Season 7 teamfight: https://youtu.be/kOc09vzfbJk

season 2 teamfight: https://youtu.be/eWtm0de-7Pg?t=3069 https://youtu.be/eWtm0de-7Pg?t=3872

so we have teamfights where 5 man dies in 19 seconds, and before in 20 sec at best 2 people died i can't even do anything, my contribution to the teamfight was two hook one E and one R, people die in a matter of a second how the fuck can i enjoy the game if it doesn't requiere to do anything?

do me a favor riot, and don't call your game league of legends league of legends was this awesome game that needed a brain to be played instead of pressing Q+W+E+R/rightclick

You don't have to go as far back as season 2. Remember the time in season 5 somewhere between Cinderhulk being nerfed and juggernaut rework? For me, it was the last couple of patches the game was fun for me. Diversity was quite huge, the games could both snowball or even go on for as far as 60 minutes (these were the games that were satisfying as hell for me even if I lost)... These were the last moments of this game for me, but at least they were very enjoyable, I for myself had a lot of fun playing this game then. With release of Juggernaut update, everything started to fall apart somehow, at the end of season 6, I felt like the game I used to play like a maniac for nearly 2 years was gone. Haven't played single match for nearly half a year and reading patch notes after patch notes, there's nothing that can attract me to this game again. At this point, I just wish there was a private server of League which has a game in state from season 5 I described.

Fully agree. Patches 5.11-5.14(ish) were when I had the most fun I ever remember having while playing and this is coming from a season 2 vet.

EinarUlfar6 votes

Season 5 pre-juggernaut update was sooo great. But as you said, there was this sense of everything falling apart from thereon. ):

LordGeovanni1 votes

cinderhulk only had 2 weeks - 1 month of up time before being nerfed though and was nerfed before juggarnauts even hit live servers.

Not gonna lie, I had to slow that teamfight down to see who died to who.

Earl Eulrich11 votes

yea, league had once been a really really great experience...and than morello quit being the lead designer.

Pale Pirate5 votes

The old morello and Phreak memes. I wonder if new players know "tons of damage".

Irelia Bot1 votes

Panth is dominating every game... Better nerf Irelia

3TWarrior1 votes

don't forget the 3 base AD

that'll show em!

KoggyStyle1 votes

i fkin know right? push gnar into 1 fkin build riot.

3TWarrior4 votes

here's a forgotten favorite

let's remove a small percentage of Zed's attack speed, a champ who should NEVER use auto attacks unless he is atop a target

SturmPioniere2 votes

That was more about cutting down his needlessly strong split pushing.

3TWarrior1 votes

maybe, but we all know everyone complained about his split pushing, right?

Is Phreak still here?

3TWarrior1 votes

illaoi can do 2700 damage without items and only one rotation of abilities

factor in cooldown reduction and other such things and you triple that on a non-offensive build

Golden Tager X7 votes

Ehh, Morello did kinda show alot of favouritism (Annie ) but I mean, anyone is better than ghostcrawler.

I think what caused this was the fact that Riot wanted to decrease how long the game took. Imo, that was a mistake. When they started to find ways to "decrease" game time, they buffed things that didn't need it, removed fun aspects of the game, and overall started to ruin the game. The best part is, the game is still lasting just as long as before these changes were made. Most of my games last 30-45 minutes still, some up to an hour (those are the best one). I believe they should revert the changes that sped the game up, because it isn't helping the game at all. If anything, it is ruining it.

deadlychuck2 votes

It's acceptable to reduce the time to some extent, but just as with every direction riot goes into, they don't know when to stop because it's harming the quality of the game.

Damage, mobility, game length, exc.

Swaid9 votes

I do miss the old days, back when I could play what I wanted rather then what was viable.

Oh well, back to Heroes of the Storm, hate me all you want but at least I have fun playing that and I cna actaully play the characters I want and still win a reasonable amount of the time.

Ahristocats6 votes

i don't want to make lies, you couldn't play everything

heimer was only played by otps that knew what he could do eve had 30% win rate, the lowest win rate i ever saw yi was only strong in low elo

and the others were all perfectly playable, heck trynd was played in competition but riot nerfed him

Gulma7 votes

AP Yi dominated high elo as well. They had to rework his ratios because of that. Very strong. Lee was viable EVERYWHERE. Tops could be played mid (Riven/Renekt/Rumble mid)

I wish I could go back to s2/3 league would be way more fun than what league has become now. Heck, if I could even find some replays (lost all mine sadly)

PaladinNO2 votes

heck trynd was played in competition but riot nerfed him

Wasn't that when they said they would nerf him? ...But proceeded to nerf Irelia instead? Or was that later on... My memory does not serve me well.

Ahristocats2 votes

Nop, they nerfed trynd his base ad base health regen Q heal W ad debuff which made him disappear from competition, he used to remove 100 AD in AOE now it's 80

Gulma3 votes

I believe that was because of AP Trynd. Man I miss how various builds could be. Miss AP Kog

Swaid1 votes

Or when Garen had to stack Sunfire Capes to be viable. Even had an Eve one time stack them and use them in conjunction with stealth to slowly kill people.

The issue is Riot Fell into a Power creep state.

Some thing riot wanted to avoid but obviously didn't

champions now just do Way to much damage. Riots already admitted this and has stated that there will be a Large Damage reduction coming to the champions because of this power creep.

They see it in the professional Play where one champion can single handedly wipe a entire team (minus a few exceptions Maokai and so on)

LankPants3 votes

The issue is Riot Fell into a Power creep state.

Around S4 they forgot why they had their "keep nerfing the top" mentality. They decided that some champs wouldn't be nerfed away from the top with dumb shit like the "Renekton Bar" and Lee Sin's immunity to nerfs. That's when the balance in the game started to tip to shit IMO.

Clementine5 votes

Skarner has had the same splashart for that long?? Poor guy :c

LordBrasca4 votes

Keystones in general just ruined the game...

Saw something like this but it had a zed laning phase as an example... would you believe me if i told you that a fight with zed 1v1 at level 6 lasted for more than 10 seconds?

Now you get hitted by one combo and thanks to thunderlord and either you recall or you just die in half a second.

Took zed just as an example but the problem is that there is too much free damage in general.

On a side note regarding the first video, that Ezreal in our current state of balancing would have been deleted 100% sure.

Kassadin

Ahristocats9 votes

Few things: -kassadin was at best decent in season 2. he was picked once in the entire year in competition and it was during ECC poland Alex ich picked him against Karthus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o37diDb-4RM

second: sure the game wasn't perfect, it had flaws and it had op picks like release jayce that was permabanned. But they were little, namely because we didn't have 130 champions**, And champions didn't prevent you from enjoying the long teamfight**

THE RlVER KlNG2 votes

TBH that Tahm played it horrendously - he didn't get a single stun off and basically just walked around, swallowed one person at the end, and then died. No one even bothered to try and touch the Caitlyn and they let Renekton just run around destroying everyone.

Otherwise, agree.

Ahristocats15 votes

you can't do shit with tahm when everyone is dropping like flies in 2 sec, he slowed me with one Q then i died a second later what do you want to do when you need 3 stacks to stun and eat

he ate kha'zix for no reasons and i admit it was a mistake

THE RlVER KlNG1 votes

their first mistake was focusing you instead of caitlyn or renekton who tore their backline a new one

they got the Syndra which was good but they didn't press their advantage - if I was tahm I would have immediately turned on Caitlyn the Renekton can't 1v3

Moetaro3 votes

Nope, renekton was waiting in order to defend his backline in case they tried what you say and target caitlin, plus dr sona would have been free to stop them too if they targeted renekton (exhaust included). Look at what happened to ahri when she tried to go a step ahead. They would have never gotten to caitlin without dying even faster than they did.

Ahristocats4 votes

"renekton can't 1v3" renekton proceds to kill varus in case you didn't see the renekton backed and i was left alone, so it's normal for tk to go on me he immediatly turned to renekton but renekton flashed

did you see cait damage? she killed tk in 3 hits, if you went on her this is what would have happened and lee sin was here to protect her, and renekton dealt so much damage it didn't matter he died in the end due to being isolated against kha

but real talk idk why this is related to the main point of the thread

Pale Pirate2 votes

This is pure nostalgia bias. How can you compare the first clip with the other 2 when the leblanc focuses the tank? That said people were more tanky back then.

Ahristocats4 votes

https://youtu.be/eWtm0de-7Pg?t=3268 what exactly did you want lb to do? she dealt ZERO DAMAGE back in the day in late game, she was straight up useless because back then people bought mr unlike now people are going full glasscanon

so if she focused a squishy it wouldn't have changed anything she would have died without killing any squishy, if you look at the moment i'm showing you she died in 3 spells of cass while dealing 40% of her hp

Angrychickén1 votes

Did you not just answer your own post? The reason people die in two seconds is because most of them expect to be able to build glasscanon and not be oneshot by the fed talon/leblanc/ryze/zed/whatever the hell you play. If people built tanky back then of course they wouldn't die.

Also, in your clips from season two, I saw a lot more than two people die.

Irelia Bot6 votes

Were you even playing during season 2?

KoggyStyle2 votes

MR rubick, please tell me why in s3 they balenced the game around people who dident play it?

Ahristocats1 votes

i don't know if they did this, and even if they did i don't know the answer

SILVER ELO GOD5 votes

Season 3 was fun tho and was when the game saw the biggest growth I think. Definitely the best season for me. But that could be because I saw very little from the end of season 2.

The competitive scene was also the most exciting back then. Now it's been declining in viewership every season and has garbage casters (EU especially).

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Have you seen S@20? They should be lowering damage next patch, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if that will be enough to make you happy, but they are trying.

Ahristocats12 votes

i'm happy that they are trying, but i'm sure it's not enough

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Hmm. I'm hopeful, at least. I mean, if that's where the extra damage is coming from, cutting it ought to help a lot. Especially early game.

Ahristocats2 votes

it's 2% from ferocity and 2.5% from cunning i'm sure it's not enough to make teamfights like in season 2

though like i said i'm happy that they're trying

LordGeovanni1 votes

they can try but according to their trend of balanceing that got us here the second they nerf any type of damage they are gonna start overcompensateing it the same patch if they ever do nerf something then in the next month they will buff it back stronger than it worse or nerf defneses over all for countering one aspect of one champion or item so its worse versus every other damage source in the game in the game
