So before baron AoE would kill all voidlings 100% hp immediately, I just got out of a game however where he would only kill the one he was hitting. Was the first experience a bug (I had just assumed this was functioning as intended) or did riot give Malzahar some holiday love?

AoE effects weren't supposed to one shot them and they managed to fix that quickly. Dragon attacks still will though because they're told to die when hit by its auto-attacks even though they're AoE.
