Also, this gives you a third option for her seeds - if a plant is already up and the Ult hits it, it operates as it does now. If a seed is not up, and the ult hits it, some new thing...stun explosion? I don't know, I only came in here to say "swap the ults, you don't even need a redesign on the base skins"

But to make my comment less about how boring that would be. Allow me to explain why they ults for each champ currently work as they do now:
As simple as it seems Maokai's ultimate is an engage tool and can be minorly used as a disengage option. The reason being it's outrageous reach. Meaning it can entrap an enemy team with little to no anticipation.
Zyra's on the other hand can be played in a moments notice when peel NEEDS to happen. It creates an immediate zone that forces the opponent in pursuit to either commit and face the knock up and empowered plant or peel back and avoid punishment.
You could make the argument of "Zyra having Maokai's ultimate can peel just as well" However because Maokai's current ultimate requires direction and range to take full effect. It's easier to whiff the roots in the wrong direction and end up having the enemy committing to their pursuit. Additionally it would act as a player morale boost knowing that the support whiffed their 'ultimate' form of peel.

If what maokai has is an engage ult, then your framerate must be through the floor. IIRC it's root is based on travel time, and it's travel speed is more Turtle than Rabbit.
With this swap, he could W in, drop his ult, and then Q them back meaning they'd have to either run longer into the ult, or out towards our team. It would be a great combo imo.

Nanuk Pihoqahiak1 votesHis ultimate is not at all an engage tool. It's used more for zoning / when other lockdown is already present. If you try engaging with his ultimate, you'll typically just watch the enemy afk for 5 seconds, and then walk out of it.

If his R became what Zyra's R does, he then has to be in the middle of the enemy team before casting R to use it optimally. Making him better for disengaging against dive-comps rather than for engaging as a Vanguard. I'm not entirely opposed to this, but keep that in mind when weighing the consequences of your suggestion.

Handy Sandy 1 votesBecause maokai isn't an offensive tank, he's defensive and focused on peeling others. He WANTS to keep people away from his carry by locking down most of the enemy team. His engage is weak compared to someone built for it like Zac.

Really? I tend to use it the other way around. W in to the back line, turn and ult toward my team meaning any escapes from the ult are into the waiting arms of my ADC.
