Concern for An Old Champion :'(

Shen is a pretty basic champ, a nuke, a shield, a dash. Seems like a fitting kit for a ninja, but how do summoners really feel when they play shen: 3 traits required:

Passive farming Map awareness Selective Building

No one will get the experience or feel when playing Yasuo, Gnar, Azir, Kalista or the upcoming Rek'Sai in comparison to playing shen, and they shound't! but shen's kit doesn't have a wow-factor, he doesn't have a spell that is situational; like Yasuo's ult, a passive that is uncontrollable; like Gnar, a passive that allows him to rebuild or even protect fallen turrets; like Azir, an auto-attack that requires him to be alert and allows repositioning; like Kalista or abilities that differ depending on the mode/stance he is in like Rek'Sai. These are just a few of the attributes that makes these champs amazing and fun to play. Whereas the only thing that speaks shen is a global teleport/shield. He needs something outside his ult that is unique and has "Shen written all over it". Although being a tank he is seen as nothing more than support. And although tanks can shield their allies and absorb tons of damage, being a tank should be a trait or class of champion, not an occupation or role (sounds even dumber when I listen to myself say it). But RIOT makes it that way because they strive for teamwork and co-operative along with individual skill, strategy and intellect; which they should but I just think Shen isn't as appealing to play as he visually seems. Over a hundred champs and many of them have single-target spells/skill-shots, shields/buffs/steroids and dashes/blinks.

The question is what sets them apart from the rest, I in my opinion. Shen does not deliver on this core aspect.

Please Riot, Please give him a rework Shen I know he has legendary potential.

Shen has the dash taunt, which i feel is a very core ability for him. when you ask me what do i think of when thinking of shen, i always think of the dash taunt entire team rather than the ult.

a lot of champs are basic yet super powerful and yet out of all the new champs riot puts out very few of them are actually good yas and gnar shen stops all top lane aggression cause of his passive tanky style yet having a strong carry potential he is not an op champ but is very valuable super unique and is highly respected in high elo and is the direction i would like riot to go in for their tanky top laners (map control)

Shen's a lot stronger than people give him credit for. There's a reason he was a such an consistent pick for a long time up until they nerfed the width on his taunt.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying shen is weak... I I win games with him with low deaths, tons of assists and an average amount of kills. I pick him regularly, simply because I like his concept, model and lore; and i'm very fascinated and influenced by japanese and chinese culture like kung fu, samurai, ninja and anime.

I just think he can be a little more interesting, giving him a little more CC. I mean ninjas are utility-based, relying on their weapons and equipment to overwhelm the enemy and get the job done; having just enough fire power to take out their targets. Adding something to his kit that is unique and rare amongst champions will increase his overall appeal, something outside his ult to make the gaming experience legendary. It will certainly help since he falls off in lanning phase. The question is, how to do so in proportion so he is not op both in lower lvls and in teamfight when ulting in.

My 3 suggestions:

  1. Add CC removal and temporary cc immunity to the shield on W. This will give shen's shield a higher purpose than to just negate damage also he will have to be more patient to use it and smart as when to use it to maximize this effect. Will truly make up for having no mr per lvl and help lanning against mages/ tanks with cc abilities.

  2. Make it so that when shen dashes to a target marked with shadow dash, he shaves 2 seconds off the cooldown for his next shadow dash. This will help since player don't really max shadow dash first and if they do it;s good. He will finally have that situational factor like yasuo's ult (Got this idea from Diana ult). This along with the energy changes to E that are coming :) love you pbe.

  3. You could make shen have another damage ability that it part of the w. Only becoming available for use when the shield has brocken, doing 50% of the shield's strength as magic damage in a slash in front of him. Making him a bit more of a threat and giving him some nice wave clear for minions :) It won't be op since shield only absorbs 60 damage meaning it will do 30 magic damage at level one and shield has poor scaling so no op problems thier. If not you can increase base vaule on q by 5 at allrespectively level 65/105/145/185/225 with same scaling and energy cost but increase the health regen scaling on Vorpal Blade from 1.5% to 2%.

That'd make him too strong of a dueler then.

Well it's not like he is a flippin' mage. He's a flippin' ninja, he suppose to be a duelist the very least, not aa human punching bag.

All other tanks have multiple form of CC, along with a stat buff. Lets look at some champs:

Braum has stun, slow and knock-up on ult Malphite has slow and knock-up Rammus has a knock-back+slow on q and a taunt that lasts forever, if you ever dive under his turret your as good as dead.

Shen has a small duration taunt, but I will overlook that because it can hit multiple targets, provided the player is that compitent and it can also be used to go through walls, escape and close gaps with the enemy (only concern here was the high energy cost but thats gonna change so all in all.... good ablitiy. I also have no prob with ult, even though he can't use it on himself.... which is dumb, you ever tried playing shen 1v1 in aram? Not a very smart choice, and some ppl are actually stupid enough to actually take the ult at lvls 6/11/16 via 1v1.

I just think something is truly missing, he just feels broken now (in-a-bad-way). I think it has to do with removing the shield on him when ulting, because i never experienced this feeling before then.

He needs something, not more damage... although that'd be nice :3 He needs either more CC, tank/sustainability or the CC removal/immunity i mentioned in my ealier comment.

he doesn't have a spell that is situational; like Yasou's ult

bullshit he doesn't, a q that heals whoever attacks the marked target, a dash/taunt, and a global shield aren't situtional?

Clearly you don't understand what i mean by situational, for example: Yasuo can only use his ult when enemies are knocked up in the air. So is ok for him to have a high damage impact ult that can be use on multiple targets because the chance of him landing a tornado or being near an enemy when they are knocked up is pretty slim especially against pros.

Shen can use his abilities freely, he dosen't need a circumstance to use them. However he does have energy cost problems which can leave his whole kit disabled for a considerable amount of time in the heat of battle.

sorry, i wasn't sure what you meant by situational. i thought you ment that it is a knock up and can help the situation...

Lol, it's all good bruh. Shem is strong (not op though) and I like his concept I even like his playstyle more than Yasuo's and yas can multi-dash a team in a few seconds. I just think Shem can use a little tweaking to be more interesting ability-wise... Some flashy new animations would be nice too.

How is saving a team mate + getting 3 kills for 0 deaths + dragon + a turret, then teleporting back to top and taking out that turret not a "wow" factor. There's a reason he's not as strong as he once was. Shen used to be the closest thing you could get to immortal. 3800 health, but hit like an adc, but had the sustain of soraka pre nerfs, and the tanking abilities of Garen with the cc of Rammus, and the escapability of Lee Sin. You never really beat Shen . . . you merely delayed him, or pray you beat the game before his niche started to shine.

ExecutorDill1 votes

That's just great, myself have never taken out 3 champs, minions, dragon and turret then teleported back and get turret. I don't think he is weak bad or inefficient, but he has room to be more without being op the only abilities I get pleasure using is shadow dash and ult sometimes.

that's true, but I only play support so I can get faster tea, builder games. I'd prefer to be able to hold my ground top, against average player with a shen -_- he too difficult to win with. Shen
