In order to beat a tank you must understand how they work. Tanks are the reason why you NEED carries. There are carries (pure offense), fighters/bruisers (offense + defense), tanks (pure defense)

Note now that Tanks typically have % based damage built into their kit and/or high base damage. That is why they hurt carries so much, tanks mitigate their damage by a ton, ADCs don't mitigate their damage much at all. Tanks itemize on a per-game basis. They try to mitigate the enemy team's damage as much as possible, due to the cost effectiveness of their items they will reach full build sooner than anyone else. That is why they are weaker late game. A full build ADC has thousands of gold more worth of gear than a full build tank. Nearly all their items are worth 3k+ while a tanks items are all in the 2k range.

In order to counteract the raw defense of a tank, you need the raw power of a carry. You need someone that can rip through all defenses. However, how effective your carries are is dependent upon their team-composition. No, I'm not only talking about peeling/protecting your carries. I am talking about the importance of team composition.

Team Composition:

3-4 AD Champions a team is very common in todays LoL. This makes itemizing as a tank very easy. "Oh sweet, Yasuo Mid, Renekton Top. Just gotta grab me some armor, don't gotta worry much about MR.." 100 armor from Thornmail, 70 from Randuins, 100 from Frozenheart, all that for much less than your IE, BotRK, and SS combo and shuts down all the damage dealers on your team.

TL;DR That is why having 1-2 AP champions on your team is extremely important. Make them build MR. More MR = Less Armor. How often do you have 2 AP champions on your team? That is how you beat the tank meta.

Itemization:

This is simple. Every major MR item in the game gives health. The best armor item in the game gives health. If you force them to build MR by having AP, your BotRk + LW combo will rip through tanks.

TL;DR the tank Meta isn't so bad when your team is diverse. % based damage is awesome as well, especially with the emergence of Cinderhulk.
