I love League's characters but I don't like the gameplay

Damage is too high. This high paced gameplay is becoming tedious. I am getting older and I can't enjoy a casual game anymore simply because my reaction time isn't what it used to be. I have other responsibilities in life so I don't get to practice my mechanical skills as much.

I guess I will have to find other hobbies. Such a shame cuz I've been here since S3.

dude i feel you, after my drive to work this morning my left hand didn't want to uncurl from the steering wheel(Drive stick)

I don't have the fine motor skills I used to have, it's not a "Git gud" issue, it's just that i can't precisely move the way I could when I was younger and not riddled with arthritis.

They took away almost all avenues for good casual games. Kinda wish they'd make a map builder and an arcade mode like starcraft so I could just play that stuff instead.

If you want to try something that's a bit slower, WoW is actually a fairly deep PvP game combatwise (Patch to patch of course, sometimes it's mind numbing) and you can easily just play it on the weekends or whatever when your league friends aren't on and hitting you up. It's fun for a lot of stupid reasons but mostly I just like the way it controls... sort of like a much more in depth moba with different victory conditions for PvP.

To flashy Too much mobility Too much burst Dragons generating a massive permanent power discrepancy with no comeback mechanic

Seems like it's being designed for ESports, not for the players.

These are my biggest issues with the game.

Back in the day teamwork and strategy would outweight mechanical skill by a mile. Smart decisions, actual team maneuvers (like making a plan, who goes splitting, who goes distract, what will the team do in the meantime, where should they stand ready, etc.) you know all the fancy stuff. But today? With the current pacing 90% of long term strategy falls completly out of the window - there's just NO ROOM FOR STRATEGY when the lethal encounter is done in not even two seconds long. There's a limit in how many actions you can take in a certain timeframe, and a frame of two seconds just allows for not enough actions that would actually count as a strategy of any sorts.

They really ruined the best part of their own game and apparently they are even proud of that.

Beacon Academy11/22/2019, 10:48:00 PM16 votes

Strategy is effective in pro play, but irrelevant in solo queue due to lack of communication

Tactics consist of decision making during teamfights for outplays, but high damage has shortened the window and therefore Tactics is no longer a factor (The big reason why I think Faker is struggling)

That just leaves solo queue with mechanics, which is limited but accessible to everyone.

The game literally just consist of people roaming around the map, blasting people with kit rotations, until one side loses morale.

The title explains why most of the old players still play this garbage.

Clockwork Mouse11/22/2019, 6:15:18 PM11 votes

I just want to play Twitch every game but Kaisa and Xayah exist so I guess I am just shit out of luck. Feels like I might as well be playing with a disability picking any immobile champ in the game. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Power Cosmic11/23/2019, 5:21:47 PM9 votes

It sucks the game has gone so far away from what made it so successful in the first place.

Ben SwoIo11/23/2019, 8:14:43 PM9 votes

This game is dying for me. It's been years and nothing seems to improve. Busted champs go unchecked for months with no nerf or fix. Damage is at an all time high and seems to keep climbing. EVERYONE seems to get some sort of damn leap / wall hop / invulnerablity / untargetable ult. GA is still bullshit and should be a defensive item like it used to be, but NOPE, gotta have damage. There's so much more fucked up shit in this game I just don't feel like typing it, but I think we all know what those issues are.

I'm very close to stopping this game completely. I've lost the drive to play and definitely have not been playing as much. It's a game and SHOULD be fun, but it isn't anymore. Hit by one CC and you just seem to be fucked. If you don't play whatever the stupid meta is, youre fucked. Riot just doesn't seem t o get it at all and makes ZERO positive changes. They don't listen to anyone but themselves. It's getting old, I find myself playing more on my Ps4 and SNES mini than this damn game. It lost all strategy and thinking. Just feels like a fucking kill fest and who can out damage who now.

RacoonHunter11/23/2019, 12:54:42 AM8 votes

I too love the characters and I agree, damage and cc is too damn high. I was just in a game playing mid that was over in 20 minutes.

if riot actually cared about the game, they would look at not only win rate, but item builds. if there's an item that's showing up almost everywhere aka sanguine blade, then it needs nerfed. if champions have a high ban rate, then odds are, there's something wrong with that champion aka ekko, etc.

I mean, look at TFT. Brand was owning and not even a week later he's nerfed. it's ridiculous

I feel you op. I've been here since launch, and I too am older(wife, kids, career, etc). I'm at the point where border colors and game stress in a speed meta have absolutely zero appeal. I play with a group of buddies who I've been gaming with since Starcraft, and rgms are all we're interested in playing on League. With limited garbage time, I chose to play other games over spending another second in ranked, but I'll always stop back by for some URF or OFA.

Wolfalisk31811/22/2019, 5:35:41 PM5 votes

Well soon you'll be able to move onto other games that have League of Legends Champions, so that should work out pretty well for you then.

Quickdraw0311/24/2019, 5:48:45 AM5 votes

I do agree, but also understand the game is going to evolve it is going to have a shot at being popular for an extended period of time. My biggest issue isn't this, but rather the ability to play a cordial game and actually have fun without bringing out the toxic trolls. I am 34, I am a doctor (not that anyone believes this or anything following my age), I have my own clinic, I have a son and a wife, I have real world responsibilities. I cannot dedicate time to climbing a latter just to avoid the mud at the bottom. I wish I could avoid the mud (people who insist on ruining the game and any chance of fun while playing it), but there currently isn't a way to do this unless you grind ranked. Ageism is also an issue as I catch way too much crap from children, teens, and idiot young adults just because of my age. I know in the long run I likely already have attained more in my life than they will unless they have a huge attitude check, but it's still frustrating to have an 8 year hobby threatened by a worsening culture. I've invested over $600 into this game and only have one account, but I may need to consider a different hobby when I'm trying to relax at night.

Signing off,

Dr. Scott

wha- you want elder dragon to execute? okay!

Spôôked11/23/2019, 12:13:20 AM4 votes

only a robot could react fast enough to certain champions in this meta

my current record time is dying to a leblanc in 0,25 seconds, so dont feel bad

RedCyclone11/23/2019, 1:47:28 AM4 votes

Nothing feels more depressing then GETTING LOWER RANKS as you play the game because the paradigm just isn't what it was before and you suck in this new game

Rαy11/23/2019, 1:05:08 PM4 votes

I feel you. The universe around the game I used to love still exists, but the gameplay has turned into a braindead, disappointing, unsatisfying fiesta.

Wyrmblade11/23/2019, 5:19:14 PM4 votes

Generally, even in hard games, you can make one mistake and still live. In League I rarely ever see someone survive a full spell rotation. The last game I played, every single death people would just get deleted instantly and just go "WTF???" in all chat. That isn't fun, your kills feel like bullshit, your deaths feel like bullshit. Everything after laning phase is balloons covered in needles.

Let's say a 3/0/0 Zed attacks a 0/1/0/ ADC while he's alone, the fed Zed should still need some auto attacks to kill him, the ADC should be able to survive if he dodges Zed's combo or kites him really well. At the same time that Zed shouldn't get two shot by the ADC lategame for walking within 500 miles of him. You get locked out of the game for 50 seconds for a death that happened in 0.5 seconds. That isn't an exaggeration, that's a common occurrence and probably happened to everyone reading this who isn't a tank main in their last ten games. That's not fun, that's not even gameplay.

The way that scaling works also means that after laning phase the losing team will almost never be able to beat the winning team. The losing team's gameplay becomes 'Try to stall for 30 minutes until you have 6 items' the winning team's gameplay becomes 'Try to entice them into coming out of their turtle so you can delete them.' That isn't fun. It's pointless for the game to continue past laning phase. 1/15 games being able to comeback because someone on the enemy team AFK'd, got ridiculously overconfident or randomly decided to start tilting their team doesn't cut it. Surrendering doesn't cut it because nobody wants to lose either.

In URF if you get behind, you can actually still make a comeback because -both- teams do ridiculous damage so if you -outplay- the enemy then you can beat them and win even if they have better items. That's a proper League of Duty and it's fun to play, but regular League can't be that. What this game needs is for combat to take more time so there's more time for your skill to shine. It has to be more balanced so the enemy team is more threatening than the minions at all stages of the game, so that even if you're light years ahead there's always that "What if?" and so that even if you're light years behind your hope is legitimate and you can wrench it into reality if you can pull it off.

This is the normality through all competitive games. Older players have more eye for strategy and controlled gameplay. The younger generation has better mechanics, but don't really understand strategy or teamwork.

Also, you can play ARAM. The gameplay tends to be slow-paced from the constant turtling.

Yordle Gunner11/23/2019, 6:49:07 AM2 votes

Hopefully Leagues other games come out soon. Because yea I love the characters. I love Tristana, I want to see more of her relationship with Rumble and Teemo grow. But I'm over the gameplay, no amount of balance changes will fix that.

BigFBear11/23/2019, 6:08:24 AM2 votes

That slow reaction time thing when you get older isn't as bad like people say. If you play games you train your reactiontime every day anyway.

I turn 35 next Month and I still have an average reactiontime below 200ms

Test yours here: https://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime

That's not significantly slower than 20yrs old.

Also reactiontime ist overrated for a game like LoL. This isn't Counterstrike. In LoL it isn't only about reactiontime. It's way more about decisionmaking and macro game knowledge. Ofc, if you have 400 ms reactiontime, then it's gonna be a problem, but no one cares if you have 190 or 230 ms reactiontime. Maybe that counts in Challenger but in everything below Grandmaster people have WAY bigger problems than their reaction time.

There is no animation you need to dodge that is below 300ms or is there??

Blue Shift11/23/2019, 3:30:57 PM2 votes

I've only just turned 19, but I know how you feel.

I started playing when I was 11 and literally grew up with league. I used to watch all the old youtubers like Keyori, Uberdanger, Sky, Dunkey, etc... as well as people like Necrit and other youtubers that used to review the lore. My ritual used to be putting on those calming lore videos in the background as I played.

It's been a rough few years for league and it feels like everything they've done I don't like, but nothing will ever make me stop loving the game I grew up with, even if I stop playing due to it not being fun anymore.
