Yorick needs a small change to his Q sustain, doesnt feel good on his juggernaut build

Pyrithegethon··20 votes·1,548 views

Q: Nice for laning phase to set up ghouls, get sheen proxs, do decent damage, and get OK sustain early. Come teamfights and after the laning phase, this ability feels kind of shitty not in terms of damage, but of sustain and cooldown for the amount of sustain it gives.

It has flat sustain that doubles when below 50% health. You can be a full AD Yorick or full tank and it still does the same heal. He, Nasus, and Mordekaiser are the only Juggernauts that their sustain is not based on their health. Yorick is worse because he can't increase his heal without spirit visage or the healing mastery. I honestly think his Q heal should be changed to actually fit his juggernaut build.

Might sound weird but he feels like the squishiest Juggernaut in game. Darius has missing health heals, Mundo has insane regen, Garen has a huge damage reduction active, Illaoi has spammable tentacles to hit people for sustain, Morde has his passive shield along with his W and R heals, Nasus has his lifesteal and his ult to give him health and tons of armor/mr, Skarner has a spammable shield based on max health, Udyr has a spammable shield and lifesteal, and Volibear has a huge heal once he gets low in health. Yorick only has his Q to sustain for a flat amount all game that is doubled when below 50% health. Ignoring items and masteries it will never heal over 190 health.

Edit: meant spammable shield for Udyr, not heal.

It cant be touched right now the way his kit is, right now although nobody knows he has extremely good dueling and possible 1v2, 1v3 scenarios. The only thing that's wrong with him is how useless he is when he has no minions or maiden up.

Yorick can 1v1 almost any champion without extreme burst because maiden and ghouls dots

Jeddy0172 votes

Maybe if he doesn't have any ghouls or the maiden.

Stephenizgod5 votes

Not a lot but the ones that can absolutely destroy him. I swear when I see the enemy pick Irelia against me I want to cry... she heals so much off maiden and mist walkers and can 1-shot mist walkers with her Q mid-late game. Plus W is useless she can either Q out or kill it in a matter of seconds.

Yasuo as well is cancer Fiora I am told craps on him pretty bad as well

Stephenizgod2 votes

Eh I shit all over Yasuo, he is pretty easy as long as you don't try to melee fight him. Just throw minions on him and never be in range of his AA's. Never fully commit to a fight without Maiden though because its a big part of Yoricks damage.

Fiora is farm lane. She comes near, you back off. You can't kill her and using Maiden is a waste as she will ignore it and come kill you or she will kill Maiden very quickly. You get near and she will just ult and destroy you. Let her push and freeze lane near turret, farm all game and take her turret when she roams.

A good Fiora is gonna shit on any other duelist, especially one as easily kitable as Yorick

Not when his ult is up. A very stacked Nasus or maybe a very skilled Fiora are the only things I can think of. Name another champion you think could win 1v1?

Stephenizgod4 votes

Irelia Darius (with flash)Olaf (I have yet to be able to 1v1 him, but I usually just W and walk away)Renekton Tryndamere (with ult up)

Berserknurple2 votes

Hahahahahaha no. Definitely not Olaf, Tryndamere or Irelia unless they are way ahead of you. Olaf and Trynd are easy to trap while you kite around Qing every two seconds. If you build a Randuin's like any normal person should against Tryndamere he won't be able to kill you during his ult time. Irelia is annoying because you can't trap her, but especially late game you're just flat out tankier and put out more sustained DPS than she does.

The Darius matchup is way closer than the others. The only reason I would say so is because you win if you have ultimate up, but Yorick's ult is on a way higher cooldown than Darius'. Assuming you're even in gold and xp, and you both have ult Yorick wins that though.

I don't know how you could possibly mention Renekton. If he hasn't killed you six times before level 6 he never will again without help.

Stephenizgod3 votes

I believe you are mistaking 1v1 for dominating. I didn't say they dominate Yorick, I said they are capable of 1v1ing him. Irelia absolutely pubstomps Yorick post-6, you can't kill her or even deal damage to her anymore as she 1 shot kills your MW and will erase Maiden within seconds. Olaf you can't stop and he can lifesteal off MW and Maiden, your W is barely useful against him. A good Renekton will make your life hell without jungle help, he can dash through your MW's and gets free double dash basically everytime you hit him with E, if he takes CotC he is impossible to kill unless he is bad. I don't know what kind of dumbass Tryndamere's you are fighting, but you can't cage him... He just spins through it and crits you for half your life. Yes you build Randuins, but you can't really kill him either and once he kills Maiden you are done for, thats why I specified his ult being up.

Darius is the easiest of all those champions I mentioned. You don't even need to go near him during laning phase, let him push, stack up graves then throw them at him all. He takes a ton of damage and can't really retaliate unless you run too close or if he has Flash and Stormraiders.

Berserknurple2 votes

No no, I mean 1v1. And you clearly don't understand how Yorick works because mist walkers always die to 1 auto or a single target ability or turret shot no matter what. That's just how they work. An enemy wasting 4 autos in a fight is huge if they choose to do that. Maiden has around 4000-5000 health late, Irelia doesn't erase her in seconds, and she's retarded if she focuses the maiden anyway. I'm not sure how you've been playing Yorick but you do far more damage to her than she does to you post 6. She absolutely cannot fight you with ult up. Without ult is obviously a different story.

Same story with Olaf, if you're not brain dead you are maxing W second, so he has to spend 4 autos getting out of an ability that has a 4 second cooldown at that point. The constant DPS olaf cannot life steal through. You're doing 10% max health magic damage with your autos while hitting him with 1000 physical damage Q, he will go down unless he is way ahead of you.

Renekton dominates lane early, but like I said he cannot fight you post 6 if he doesn't have a massive farm/exp lead.

As for Tryndamere, you obviously use W after he spins, I thought that was a given. And he isn't critting you for shit if you've built a Randuin's and any other armor/health item like you should be. If he's going full crit Trynd your Q will actually do half of his health.

Seriously though, most if not all of these champions can beat you without your ult up, but there's really no way they can when you do.

I think you're the one who is confusing the entirety of the game/laning phase with a pure 1v1.

Stephenizgod2 votes

No they don't always die in a single auto, it is people who CAN kill them in a single auto that cause yorick problems. I am pretty sure their HP scales with level and his max HP, as does the Maiden of the Mist. You clearly don't know how Irelia works, her Q's cooldown is reset when she kills an enemy. So since she can 1-shot Mist Walkers, it means in about half a second she will kill them all. Still you are correct, Yorick with his Ult beats Irelia, well that is until she ults... if you don't know what her ult does it deals damage and heals her for each enemy hit. It also happens to deal a f*ck ton of damage when she weaves Trinity Force boosted Auto-attacks in between each ult. She can and does kill the Maiden fairly quickly, and during this time she will stun you if you get near her for a whopping 2 seconds. She builds builds bruiser, which makes her tanky, and has more sustain and CC and mobility than Yorick. If she gets on him, she will kill him.

Well idk what the Olaf is building but he must not be very good if he dies before he gets 4 auto-attacks off... You only do 10% of their max hp every 2 seconds and you Q has a roughly 4-5 second cool down. That is enough time for him to break the wall. Specially if you are getting him low HP, plus he can just run away from the Maiden and throw q's at you.

I am so confused as to what your enemies are doing... Once Renekton hits 6 he is like 10x more threatening to you because you can't kill him while his ult is up. I don't know what else to say on that. The only reason Yorick can win this game is because Renekton falls off he doesn't get fed early. I never said these champions insta-win against Yorick, i just said they can 1v1 him.

Right of course, and when Tryndamere doesn't spin? What then? When he just runs right up to you because he is faster and slows you more than you slow him, and just starts critting on your face. Build Randuins? Well of course that is your only option because a stupid Tryndamere will spin at you when you have W up, but a smart one will just use his superior movement speed to walk up to you and hit you knowing that there isn't anything you can do until late game.

No you are the one who is misunderstanding here. The original comment was that there were a lot of champions that could 1v1 Yorick... No one said anything about winning the game or losing it... I never said they beat Yorick or stomp Yorick (except Irelia who btw has more than a 50% winrate again Yorick in Plat+ along with Jayce, Yasuo, and Teemo), I said they can 1v1 him and they can. That does not mean there is nothing he can do, Yorick is a fantastic split-pusher, one of the best. He is incredibly good at taking objectives like Baron and Dragon as well (I have taken baron at like 20:27). He also scales well into late game as long as he isn't starved for CS. So if he does lose the 1v1 he can just go to a different lane or wait for back up because he is good at 2v2's or 2v3's.

Berserknurple2 votes

No, they literally always die in a single auto or single spell, no matter the damage. Try it, that's how they're designed. It's been confirmed by Rioters, just not put into the ability description which is really stupid. They are extremely resistant to AOE damage (I think it's something like 70-80%), so things like an Irelia ult or even a Rumble ult won't usually kill them on its own.

And I'm sorry i actually got a bit confused with someone else I was replying to who was talking about Yorick late game, I'm basically referring to six item Yorick, which is why I was so confused you would even mention Renekton. There are plenty of people who can beat up Yorick early on.

Olaf and Tryndamere don't need to be trapped the entire time for you to kill them obviously, it just allows you to get off a ton of damage without them retaliating.

If the Olaf wastes 4 autos and then goes on to keep fighting you, he has just taken a ton of damage from ghouls, Maiden, and you. At best he's going to need to run away from the fight at that point. His W will have just about run out at that point, and then he can't lifesteal with a standard Olaf build. Even if He has 2.0 attack speed, which is extremely unlikely unless he is building glass cannon, it will take him 2 full seconds to get out.

You can sit and beat the shit out of Tryndamere and Olaf late game. We obviously are having different experiences here, so I'm not sure what to make of that, but if they build enough damage to actually do threatening burst damage, one Q will take most of a Trynds health. Maybe I've just been very ahead whenever I have had to 1v1 one, who knows.

I also want to clarify because I'm not sure that you know, but the main purpose of Randuin's is not its active. It reduces Crit Damage, and slows the attack speed of attackers, and has more armor than any other health + armor item. Without even using the active. Simply having Tabi + Randuin's and the classic ZZ'rot will negate almost 3/4 of Trynd's Damage. Same with Yasuo, Jhin, or Ashe especially. Any time you are playing against a crit-building auto attacker, ALWAYS build Randuins. Then you don't need to kite much, you just beat them to death and they can't do anything about it.

Stephenizgod2 votes

I have seen them survive more than 1 auto though. If you could find where this Rioter confirmed this, that would be awesome. I am having a totally different experience.

Yep not many people can duel Yorick late game once he has 6 items, he is just too damn tanky. The question was purely who can 1v1 him, and during laning phase the champions I mentioned are more than capable of 1v1ing him at certain points in the game (Irelia can duel and kill him at all stages of the game due to her true damage and sustain).

I don't know what rank you are, but I am not just talking about my own experiences here. I am talking about what I have seen in the many many Yorick games I have played. If you just look at the champions strengths and weaknesses you can tell who will be able to 1v1 Yorick and who can't. Tryndamere has all the tools to get on top of Yorick easily. You literally can do nothing about it other than be no where near him. A good Tryndamere will not get caged by your W ever, unless you catch them off guard. You are seriously underestimating Olafs, tankiness. I am not sure if you have ever fought a good one or not, but he can be incredibly annoying to fight as Yorick. If we are talking 6 items late game, then sure nothing either of you can do about the other but you have better pushing strength. During laning phase, you can't kill him unless he stands there and lets you. Olaf doesn't need to build damage, he can build the exact same build as Yorick.

I know what Randuin's does lol but it only reduces it by 10%, 10% of a 400 damage crit is 40, you are still taking 560 damage before resistances from 1 auto. It is super helpful, but it is not suddenly going to make the Tryndamere useless. The main reason he can kill you is because with his Ult, you can't kill him but he can kill you. Your only choice is to back-off and wait for his ult to be down. Once his ult is down, he is also going to back off. He just 1v1'd you successfully. Doesn't always need to end in a kill, it just means he is capable of threatening you.

You have seen wrong.

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/nE3bmJUI-are-yorick-ghouls-supposed-to-die-from-1-auto-attack-late-game

There is the link to where it is confirmed by Riot as intentional.

I was gold 3 last season so not exactly the highest elo ever, but the only champ I play more than Yorick is Sion. I played old Yorick a lot and I've played new Yorick since he came out.

Why are you not fighting Tryndamere? Why are you letting him run you down like a dog? You're a juggernaut, act like one. It's like Camille, yeah she can stay on you for however long she wants, but it doesn't matter because you're tankier and do more damage.

He will almost die, ult, and then actually die if he tries to fight you under your ult before he kills you. Do you just plain not build tank items? And the key word you are missing there is BEFORE resistances. Factor in all the armor you should have by then (somewhere between 200-300) ninja tabi auto reduction, plus you'll have around 4000 health. Less if you build Sterak's or Zz rot, but he definitely can't kill you in time if you have Steraks.

Yeah he's not going to kill you in the 5 seconds of undying rage he has, especially if you simply walk in and out of your W while healing off of him with Q. If you manage to trap him it's even better.

You do more damage than Olaf late game. Especially to him, because You're doing mixed damage and he's doing purely physical with some true damage mixed in. You're doing percent max HP and he isn't. You have higher base AD and higher health than he does. He has faster attack speed plus lifesteal during W, but your attack speed and sustain is better otherwise. You have 4 ghouls with 200-300 AD (1200ish AD) hitting him while the Maiden hits from afar. If both champs are even, and skill is even, Yorick will win that 1v1 with ult up every time.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Ok I see, it is Auto-attacks that 1 shot them, says nothing about spells though. I assumed that Auto-attack resets could 1 shot them, but I suppose what I have been witnessing is people using abilities on them.

Again I have stated it multiple times, I am not talking about late game 6 item Yorick... I am talking about Laning Phase 1v1. All of your facts keep coming down to you have like late game stats, I am not talking about late game Yorick at all. It is true, Yorick is hard to duel 1v1 late game, but during laning phase when he only has 2-3 items, he can be 1v1'd by champions like Olaf and Tryndamere who are naturally tankier, have more sustain, and mobility. Maiden is really squishy until late game when you have a ton of HP, before then she has very little health and no resistances.

You keep mentioning these perfect ideal situations, no shit Yorick will win a situation that is 100% ideal and advantageous for him, but its not easy to put yourself in that situation against these champions.

I will just state it here in bold letters so we can stop going in circles with useless information: Late game Yorick is impossible to duel 1v1. During laning phase however, he struggles against champions that have more mobility, sustain, and tankiness. This is because Yorick is a late game monster.

Berserknurple1 votes

Ok perfect we actually completely agree then lol. I was still talking about the late game pure 1v1 scenario. Olaf and Trynd and Irelia certainly are struggles earlier on.

As far as the ghouls, as long as it is a single target spell it will kill them instantly, but honestly that's great because if they're using a single target spell on a ghoul they're completely retarded.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Yep, a 1v1 late game is completely dependent on outside influences, how fed each player is, how much farm they have, etc. A Laning Phase 1v1 is dependent on who is better in a 1v1 (at least in top lane where the jungler rarely ganks) and thems champs I mentioned, without outside influence, have an pretty good shot at successfully 1v1ing Yorick. Glad we could finally clear it up ;)

I honest to god did not know they intentionally died in 1 hit except to AoE's. I just thought they were squishy, I agree it is still incredibly helpful for them to waste that amount of attacks not on me. I was never really complaining about it, because they would be OP otherwise. Its just generally champions that can very quickly kill his ghouls give Yorick a tough time because it doesn't give him enough time to do much.

Berserknurple1 votes

Also the -10% is Critical Strike damage, meaning 10% off of the entire Crit strike, not just the bonus portion that is added to your regular AD. It's more like a crit that would do 700 total now does 640, now with the tabi reduction it is now 546, now with a conservative estimate of 200 armor (you should have more than that) which reduces physical damage by 66%, you end up with a crit that should have done 700 now doing 180 damage.

Yorick Q heals for at least that much if you're below 50% hp, more if you have SV and/or any lifesteal.

Orangesilk9 votes

Well, yeah, he's a terrible teamfighter, that was the whole point of his rework.

He's scary when splitpushing though, impossible to 1v1, eats towers quickly when left alone.

He's supposed to fall off late game except for splitpushing, that's his drawback and is intended. If his Q heal scales he'll need to be weaker early in some way to balance it out.

He scales way harder than the other juggernauts. He's not as good in team fights but six item Yorick is impossible to duel.

Stephenizgod2 votes

Wait what? I am pretty sure Yorick is one of the only Juggernauts who scales well into late game? I never seem to fall off, the only times I don't stomp are when I get stomped by jungler camping me (or against Irelia).

Stephenizgod2 votes

Yea that is why I like taking Warlord's Bloodlust on him, not only do his Mist Walkers and Maiden proc it, but it also turns him into a sustain god along with Death's Dance.

Ralanr1 votes

Kinda wondered why his healing was flat. I guess it was to prevent it being abusive in lane because it's tied to his summoning tool.

Berserknurple2 votes

They mentioned it in q and a, it used to be percent missing health like Illaoi, but it made him extremely impossible to kill. That's why it was moved to flat.

Oleandervine1 votes

I would like to see his heal get some kind of scaling. If it was tied to HP or AD, it would benefit him because he'd be torn between building one or the other for his minions.

Hello I am Bird1 votes

Legacy Hydralpha2 votes

Yeah, you mostly see it when he has his army of spooks doing damage to you.

On, and when he Qs. That hurts.

6Sfool1 votes

Hmm, I never really noticed that, since most of my sustain comes from warlords anyway. I feel like he's meant to be only a juggernaut, so I wouldn't mind the change (as long as it didn't hurt his early game healing).

Berserknurple1 votes

You need spell vamp/lifesteal of some kind on Yorick. A death's dance, or a maw. You should be taking the vampirism talent every time, and Warlord's is actually really good on him as well. Yorick has extremely high sustained DPS when he ults which can heal him a shit load.

Yorick would be absurdly broken if he healed like that. He can 1v1 demolish any of the other juggernauts late game as long as he has ult, I can't even imagine if he healed more.

Off Meta Evan1 votes

well this is why i like to pick up item 3812 on him to help with his healing. i think they should reduce the CD on his Q to something like 3 seconds at 40% cdr, cause its very easy to stack CDR on him, either that or make the healing scale off of bonus ad like 15% bonus ad, something like that.

Meep Man1 votes

Yorick isn't in need of a good, Juggernaut heal to be who he is as a Juggernaut. He is the Split Push Juggernaut, so adding sustain to him would just make him extremely difficult to play against and an overall headache. Plus, Yorick is in need of no buffs right now, being decent overall. If he needs anything, it is to make his Passive Ghouls not die in one hit to Runnan's bolts and to make his ghouls MAYBE not pause for so long after jumping through the E. Sometimes the E jump actually slows down ghouls due to the animation.
