Unbanning the "pacifist" ascension players was a mistake

Rexxiee··11 votes·1,355 views

So actively trying to ruin other players experience is perfectly acceptable now Riot? i guess inting is alright too then.

They were knowingly abusing some flaws in the game mode and playing in a way where they literally force their opponents to surrender after holding them hostages for 30min or even over 1h, the 14 day ban was more than deserved.

If this isnt toxic then i guess we are all fine to go and do the same thing and ruin games for other ppl right?

And before anyone says im salty because someone did this to me, no because i dont play those thrash temporary game modes.

Remember kids, it's okay to make a game literally unplayable if you're doing it under the pretense of "new strategy"

And people will white knight you for it when you get a deserved punishment

Last I'd heard, people had found ways to counter the strategy. They'd run on top of the tanks, taking damage from the Cinders until they died, load up on anti-tank items, then turn the game on their favor. Additionally, champions like Pantheon, Twisted Fate, and Tahm Kench could get back to fountain using their ultimates, breaking the strategy.

Salron1 votes

Yeah but some of that only works if you go into the match expecting the strat And past a certain point of the game most champs outregen the cinder damage

There is actually no real grounds for banning them. That's like banning Teemo Heimerdinger and Shaco players for being bush-pussies in ARAM, which is also them trying to actively ruin other players experiences. To bad they didn't go to 90 minutes because that's the cut-off line for matches (something around there).

implyng people that were intentionally ruining games were actually being punished.

riot couldnt give a rats ass honestly

They did get 14 day banned, which was the correct way to handle this but because of some circlejerk on reddit they literally reversed it, lmao.

this was abusing ascension.

ive seen this shit happen hundreds of times in normal/ranked games without punishment

the only got banned because of reddit to begin with.

if it wasnt so popular riot wouldnt even bother with it.

Yeah i know reddit is basically tribunal at this point.

Lets be honest, Riot forced this mode down our throats enough times that people got bored of it and figured out this strat.

Maybe now we'll see Ascension in few rotations.

It is technically a strategy and they were trying to win.

The point to League is to win the game no matter the circumstances.

I'm confused what happens in this situation?

They just keep the other team from getting points while they dont get points themselfes, so the game is in a perpetual stalemate (since the other team cant recall to buy items either to just kill them) until the other team eventually gets tired of the bullshit and FF's.

I'm pretty sure hes talking about this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2HrOCVQuDg

Essentially you put the opponents outside the map, and since most of the enemies don't have globals to teleport back into the map, they are stuck there for the rest of the game LMK if this is wrong

Thanks for the info I didn't realize this XD

Wrong. One team would pick all tanks, and hand the enemy team the Ascension buff. The tank team would never kill the other team. Because the other team couldn't die they couldn't buy items. Meanwhile the tanks are building all tank items so they eventually can't be killed. In addition they buy Bami's Cinder/Sunfire in order to prevent the other team from taking relics.

Eventually the other team tilts to the point of surrender giving the tank team the win.

There is at least 1 major flaw in this though. Matches have a maximum amount of time before it is forcefully ended. People have found this time limit in custom matches while seeing how many stacks infinite stacking champion can get to (Veigar's AP, Sion's HP, etc etc).

The 2nd flaw would be to sit on top of the enemy team's Cinder, but they buy Swiftness boots so you can't keep up with them.

The reason they were unbanned is because it wasn't explicitly stated in the behaviour rules that the strategy is banworthy in ascension.

Yes, what they did was stupid and ruined the game for a lot of players, but they were still "trying to win" and not "trying to die to the enemy team" as inting implies. They were building so as to not die and playing pacifist by not killing the enemy team.

Since Ascension won't be back for a while since they need to tweak it, there's no way they can abuse it anymore.

No they weren't trying to win. They were trolling and trying to get the other team to get bored and forfeit.

They were only pleased when the battle of wills led to their victory. Try to look at it impartially, as Riot did.

Let's say, hypothetically, that they make a new rule that says making a thread on the League boards disputing a ban decision can get you banned.

This thread is seen by a bot that automatically enforces forum rules and you are banned.

Since Riot sees that you made the thread before the rule was put in place, you are unbanned.

Your analogy couldnt be any worse, lmao.

Yrzen2 votes

Why?

You expect Riot to ban a bunch of people who didn't break any rules. Even if it was made the rules, you can't ban them for it unless they keep doing it after the rules are made. I'm simply demonstrating how unfair your demand to ban them is: you're asking for an ex post facto rule, but when an ex post facto rule is applied to you creating this thread, it "couldn't be any worse" of an analogy. Why the hell is that?

They did break a rule. They were trolling and trying to get the other team to eventually get bored and forfeit, not trying to win.

First of all, stop saying someone is trolling when they play differently. Evidently, it's a very effective strategy. It's not trolling when someone does something off-meta. (Mind you, this strategy would technically qualify as the ascension meta) Second of all, they started capturing shrines, but the other team surrendered before they got enough points to win. Finally, forcing the enemy team to forfeit isn't against the rules if they aren't cyber bullying in all chat or something to that effect. Maybe it should be, but it's not.

Take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/VfBH4Ly3BtY?t=7m35s I ask you, is the Draven in question trolling for going to the enemy fountain to start spawn-killing them before the first inner tower has even been taken down? let's say, hypothetically, him and Thresh were the only people on their team, so he couldn't get allies to take out the turrets. Would it be trolling for him to make the decision to focus on limiting his opponent's ability to fight back?

Technically not trolling if they were trying to win.

If something similar happened on SR, people would be screaming for their heads on a pike. But most of them probably don't care about let alone play ascension.

Suspension was stupid, but that's typical when "justice" and "punishment" is left up to anonymous throngs of Hillaryfogs and BernieBros..

A warning -- "HEY THAT WAS KINDA FUNNY, BUT YOU ARE HEREBY ON NOTICE NOT TO DO IT AGAIN" -- would have been better. But, again, "SUSPEND FIRST TO MOLLY SHRIEKING PERMA-VIRIGINS THEN UNBAN WHEN THE ADULTS CALL YOU OUT ON YOUR SH!T" is typical behavior in this industry.

Naching1 votes

They must be banned... That's a exploit In all the games i played this means "ban"... Riot still reading to much the cries.

Quepha1 votes

They didn't abuse any bugs They followed all the rules of the game This was a valid strategy. Maybe not a fun one but that's a problem with the game's ruleset, not the players who discovered it. No reason to ban them
