Perfect example of what I think is wrong with smurfing (from a smurf)

I may smurf, but I play in a fairly close elo to my main and I definitely do not shit talk people while playing. It is uncommon, but occasionally I run into pretty high rated smurfs that act like total asshats. They frequently brag about their skill, trash talk the peoples' they are playing with skill level and are often streaming.

~Plat 2 elo, enemy mid links twitch with a "duo master smurfs, unranked to diamond" title. Respectable viewer count of ~180, guy plays incredibly cocky and gets himself first blooded.

1 hard carry later...

Duo is bitching about Talon being OP and how "that Talon is just plat garbage and won't climb", then they decide to go play on bronze accounts where they continue being toxic. While it was great fun embarrassing these idiots, I do wish that people who go full asshole mode like this on decent sized streams had some repercussions.

Even in the top 20 league streams there are plenty of people who do this regularly and see no punishment. They play at massive skill differences (I'm talking master+ in silver/gold) and feel the need to degrade the people they are playing with in front of a 1000+ viewership. When these type of people become part of the top 20 streams for league I feel like it makes toxicity seem acceptable.

I can agree with you there. If a smurf really has to play platinum level in BRONZE to feel good about themselves while making lower skill players feel bad then they shouldn't play the game at all. This is unfair to people trying to get better.

Personally as long as they arent being total asshats like you described, i wouldnt mind fighting a plat/diamond smurf here and there. Getting my butt stomped out might teach me a thing or two.

But then again, if youre so salty from playing in master and losing, that you hop into a plat game and still lose, thats telling you something.

If I was a miserable person and my only achievement in life was getting to Diamond V, I'd be an asshole too.

High ELO smurfing just needs to be fully banned.

It's toxic. It artificially inflates MMR, they're all hard stuck in their main ELO's that they resort to beating on lower ELO players for satisfaction. People think calling themselves a High ELO smurf gives them the role they want. They intentionally throw games to keep themselves in low ELO. They'll throw games if someone triggers them ONCE because losing a single game means nothing to them. It allows them to ELO boost.

It's a trend that just needs to be eradicated.

I think that's my cue to resurrect this old thread: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/AtjGhPe4-etiquette-of-smurfing

Written 2 years ago, bur I'm still happy with it ^^'

my problem with smurfing is the new player experience, I once purposely continued to get bad scores on a new account in co-op vs ai untill I unlocked summoners rift, and by bad scores I meant going like 1-9-2 every game which seems likely for a new player, I then proceed to get matched with new players and smurfs and I got flamed to all hell, as did the other new players for playing bad, e.g. a new player and it could really ruin the game for them

I cannot condone this, as people that do this disgust me. Throat punches for all the smurfs of the world!

Yeah, Riot should look at League streams and start banning the accounts used to make them.

Smurfing is never ok. One you ruin the experience for people geniunely trying to learn the game, in two ways one you play a role or champion you've never played before end up sucking a losing the game. Or you end up carrying them making the players on the team no better because you carried them. Another is the fact that some smurfs not all smurfs literally give up because this isnt their main account. They lose their lane or another lane loses then they give up and say of this isnt my main so i dont have to try hard. Which leads to them losing, even before they lose lane, someone will have the I dont have to try that hard cuz this isnt my main mentality.

See in all truth smurfing does not benefit anyone, nor does it actually benefit the actual smurf. If you want to try a new champion play norms, if you want to test a new build on your main play norms. Stop pretending like this is the only reason why smurfing is bad it is toxic and it ruins games for people actually trying to get better.

if these pepole are stupid then their veiwers are retarded how can anyone with a half braind watch that bs and enjoy it ? like wtf

I Main Swain4/23/2018, 4:55:03 PM3 votes

the people like that are the ones who get no satisfaction or feeling of control in their own lives so they go to the game and do everything they can to get that feeling of superiority by any means necessary, usually by intentionally playing against players who arent very good and trash talking them like youre just a god

I mean, i'm not sure the goal of this thread. If its to state that most smurfs are smug ass holes? Yes. Yes I think most already do know this too.

It's a way to feed part of their narcissistic tendencies "Look at me I'm better than you", it gives them shit to feed their ego. Cool, whatever makes you feel better bro- I could care less if I appear as an insect to them, knocking them down a peg might be satisfying as fuck but it also kinda stoops to their level. It's just better to sit back and watch them eat their own words half the time. That being said, I also kinda get it. I mean I in no way condone whats being done here- but like it gives them an oppurtunity to really show case their personal skill and makes them feel good. When they get toxic about it? Sure they're shit heads, but I've fallen into that trap.

I mean, I just got off my last game on my second account and fucking HARD carried on LB, constant picks that kept us in the game when we had lost first inhib. I helped our 3/7 Kai'sa become relevent again. I kept them from baron'ing a 2nd time on us while our jung died. Didn't get a single honor, feelsbad. https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/match/na/2769459447#participant7

Expecting Riot to do anything about pro players or high ranked players is like expecting New Orleans not to flood during a hurricane. Those people are above the code of conduct and can do whatever they want with no consequences. It's been that way forever and won't change because Riot says it's ok.

RIOT...END FKNG SMURFFF.........smurff=cheating......this game do shittt about it why?

fatherdarius4/23/2018, 3:05:16 PM1 votes

My guess is they were over-confident. I mean, even Faker screws up ONCE in a while, right? Professional basketball players miss their free-throws, professional bowlers don't ALWAYS land strikes, etc. Unless they're in LCS, these guys are basically very skilled amateurs.

Amateurs practice until they can play the game right, and then keep trying to get better.

Professionals practice until they pretty much can't play the game wrong.
