Hypothesis: Following the Meta is Dangerous
I am beginning to believe that simply copying and rehashing whatever Diamond+ players use for their success is a fatal flaw for other players. Because it's been done, it's what is expected, and people know how to react to it in many cases. If they don't then they should learn or remain where they are until they do.
The meta doesn't exist because it stabilizes the game, it exists because of players adapting to changes to the game and creating new ways to obtain victory. By blindly following it, we accomplish nothing for ourselves except hop onto the late bus for a short and unsatisfying ride.
Using the meta as a template to learn is fine, but it is only a template. We should be able to decide for ourselves what works according too our own experiences at our present levels of play and past experiences. We should improve upon it in order to move ahead. If something fails more than once than it isn't our allies, it is us. Allies are a variable. The only constant over which we have control is ourselves.
If success can be repeated through one method then that method can be used for the purpose of consistency, but the meta shifts and therein lies additional inconsistency. It is also through additional experimentation that determines if the positive result can be repeated or if the result was merely the result of happy circumstance.
It is us who must make changes along with the meta rather than rely on others to decide for us what works and what doesn't. By allowing others to draw out the battle plan that has already been executed we make ourselves vulnerable to certain counter attacks by repeating past success, dooming ourselves to eventual failure.
