Riot needs to release a video to show how "great" support is

Buffing support items hasn't worked. Shoving weaker mages into the role hasn't worked. Autofill hasn't worked. People still don't want to queue for it. Autofill is especially bad, because then we get player who are both angry they didn't get their intended role and inexperienced with support.

What we need is to show the community that, despite the fact this is an entirely combat-based game where the word BATTLE is literally in the genre's title, the role where you don't get to do the battling for yourself is fun.

You know, barring any changes that would actually make the role fun for more than 5% of players.

its just not that fun tho. Its fun to a small niche of players, but most of us really hate playing support. i do especially because if 4 other people in my team feed like asshats, i cant carry, as opposed to me playing jungle or top.

I agree autofill is a bad idea below platinum. People who are inexperienced get stuck in roles, and either whine all game or trade the role to a friendly teammate. Its always the promos that i get the autofilled teammates item 3070 Amumu

Yeah, I tried making a more sensical thread to talk about how there's actually a problem with support not being fun, but it got 3 downvotes from support mains who think it's the ENTIRE community that's wrong rather than the role.

But to be fair, rank doesn't actually have anything to do with whether or not autofill is okay. There are plenty of Diamond 1-tricks are are actually pretty bad players if they're given a different role or champion.

Its not a special problem for this game, its how it goes for all games. Supportive roles are the least played.

Other games do have aspects that allow supports to still be active in the combat and feel like they're doing something though. Some games fix this by having one player control the entire party, so that your support is just a part of the whole. Others, like Warframe, allow you to still carry powerful weapons as a support.

But we're not talking about other games. We need to focus on what THIS game can do to fix the problem, because it matters much more in this game than some others.

This definitely won't be easy and probably won't be popular.

But maybe Rito should look into changing the meta where it's at least viable to NOT have support. It has been forced on us since the early days of the game and has ALWAYS been unpopular. It might be time to take the message and stop forcing it on us.

That's the point I'm trying to make. I'm being sarcastic when I say it's great.

If you like a supportive role, sure, it's fun. But the overwhelming majority of popular video games in general thrive from the fact you don't play as a healing sidekick. Something needs to be changed so that players don't need a support.

They cant do that, because the game is not offering enough farm for 5 people. The only reason supports became a thing in DotA back then was because there were only 4 ways of income (top lane, mid lane, Bot lane, neutral camps) but 5 players, so one had to do without if they wanted the other 4 as strong as possible.

i play support roles in almost every rpg i play and they are fun and nessacary but in league i fuckin dispise support. Unless im playing with a group of friends whom know how to play. It just sucks being a guy who brings nearly nothing but utility whwn your team counldn't carry a pizza home from domino's. I actually enjoy being able to bring cc and buffing others but unless your winning that shit is beyond useless. It is unfun to lane with a adc that overchases or just flat out cant cs.Ive begun to hate the entire bot lane cause ur forced to lane with a partner that useally is garbage. So me,and everyone else would rather play a carry role or just be in a solo lane where you cant blame anyone but yourself. Spliting the jungle would be more fun at this point than playing double bot lane. Another thing that i hate is that you cant even practice the role effectivly with queing for a pvp match, unlike anyother role where u can use the practice tool or even a custom game. Bots game have no use for warding which is a major issue for practicing support.

Wait what? Support is a non stop battle. Unlike other roles you are not concerned with last hitting. You are constantly battling both your opponents and your adc's inflated ego. It's kinda great.

Yes, to you. But the overwhelming majority disagrees. The role simply isn't fun for most people because most people signed up for an online battle arena to, you know, battle.
