Best thing that could happen to stoneplate is it being removed from the game.
What a mistake making this item was.
What a mistake making this item was.
Are you saying that because of Cho and locket?
Because beyond that I don't see how the item itself is a problem. Gives situational durability and costs your damage output for even more durability.

A item that doubles your health + 80 armor and mr for 2500 gold is the problem.
And the way it synergizes with anything that scales with health, and locket, and true damage...
Cant you see this item is a mess? It has no pace in the game and only breaks stuff.

While reducing your damage by 60%. It's basically a giant anti burst window.

So this is about those synergies.

I can't see anything past your biased most of the time.
Not kidding. It's so thick I could cut a donut out of it and eat it. It would be too salty though.

Except its not just me, pretty much everyone in high elo thinks this item should be removed from the game.
The "but it reduces damage" is completely irrelevant because nothing stops you from using it after you dump a full rotation of your kit, like jarvan EQWR and then use it for free 4~5k health + 80 armor/mr for 2500 gold, but what can i say, you want to see tanks dominating everything.

You're the only person in high elo I've seen complain about it outside of locket and Cho. And that's only because of now.

So someone can be smart about when to use an item active? Wow. Gee golly.
You're free to attack me on my biased towards tanks. But at least I accept my bias and do actively try to go against it.
So, an anti burst item is being used smartly?
Much OP, such wow.
Seriously though, it's only a problem in niche cases (cho) which means you just change the champ, and not the item.
Only other problem I see with it is that pretty much everyone buys it including champs that want to do damage like

All to basically shave off the early incoming burst of a teamfight I've noticed.
Well they arent supposed to buy it tho.. Id prefer it giving a permanent damage decrease or something
Eh...ADCs aren't supposed to buy BC but they do.
Honestly all fighter champions grab at least one tank or two tank items. They can't function full glass canon.
Forcing a permanent damage reduction on the item would make it support only and honestly sounds like a pretty harsh nerf without compensation if only to stop people like J4 building it. That's like saying DFG should make you take more damage when equipped to prevent melee AP from building it.
Id consider adcs buying cleaver a problem too and Lucian is still busted af imo despite his awful win rate xd
I mean, "Fighters, on the other hand, want to pick up a bit of durability but ultimately care about their damage as well.
This puts pure durability items in a weird place. If they provide too much raw tankiness, they risk making fighters too hard to duel. On the other hand, if they don’t provide enough, tanks eat too much ambient damage in teamfights to feel safe doing their job. "
From the 7.9 patch notes where Stoneplate was added, seems like it was designed as "you shouldnt be doing a lot damage if you have this item" to me.
In those 4 seconds anyway, which I believe only Cho is abusing the burst window in those 4 seconds.
I agree Cho is a problem. Frankly I think they should rework true damage so it cannot be reduced by enemies but can be reduced by you.
It should be used on renekton. Rene functions with his cool downs. While those are down, proc stoneplate to you arent useless. Dont see whats wrong with it.
the item is fine, it doesn't need to be removed that's just your wrong opinion
Just make the active give a shield instead of bonus health. Problem solved.
You do know that this is actually a buff in their durability right? They may gain bonus hp BUT skills that scale with the target will hurt them more. If it gave shield well then he literally would be a big middle finger to anyone that wanted to dmg him.
Stoneplate already is the middle finger. It's intended to be that. Making it a shield prevents Cho's health scaling ult.
While it will lower his ulti dmg by a lot it will become way stronger than it was intended to be. Shields dont have counterplay besides the 'do more dmg'.
But the basic counterplay will not change.
Edit: and it ruins the locket synergy.
No it won't.
What part of health replaced by an equal shield do you not understand?
Do you even play the game? Do you know what Max health damage is? Do you know what "Runic Armor" is? "Windspeaker blessing", "Grasp of the Undying", "Courage of the colossus" and "Heal and Shield Power"? Ultimates like Kayn or Rek'Sai who needs the enemy to be DAMAGED before being used?
Reksai got that interaction patched.
And would you rather have health that boosts true damage scaling on said health, or a shield that doesn't affect said things?
YOU would rather nerf everything about
for every champion, his synergies with Keystones and it's counterplays with Max health, only because you don't want to nerf just
who's pick/ban at LCS.
I believe Darius uses it too at times, so it's not just Cho.
And would you rather have health that boosts true damage scaling on said health
Darius ult scales on his own AD (not health gained from Stoneplate); He needs an execution to reset his ultimate; He needs 5 stacks of Hemorrage to gain half of the damage Cho'Gath ult does; His other skills have no strong CC to make up for the 60% damage reduction if he fails to reset;
No synergy with Stoneplate whatsoever, very conditional and stupid strategy to rely only on the ultimate damage since the rest of his kit will deal 60% less damage while he builds it (Old AP Master Yi level of conditional), just completely unrelated unreliable strategy that nobody even thinks about.

Yes, because it's only after Stoneplate and his E change that made him pick/ban. Without E he's back to how he was before the mini update. Without Stoneplate, he's much more balanced and potentially allows other champs or items to have some extra health.
It also removes the super locket that people have been complaining about.
It would actually be about the same, because, say, 12% max hp damage will still be 12% max hp damage. maybe not straight numbers, but they'll still take damage = 12% of their max health, whether they have 5000 HP or 10,000 HP
i don't know if it can be balanced
but seeing all tanks and bruisers buying this shit is disgusting, needs fixe asap
if I go the same way you think , then I will say "assassins building dusk blade /yommus all the time is disgusting "
assassins do not have 15 items that they can build FYI their build path is not as widened as tanks
This is the Ezreal argument all over again. Simply because one champion does really well with an item doesn't mean that the item is a problem.
Cho clearly has some balance issues that need to be addressed, Stoneplate seems to be okay as is in most cases.
As a sidenote: Ezreal is utter garbage regardless of what items he builds, but that's another thread.
I commend the idea of stoneplate. a pure resist item that gives momentary bursts of tankiness, would help for someone like Rakan or Zac get their cc off without dying. Sadly, it only reinforces bullshit like locket pairing or cho abuse
the problem is cho , not the item . he can get 6k hp without building items with much hp , his hp scaling should be nerfed , or make his ult damage based on base hp and stacks only
such a boring item too
They just need to make true damage reduced during the super-active time frame as well so that cho can't one bite ko the mage or adc.
And Leave the Assasins and ADC's with all those Damage items like Lethality?
Cmon dude if you take that out then you'll have to get rid of some other items too
The item is really good design. The problem is the disgusting synergy because of kits (cho) and locket. And its nature of being so good on tanks because they literally don't care about damage dealt, they just care about tankiness and doing CC. If it also reduced the duration of CC inflicted however.. (and obviously remove synergies like cho's)
