Is anyone having trouble dealing with Xin Zhao?

AquariusGine··38 votes·6,026 views

Whenever I get a Xin Zhao on my team, even if we are really far behind he can singlehandedly turn the game around. When he's on the enemy team, I cannot comprehend his insane insane damage.

Might be my low elo.. am I right or wrong?

Sated Devourer.

Don't forget how it broke Aatrox Fiora....

You know what, fuck it, any champ that had a stacking on hit mechanic, or built BORK while jungling got just ridiculous to deal with because of sated devourer.

The problem is his 175 range (makes escaping him incredibly hard) + dash/slow + that his three talon strike reduces the CD of the dash by 3 seconds allowing him to jump back on you in 4. And I'm diamond IV on my main so no it is not your low elo.

I've noticed him a lot lately as well, every time regardless of what team he's on he always gets crazy fed, lol.

I have played quite a few Xin Zhao games and I can tell you if there's one thing Xin CANT do is turn a game around. Of all (my) junglers he is most heavily influenced by a losing team; if the team loses their lanes early, Xin can get turned on rly easily and killed in his jungle.

I think what you're mostly seeing is because IF a Xin is ahead of you/fed he can be very oppressive and can indeed kill you very fast, for some reason people dont expect Xin to do alot of damage (maybe bc he's not as common as lee for example). Thing is** he is very vulnerable to burst and cc.**

He is very strong in the early game and can get him or his teammates fed, however if the enemy team gets back in it just a little or has the right types of champions they can easily shut him down. Once you're beefy enough to whitstand his combo (E + 3xQ) or have enough CC and burst to kill him before he can get his Q's off on you its over.

Ive had mixed results lately with AP + Sated Xin Zhao, its really fun and somewhat viable. You can snowball ur team early with base damages between lvl 2-5 (just like normal Xin), but with AP xin and a little feed and sated you're unkillable and ALOT of fun. However he struggles very hard in a losing team or vs burst + CC even more than regular Xin. The early game is fine, so is the later game once u get Sated + Nashor + Rabadon (u can tank turrets w/o minions), the mid game is a struggle tho if u dont secure some dragons for a fast Sated and have a losing mid lane.

In general Early game snowball champions are stronger in Lower ELO (mine, im gold V) because people tend to keep playing the same even if theyre behind or when they know theyre vulnerable to ganks LeeSin Nidalee Elise and ofcourse ourXinZhao

MohawkBird2 votes

He might not be able to turn a game around, but he surely can make the game with a few ganks. His ganks are so easy to pull off and his early game damage is ridiculous.

Fluppets3 votes

yeah but the OP is talking about being able to turn a game around, which i can say from first hand experience isnt the case. He can point the game in the right direction from the get-go thats true. But Elise or Nidalee and (with a little more skill required) Lee Sin can do that even better.

MohawkBird2 votes

A little arguable on which can do it better simply because all of the champions you listed require skillshots in their ganks to be effective. Xin just presses 3 buttons and insta dashes and knocks you up with ridiculous attack speed for his kill.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Im assuming Op has a lot of afk jglers farming devourers instead of ganking. Xin is supposed to be "turning" the game around with his strong OP dmg, whether through invades to stack devourers really fast, or ganking to secure your lanes to win. YOu should be ganking a shit ton early, making your team fed. YOu fall off lategame and will die. The reason this player is winning/losing to xin's is becasue of the teams being fed not xin.

diamondlight2 votes

Part of it I think is that while Xin may not always secure the kill in early lane pressure, he can certainly do enough damage and pressure to knock laners out of lane and go back to farming. This helps each laner considerably.

Have you ever tried zhonyas on regular sated xin? No other AP items, just sated, maybe a bork, and tank to round it out. You still do great damage, have great sustain, and if you ever get hard focused, you go into stasis then jump on someone again to clean up the fight.

Fluppets1 votes

Hm, that doesnt sound too bad, it's an interesting twist and im definitely going to try that out.

Im thinking you could go heavy on early-dmg runes and masteries (instead of AP) and just gank continiously until you get Sated, then go full tank and try to get Zhonya's before teamfights happen.

Thinking about it Zhonya synergises extremely well with his kit!

Few things to note: You wont have enough damage without AS items and stacked AP to really carry and duel like you would with AP xin and without a full AP item set and Rabadon you wont heal enough to tank turrets.

I should do some theorycrafting in choosing between Bork and nashor's tooth, which does most dmg and which heals most, probably too many variables tho...

something like this?

His winrate is one of the highest, and it would be even higher if Xin Zhao players didn't have Superman Syndrome and go 1v5 all the time.

in his lore he fought like 300 ppl @ once

Arcane Azmadi2 votes

Actually he was supposed to do so, but the Demacians sprung him from Noxian prison before it could happen.

kJs2 votes

Yes but that's only one time. Xin Zhao was used as a gladiator in the arena. His opponents would gradually increase in number everytime he won a challenge/a match. So even if he was rescued from 300-500 opponents he still would have fought at least more than 150 to 250 per match.

Also did you know Alistar fought/imprisoned in the same arena the same style? :D

AP Alistar vs AD XinZhao? Who wins?

PixTron4 votes

Actually, you kinda are right.

He has High Damage, High AS, High mobility, and high and quite a bit of CC for a Melee Fighter.

This has been a huge problem since he was released, and has only been slightly nerfed in some spots, but he probably should get a rework.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

his mobility is questionable though, it requires an enemy minion (also assuming you didn't use it to engage)

TroyTheUnconquer2 votes

i'm and avid Xin player, his mobility is crap but his engage is awesome

kJs2 votes

Yeah. Not High mobility but High Engage.

They could turn his dash into a skillshot with high base cooldown. The cooldown is reduced down to the same now if it hits a target maybe more cooldown reduction if it hits a champion instead of a minion/monster. Could be AoE as well (prioritises - champions > Champion created champions > Buff Monsters > Lesser Monsters > Champion Created minions > Minions)

I know I know, "TURN EVERYTHING INTO SKILLSHOTS HUR DUR." But it's a valid idea for a lot of mindless features like that in League.

Jungkong still sort of works.

Some of these you probably already if you've played him a lot before.

He's got sub-par gank until level 6 and most other junglers 1v1 him better. Others are simply tanks at lvl 1 and that Wukong's can't kill. i.e. XinZhao JarvanIV Warwick LeeSin RekSai Ekko Pantheon Udyr

Everyone of these have really good advantages over Wukong. Most have abilities to get themselves through walls and out of your jungle if things get awry for them. Pantheon simply counters wukong almost 99% because of his passive. Some have insane sustain and retains that sustain advantage well past lvl 6. Lee Sin is just a hard counter straight up. Unless you can block his Q with your W and get out ASAP. Even then a smart Lee Sin knows this and will use the ward hopping technique to get close to you rendering your W invisbility and close nearly useless because he'll just follow up with E AoE true sight. Rek'Sai doesn't care if you go invisible she will find you and kill you - most of the time.

But you can still pick him if you had a team comp in mind. His ult is all worth it as you may know with your experience. However, if he gets counterjungled/invaded during his clears by any one of the mentioned champions above your laners are going to have to make do without a decent ganker until you hit 6. The jungle hits so much harder now and Wukong can't waste a single ability or AA in early clears.

But once he gets a couple of kills (no deaths) and decent cs he can go as glass cannon as he can when he's in lane = delete everyone.

I personally like building glass cannon wuk unless facing a superior team with all round better damage. Going glass cannon on him isn't as risky in multiple champion skirmishes because of your passive as you may already know.

I Main Swain1 votes

dont get me wrong i know wukong still works and glass wu is superior race but i just dont like it nearly as much as i used to. jungle just isnt near as much fun to me as it was before. i feel now like i have to spend far more time farming than before, when i could spend the greater half of my time ganking.

Verxint2 votes

How is it that whenever I see a Jungle Jax on the enemy team, he's somehow killed mid and bot 3 times in the first 6 minutes of the game? The guy usually has to gank me 3 times to get me because jump stun is so telegraphed.

FistOfSharkiesha2 votes

Well they buffed his ultimate after he had like a 52% win rate. They added a .75 second stun to the knockback for who knows what reason.

junglerboy162 votes

He doesn't feel particularly OP compared to the past. He's always been one to take over a match if he can bully the early game hard, and if he builds damage, he's a strong assassin like he always has been. The issue is just that before Sated devourer, almost nobody played him as a damage threat (which he has always been really strong as), but rather as a tanky initiator. He's fine as a bruiser, but he's always been able to dominate the game if he has the guts to go damage.

You're probably just seeing more damage Xins than normal.

diamondlight2 votes

Sated Devourer Xin is a menace. He's killable, but not necessarily before he's taken out 3 before dying. It depends though, he does need to farm fast and get ahead. If he does, man, he's a beast.

I tend to ban him because his backline dives + ult to knock everyone away while he kills the adc is extremely reliable, almost too reliable.

The main challenge is that you have to group and ward and keep an eye on him, because anyone caught out who doesn't have hard cc will get deleted by him.

Aheadatime2 votes

I've been playing Xin for a long time now.. since before they released his Dynasty Warriors skin. In my experience, Xin cannot turn a game around whatsoever. He goes hard with early ganks and relies on getting his team fed. If I have a team that consistently shoves, this makes it hard to gank and I don't snowball. If I have a team that consistently dies, I can't turn the game around single-handedly.

Xin is rather snowbally, moreso now that Devourer is out there. If you avoid his early ganks, you should be fine tbh. Also, taking drags hurts his Devourer stacking. I can't tell you how annoying it is when my bot lane is feeding and the enemy takes advantage of this and grabs early drags. Avoiding his early game ganks and preventing him from stacking Devourer makes him useless. He's extremely dependent on teamwork and early pressure.

Lauricella31 votes

he was very high damage especially at lvl 2 but it kinda falls off late unless he had 2-3 damage items. You just really need to ward because his early ganks are deadly

He does not fall off in late game. Build 40% cdr on him, and discover the magic of jumping and raping everything every few seconds.

shadecrapper1 votes

When I play master yi I can 1 v 1 easy. But I usually ban him because he just gets fed and face bash keyboard for win. Plus I got tired of seeing him in every game. He is one of the better junglers if he isnt against another devourer jungler. His ganks are easy to avoid but no one respects his damage.

kJs1 votes

His ganks aren't easy to avoid. With Sated Devourer or just Blade of the Ruined king he can knock you up pretty quickly and get away because it's a 1v2.

shadecrapper3 votes

Place a ward and you'll see him a mile away. If you can avoid the 3rd auto your fine. By the time he has sated laning phase is over.

sortitus1 votes

That's the second auto if he's Sated, and don't forget that you're probably slowed from his dash. Warding, though, is 100% effective since his dash is enemy targeted.

Xin was strong before sated tbh - in the early game when he brings damage, and the lategame when he's tanky. What sated did was give him a strong midgame powerspike, so now he's putting out assassin level damage at all points in the game, while also sustaining better than he used to.

Arcane Azmadi2 votes

Call me crazy, but I don't get why anyone would ban Eve. She's nothing special with Devourer, even with the huge AS boost from Ravage, and those last tweaks were pretty minor. Feel free to enlighten me, though.

kJs1 votes

People still complain about her being just another Rengar. Her perma-stealth is what a lot of people point to when they give evidence of Evelynn's apparent overpowered/heavy toxic or broken state.

You have to buy 100 gold wards and your apparently are just in constant fear mode for when an Eve might pop up.

I personally don't find her that toxic or broken or over-powered. She doesn't seem like the feast or famine type of champion either so I don't see any obvious hotfixing or rework for her that would be needed.

You basically just spend extra time focusing on where she is and where she might be. A good counterpick is Rek'Sai with her counterjungling (deep warding) potential, small mention of Rek'Sai's tremor senses that allows her to see movement of invisible units.

Does anyone know any other counter tips other than the obvious item 2043 item 3362 ?

She's definitely difficult to keep track of compared to most other champions but it doesn't make her toxic or broken or overpowered.

Zair Umbras1 votes

I dunno. After the runeglaive fix, I haven't seen a reason TO ban her. With Runeglaive, her E did half of its damage as magical on top of the runeglaive effect, essentially bringing back the AP Eve that Riot wanted to remove when they changed her E to physical. With it gone, she's just a Q spammer as AP and as AD, she can't do much since staying on target without proper CC is a bit challenging. lol.

sortitus1 votes

I think it's people seeing 500 HP disappear from a Sated E with under a second of warning. Sure, she doesn't have much CC or survivability, but it's near Shaco-level paranoia when you haven't seen Eve in a while. If you're a squishy under 1/2 HP and not pushed under turret, she's on her way to your lane if she's any good. Sated gives her AD build enough burst to compete with other top junglers if she isn't kept under control, but it's about even with Runeglaive AP as far as I've seen. I like AD currently because the sustain helps her be less vulnerable to invades from Rek and Lee.

As someone who played Eve before Sated and Runeglaive, I think the most effective way to counter her is to move your ward line up into her jungle. She loses invisibility while in combat, so a ward between blue buff and gromp (if she's red side) will spot her at either camp, or on top of krugs (if she's blue side) will let you know both when she's clearing that area and what direction she's heading after clearing.

She's a great scout since her vision range is longer than her detection range, and she gets a notification if she's spotted, unlike other invisibility champions. Without invisibility though, she would definitely be a full tier or two lower.
