nosafterburn6/12/2015, 9:29:40 PM3 votes

huh, my ranked goal is to hit bronze 5 by trying my hardest to play well. if i can do that than i can say that i now know my mistakes and can only go up right?

Ariel the Cruel6/13/2015, 12:19:21 AM3 votes

them nitpicking me started from the beginning when they checked my ELO with NAOPGG and figured out I was Bronze I).

I found your first problem. If you hadn't played ranked, they wouldn't be able to look it up.

just because they were platinum

Welp. They F'ed up even worse. That proves they've played ranked repeatedly. I pity their poor sanity.

  • Next question: why are plats playing with a bronze? it can't be duo queue, since Riot removed that ability beyond certain thresholds. So either you're about to skip a division going up. . . Or they're about to skip a division going down. . . . Or you were playing normals. Which has it's own MMR and nobody gives 2 ++++'s about rank.

Regardless. Real pros don't play ranked; you should have just stuck with us.

"git gud scrub"

Before "that guy" shows up: this is my only account. There are no smurfs. Now go LoLking someone else.

WyvernEgg6/13/2015, 7:55:33 PM3 votes

Don't play support in bronze. Play secondary mage.

Elizasleyn6/13/2015, 3:20:13 AM2 votes

Skill is relative, don't let other people put you down. Mute them, and focus on your own game, and don't let their words discourage you because learning from your mistakes is part of the game.

Lordofthepittt6/13/2015, 3:28:34 AM2 votes

One of the reasons I don't play ranked is because of the community.
For example, season 4 I did my placement matches. And I lost a few of them due to feeders, people going AFK, and people being really argumentative over nothing.... Which is one of the reasons I don't play ranked now. I want to... but I don't want to go through that garbage again.
Like others have stated, its usually just easier to just mute the toxic players and then go about your game... which will probably be a loss due to the toxicity on your team.

Hey, thought I'd drop two cents on the topic, probably from a different perspective since I'm in the higher portion of elos.

While Bronze shaming is definitely a thing, it isn't the right thing to do. It's bullying and it's just rude.

On the other side of the coin, however, it's also warranted in some cases.

Say we were in argument (not that I want to argue with you, you seem like a great guy,) and we didn't get along with each other about one aspect of the game. I feel like I'm ENTITLED to being able to say "I know more than you do," and instantly be right. It doesn't mean I will, because personally I'd argue intelligently and make a case for my argument, but there is a sense of entitlement in some cases nonetheless.

However, in the situation you described, it was wrong of them to harass you for something OUT OF YOUR CONTROL, in which case I'm pretty sure is report worthy.

Make no mistake, making fun of someone else's rank is wrong, but hear me out when I say that there is entitlement in one way or another when it comes to two different elos.

BeatzBoyFTW6/13/2015, 1:11:43 AM1 votes

I had the exact same problem like this a month ago, and was the one big reason why:

  1. I lost my 3rd promos (I win & 1 loss, and this high elo brat fks the 3rd one by being "Bronzie Toxic")
  2. I quit Rank Games big time.

I even suggested a solution to these type of behaviour in this thread, which is having their division demoted or deducting 60 LP for "Bronze Shaming", but apparently, I got downvoted by toxic high elos or someone who just reached Gold 5 like 2 minutes ago.
