Macro-bots are known to be very popular in 3v3s and Dominion, but they are popular in 5v5s as well.

Do yourself a favor, do not group with/kick any and all players that follow the name pattern where there are 2 words in their name and numbers at the end, each of the first 2 letters of the words capitalized and run the summoner spells "Ghost" and "Heal"

Take counter-measures when seeing these players, such as asking "Who is our mid laner?"

Example: ExampleName22 ; ExampleName## ; ExampleName# ; ExampleName###

They all run the summoners "Ghost" and "Heal"

If you see this, this is a huge red flag.

Here is an example of this:

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1816810864/228378554?tab=stats

The Draven on our team was a bot, and the Shen may or may not have been a bot.

I played against Teemo mid as Mordekaiser, and our Draven obviously fed the hell out of their Jinx and didn't say a word the whole game. Just farmed the whole time, ignoring any and all teamfights. As usual, he follows the same pattern of name as other hacker-bots. This ended up being a fun game because we each had 1 bot, it sucked not having an ADC though and ultimately that is what cost us the game. I was able to use their ADC to much effect though lmao which is why I led the game in damage (yes, I outdamaged a fed Jinx as tank mordekaiser) We were all smurfs btw.

Crap they're invading teambuilder now? WHY!!!! On a funny player-bot related story, a couple months ago I played a Dominion (PvP) game where I was the only person in the whole game

SAME!!! OMG I was pissed because I wanted a quick Dominion match in the morning, and I went Heimerdinger, but then I soon discovered that I was the only human there, and I never died once but I did not have fun at all, especially since the bots did the strategy of standing under the tower for a few seconds and THEN started taking it... I haven't played a Dominion match since. It's sad.

Same, except it was SR

Very first pentakill I ever got was with Jinx on ARAM. I was the only human in the game and never died once.

I don't think sniffing for common bot name patterns is a good idea --- you already have 1 false positive in this thread alone.

A better way is to ask a question upon getting a new player, something neutral that an average player could easily answer but not a bot. Here are some examples:

  • "Bot check: What champion is top playing? Answer in 10 seconds or boot."
  • "Bot check: Name 2 summoner spells that the jungler isn't using. Answer in 10 seconds or boot."
  • "Bot check: Which lane and role is the captain playing? Answer in 10 seconds or boot."

No answer means a player who disconnected from chat, a player under a chat ban, a non-listener, an idiot or a bot, none of which you want on your team anyways.

Give it a bit more time, I'd say, but yeah. That seems like a good policy.

Lyrxen1 votes

Only problem with giving them more time is that you only have a limited time to decide

It Hertz When IP1 votes

That's before the person enters the lobby, dude... After the person logs into the lobby, you have all the time in the world.

Lyrxen1 votes

Are we talking about champ select? Because you can't kick people in champ select, and that's about the only time I know of talking to the other players before the game starts, and also, champ select has a limited time. What time are you talking about?

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

He's talking about Teambuilder, not blind or draft pick. You have plenty of time when building a team and waiting for everyone to lock in.

Oh, ok, for some reason I was thinking of normals

Careful with the assumptions. That Shen is more likely to have just been a new player. His op.gg history shows that he's been playing with their Jinx for several games, including multiple custom games. He seems to be learning how to play. A little over an hour ago, op.gg said he was level 4. Being a new account explains the use of Ghost/Heal, as those are level 1 spells. The name he used is an obvious play on a well-known game character's name, and 69 is ridiculously common as a username suffix for obvious reasons. His build paths across several games are not static, and he clearly did more than your team's Draven did in the game you linked. By your own admission, you were all smurfs. A level 4 newbie is going to get eaten by level 30s with prior experience on other accounts.

Some bots definitely use a template, but don't immediately assume that everyone who fits some criteria is a bot.

LifeCyclesTWA1 votes

Very true, and great point. The point is to show caution around people that follow that name pattern though. Try holding a conversation with them or something.

Edited the thread to show he may or may not have been a bot.

Shit. I wasn't aware I was a bot.

Though I'd never run ghost and heal together.

blueberrypancake1 votes

What if you were playing Lucian ADC

That is probably the only adc that could work with Ghost/Heal

Budupops2 votes

had this as well, and the bot followed the exact same build as draven

WhiteFireOCN2 votes

I auto dodge anything if someone on my team has ghost with heal, and if they don't talk, it's just an instant sign

warpenguin5551 votes

uhg did they have to come to teambuilder? why not blind pick instead, everybody is a troll there

DrCyanide1 votes

Team Builder is a better fit for the bots. After all, when everyone is essentially instalocking and AFKing before the match, they're less likely to be noticed until it's too late.

ya, less likely to be caught in blind pick, so why arent they there

Anidan2 votes

They're less likely to be caught in Team Builder, not Blind Pick.

Every mode has its flaws and downsides, that's one of Team Builder's.

DrCyanide3 votes

Because red flags instantly go up in Blind Pick if someone locks something in and doesn't say a word. In Team Builder, that's par for the course.

If you want a bot to survive longer, you need it to be less likely to be noticed. Between adjusted matchmaking and not talking in the pre-game lobby being acceptable, a bot in Team Builder is more likely to survive.

Also, why do the Team Builder players on the forums have such a "Holier than thou" attitude towards Blind Pick? There are so many issues with Team Builder that most of the time I avoid it like the plauge...

LegendaryLemur1 votes

On the other hand how hard is it to program a bot that says 'mid' in chat before instalocking -_-

DrCyanide1 votes

It could, but I think we have to ask why they haven't in the past. I mean, Team Builder is relatively new, and while bots only crop up once in a while, I've never seen a report of them typing anything. It could imply that the bot makers are afraid that having a bot that types things in chat will be more likely to be detected as a fake.

At present, there's no need to say "mid" in chat, because it can say "mid" in the Team Builder API and no players will question it.

LegendaryLemur1 votes

Yeah i very much wonder why they don't chat, it seems like it would be easy to do and make them harder to detect.

Also why do they always take ghost/heal? Switching summoners should be easy.

MVDuneCats1 votes

More work is always more work, even if it's more easy work. Chat as a bot? Easy work, but still work. Switch spells? Easy work, but still work.

Might as well make everyone else work first on counter measures before having to do any more programming.

LegendaryLemur1 votes

I dunno. I'd want to get out ahead of the curve. The counter measures could come at any time... do you really want your bots to be the first bots caught?

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Easier to program behavior for those spells, maybe? Flash is kinda wonky since bots don't use a mouse, Ignite/Exhaust/Barrier are wastes if you don't know when to use them... Teleport would probably be an easy program, but not useful in combat.

LegendaryLemur1 votes

Oh do the bots use their spells? I never noticed. Most bots i see just charge straight up midlane and die repeatedly. These are bots ive seen in coop vs ai on SR. I presume they do that to lengthen the games.

That or sometimes i've seen player-following soraka bots (old soraka) who would follow them around healing them.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Seen them use at least Heal, haven't seen Ghost yet though.

Team builder is JUST as bad as blind pick, with longer queue times to top it all off.

Heh. those are my main two roles. Try again.

It Hertz When IP4 votes

The holier-than-thou thing is kinda stupid, but I can tell you that I personally prefer TB simply because I don't feel like arguing with someone over which lane/champ I can play, and I can dodge without repercussions if some idiot locks Bard mid, or if I think the team comp is doomed, and best of all if I do that it doesn't really affect them other than they have to wait another minute or two for a new player.

Blind pick has instalocking assholes, and in draft pick I can randomly be screwed by the pick order.

Sypher The Poro1 votes

Another thing to look at is where they died. Shen, while he had a couple lane deaths also died near Dragon twice showing he at least tried to help his team contest it. Draven on the other hand, always died in or right next to a lane.

LifeCyclesTWA1 votes

See, I noticed that, but thought it was possible that the inconsistencies were due to his global ultimate.

PL551 votes

It's probably because you are still new to the game and you get matched with new players. When I was a low level I picked ghost and heal a lot because I thought it was the best combination. My build also be four berserker's greaves and my starting item.

LifeCyclesTWA2 votes

This is a smurf account, I've come across this issue on all 4 of my accounts.

revliledpembroke1 votes

I've never seen bots outside of Dominion. I don't know what makes me so lucky, but I seem to get more than enough idiots to make up for it.

BLU Medic1 votes

You shouldn't look at the username, names with two words and a number are REALLY common. Just ask them a basic question and see if they answer, and the Heal/Ghost thing is always a giveaway.

For a while these bots were in every game I played. I played an ARAM match with only 3 real players in it, including myself. Let's not mention the 3-bots-mid-feeding-Ryze Coop VS AI game I once shared with a level 10 Vel'Koz.
