Maybe Unpopular Opinion: I wish Redemption was gone

Gonna keep this short and simple.

If the other team has Redemption and you don't, you're way more likely to lose. I don't like how it feels like it's a requirement to have.

Yes. Somehow introducing new support items made build variety even weaker. Gold gen item, sightstone, boots, and Redemption/Locket are pretty much a must so that's 80% of your slots already chosen.

Yes. Somehow introducing new support items made build variety even weaker.

That's because the new items don't suck... but all the old ones still do. Which part is the real problem here?

Good unselfish items existing is good for the game. Only having a very small number of unselfish items actually be good is what crushes build variety.

Although I also wonder how much of the problem is Redemption/Locket having visible impact actives, while things like Grail, Censer, Knight's Vow and Zeke's are invisible power buffs. They may not actually be weak as much as they are underappreciated, even by the players using them. This is probably something that Riot is going to have to look at through winrate statistics. Players seek optimal behavior but they aren't necessarily perfect at it, even at the highest levels.

Grail and Censer don't add a new spell, but they make your existing spells better (if you have the right kind of kit to be building them at all).

One possible solution is to double down on the distinction between these by improving the stats of support items other than Redemption/Locket, so they provide power more consistently/on every spellcast rather than one big burst of power every 2 minutes. Then you might get used to treating an active as a long-term resource like some ults or summoners, where forcing out the item CD is a win on its own that can be played toward/around. (Think of Zhonya's, or even more so, GA.)

Because under that plan, a person who built Redemption but now has it on CD would be weaker than one who built Censer and can use it any time, it puts them under pressure to get a high-value use out of the active.

Gold item and sightstone are one slot, if you want them to be.

It's simple:

Riot thought that Locket was pushing out support build variety. To fix this, they made another Locket while buffing the power of Locket's active while making it generally more viable with armor.

Redemption gives support-players play making potential. I mean if you make the perfect redemption saving your mate at 1 hp that is awesome. And redemption gives also good defensive stats making viable on almost every support. I buy redemption even on Thresh

Unpopular opinion, follows it up with popular opinion.

unpopular opinions I don't like locket or redemption or soraka

at least soraka has an offensive spell on which her healing relies on,unlike Janna whose entire kit is about siting behind an adc.

I don't think redemption should be nerfed, but I think other support items should be buffed so that you have other options that can be equally good, or depending on champion and situation, better than redemption.

1.why dont support items stack? I have no problem with an AOE 300 hp shield as long as it does not come for a passive of a single item. 2. this item 3800 used to be a support item
3.item 3109 i have seen more toplaners build this 4.item 3504 this is (in my opinion) the best support item in the game (not just because i main adc)

Knight's Vow is fine imo. the others tho definitely need buffs. Righteous Glory is fine imo to, it just needs a more affordable recipe.

Locket is way worse since it's instant. You can screw up with Redemption but it's way harder to fudge your Locket active.

You'd be surprised, lots of people just don't have the reaction times to use it properly.

Locket requires you be within proximity of the person , has a decay factor to the shield and thus requires better timing. Because it is a shield it also just has far less uses and applications. Redemption's stat;line is also simply more appealing.

You can use redemption to help take baron, snipe people with the damage to secure a kill, clear minions, stop recalls, or even just to top your team off., and the semi global range and the fact that you can use it while dead make it far more flexible.

What if there where a few supportitems, that are focused on teamfights with big actives, but the actives dont stack, so you have to choose the best for each team

KoggyStyle

tbh every role should be getting it, it deals true damage and heals you, it gives a hp boost, hp regen, mana regen, CDR.... whats not to love?

offensive stats, other unique abilities you'd miss out (eg Lich Bane), missing/delaying power spikes, tying most of your damage to a long cooldown active.

There's quite a lot that makes it unappealing for other roles
