Buff idea to Nunu R, Galio R, Fiddlesticks R, and Karthus R

Pyrithegethon··185 votes·14,928 views

While they are channeling instead of all the mana being drained on cast it drains over the duration of the channel.

How is this a buff you might ask? When these champs get their ults interrupted it feels like absolute shit as they just spent a ton of mana for almost nothing.

Example of how it would work: Karthus channels his ult over 3.5 seconds. The mana cost is 150 and is drained during the channel duration meaning if he gets interrupted he doesnt lose the entire mana cost from his pool.

Edit: You would need the full amount of mana required for the spell to cast it.

I could get behind this idea for Nunu/Galio as they are meant to channel in the middle of teams, but not Fidd or Karthus. Those two should be punished for poor positioning when deciding to ult. Especially Karthus- he doesn't have to be anywhere close to the enemy team for his ult to be effective, and already gets a mana-free ult if he dies in a fight with it up.

This. If Karth and Fid get interrupted, then they positioned badly.

I think that the draining mana could be interesting, but I don't know if that would be right for buffing these champs. Personally, I think if we were looking to buff these champs, then looking outside of their ult Mana costs would bring more to the table (as mana isn't really a huge pain point for these channeling champs anyway, as they usually use ult early in a fight or build mana). I would also argue that Nunu and Galio get value out of their ults even if they get interrupted. They both still get the initial disruption and damage.

If mana is out the door how does reducing Karthus R cool down for late game sound?

God no please. It's an undodgeable spell that will half health carries late game.

What's the harm in a QOL change for Galio and nunu though? I suspect this wouldn't be a huge buff anyways to push them into OP. Ya feel me?

It's not a QOL change, it's a legitimate buff.

I guess it is a buff, but its more QOL than gameplay buff, its not like you're making them uninterruptable. its a minor buff that allows you to keep some of your mana if you get interrupted.

No, its more of a gameplay buff because it isn't in any way a QOL change. A QOL change has no direct impact on actual gameplay, this would directly change when and how your mana is spent when using your ultimate. An example of a QOL change is your teammates can see if your summoner spells are up or not.

They called Azir's Shurima shuffle a QOL change. All they did was allow you to Q and E at the same time and now this whole new mechanic has become core to his kit.

As a former galio player, mana control has always been a big issue with him, it seems like it would be a QoL change, but it would be conserving 30%-60% of the cost of it, generally allowing a second q immediately after. I just want a galio buff of any sort :D

Galio doesn't need buffs. He's outrageously strong, just not played.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Oh he's strong, but could use a little better mana management.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Honestly the change Galio needs to tide him over for a rework of some sort (probably on the scale of the MYMU/Marksman etc.) is to just get rid of his passive and give his abilities MR scaling since there is really no reason for him to have that passive. It's like if we removed Taric's passive and made him gain AP for getting Armor while no longer having any Armor scaling.

The passive feels like just straight up stats the can be just thrown into the base kit and open up room for an actual passive. Also, it's not like Galio's kit has the risk of being overloaded unless we give him a gap closer since as it is his kit has no idea what it wants to be since he CAN burst and he CAN tank, but he is just so subpar at both (no real CC if he is a tank and can kind of just be ignored and is super squishy if he goes AP while also running into big mana problems if he is trying to poke people with his eye blasts).

LatetotheRace1 votes

What needs to happen is halve the AP scaling on the W heal, and make it do %max health healing too. No one builds glass cannon galio anyway. It could even me % missing health.

Nunu is desperately in need of a buff. He's been one of the lowest performing champions in every lane for months now. The E change on the PBE is quite honestly, just sad. It is situationally a nerf and the changes are probably more bad than good over all. The best thing Nunu could do lategame was buff the ADC for 12 seconds.

Could you keep the lowered cooldown and mana cost and get rid of the duration nerf? Even with a pure buff I doubt he'd even scrape together a 50% winrate. It'd be cool to be able to buff multiple allies at once. It's an interesting niche but the buff is so small it wouldn't be overpowered at all.

New strategy where you have your premade play karthus in a different game.

CeexSett8 votes

Get 5 friends to play Karthus in 5 different games and have them ult at the same time. Easy game.

Serpents Embrace1 votes

I assume that since both teams in the related games aren't Karthus' team - the ult would affect all 10 players.

Spoofghoul6 votes

so everyone dies basically

and 5 karthus get ultra fed with like idk 96 assists/kills

lol Please

Make it so if Karthus ults then it will effect everyone on the entire server. I don't see anything going wrong with that idea.

Imagine if someone could get a countdown going to channel an ult, and then you lag out because of all the ult animations going off on you (not to mention instantly die [including AFKS])

if you don't have enough mana to fulfill the overall mana requirement, what happens? ie) Ult costs 100 mana but you only have 50 (and won't regen in time). What if Fiddles has 150 mana, he ults + uses silence, and now he no longer has enough mana to sustain the full duration of the ult. Would his ult just stop then? None of these abilities are toggles, so it wouldn't make sense. Besides, you're taking a risk to make a big play. Getting interrupted was a mistake on your part.

Maybe their ults could use buffs, but I don't agree with this one.

Noblewind5 votes

If you didn't have the mana for the full cost before beginning to use the ability, you wouldn't be able to cast it. It's the exact same as before, except the mana cost of the ability spreads out evenly over time throughout the channel duration, rather than losing everything at the start.

Plant ßitch2 votes

It's not talking about when Fidd is dealing the damage. It's referring to the channel before his AoE takes effect when he is unable to do anything else. By the time the AoE takes effect, his full mana cost for his ult will have been used. It would obviously require you to have all the mana to begin with, but drain it over the duration of the channel before execution. It would only really make a difference if Fidd was hard cc'ed before finishing his channel. It would be rather useful though if you were nearly out of mana and the lack of full mana cost when cc'ed allowed you to Q and escape from the potential threat of your attacker.

Fantom Fishstick2 votes

as a former galio player, I see where you're coming from, especially if you don't build mana. His ult burns WAY too much mana for his base mana pool to be wasted like that. if you get stunned out of it by like a renekton... you wasted so much for next to no damage. Galio love rito plez

Tentacle Love1 votes

The best part is, enemy champions would be tempted to wait and interrupt the channel closer to its finish, so that they get more out of it.

bill841 votes

Well if it's Galio or nunu they will take more damage that way, and if you get caught by galio ult and dont cancel it immedietly, you won't cancel it at all unless you are braum.
