Make Sterak's gage melee only

Done, now no ADC will build it. Hard right? You can already contract me riot.

Sterak's on ranged champions is not necessarily a problem if it has the right tradeoffs. As far as that is concerned, the changes on the PBE are actually quite ingenious, if you think about it.

  • HP lowered to 400: That was not done because Sterak's was used on ranged champions. This change was implemented because the item was genuinely on the rather strong side. Note that its anti-burst functionality was not touched at all, only the amount of raw stats it gives on top of it.
  • Build path changed from Jaurim's + Ruby to Jaurim's + Long Sword. In combination with the HP nerf, this is the part that will make Sterak's inferior on ranged champions. Both changes together mean that the final item has a higher part of its gold efficiency connected to the AD-boosting effect. From the components, you'd get 25 AD - meaning that one would need 100 base AD for the boost to give the same amount of AD as its components. For Juggernauts, the intended primary users of the item, these base AD values are reached between levels 10 and 12. For ADCs, 100+ base AD is only achieved at level 18, if at all.

maybe even just have the benefits it gives reduced for ranged.

ranged characters get a 10% bonus to base damage and a 15% max health shield instead of 25% and 30%

Only adc's use it because it is the anti burst thing they have. Thing is, adc's shouldn't get anything anti burst. They should survive through peeling. If the item get nerfed to the point that is not that good at anti burst, adc's will simple not buy it. And reducing it would be pointless instead of making it melee only.

I thought GA was a pretty fair counter as well :P

is making ADC's not buy it not the entire point? also, making it melee only would suck for Gnar Jayce and other ranged tanks or bruisers.

Have never seen jayce buying it. Gnar in mini form doesn't actually engage. Once he engages he is mega, and sterak will work as normal.

You do realize Sterak works if you're taking damage, right? What you're literally saying is "If an enemy jumps on Mini Gnar, which is when he's most vulnerable, he shouldn't get the intended benefit of Sterak's."

Exactly???

...That's NOT a good thing. That is literally defeating the entire purpose of the item.

Or have the shield scale exlusively with bonus health. Ideally it would be less than what it is now for ADC's but maybe a tad more for health stackers.

I mean, does anyone rush Sterak's as a first item?

Heavily depends on the matchup. I mean, if you are against someone who doesn't stack armor but you don't want to buy armor/mr.

Then item 3071 or item 3748 / item 3074 depending on champ, no? I just feel like Sterak's doesn't come into its own until late game - with more levels for the base AD scaling and items for the health scaling shield.

It the person doesn't stack armor, don't know why buy BC if they also have good dueling. Titanic hydra as first item is kind of meh, and most bruisers don't buy hydra

You just buy Hydra and then swap once you have a decent amount of hp.

This is probably the best option.

Juggernauts are supposed to be rewarded for stacking HP, right?

The only people who suck harder at balancing this game than Riot are the people on the boards.

I await the downvote train for speaking the truth.

I dont understand what riot is so scared of. The hydra items are melee only for proc and they worked out fine in terms of balancing. They could do the same to other items and control itemization between ADCs and all other champs.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Not only ADCs are ranged. And the hydras have the Runaan counterpart.

AwesomeChad1 votes

Runaan's does not add add extra dmg to the initial target like hydra does.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

(Well, yes, 10 on hit + crit + as) That's why they're split in two items, one for ranged and "one" for melee. They preferred to give two different ones to the two classes. But it doesn't need to be like that for everything, for every item. We could very well have Runaan's work for melees by including some melee only lifesteal, and Hydras work for rangeds through a simple damage nerf on rangeds.

What melee wants this item? You can't have too much resistances because that prevents you from procing the passive. You can't be too tanky because then people will kite you instead of try to burst you down, which makes it harder if not impossible to proc it.

The whole reason why ADC are using the item is because they are the perfect users of the item. They are squishy and get targeted every damn fight. I say leave Sterak's for the ADC and create a new 'berzerker' item in its place for melee. That or totally revamp the conditional for the passive so that melee actually has a reason to use it.

i promise you it does trigger on a 6 item juggernaut almost every fight. you seem to udnerestimate the burst in this game right now.

darknuke2 votes

I use it all the time on Vi. Any fighter with a trinity or gauntlet gets good synergy with Steraks.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

NO. Not only ADCs are ranged. Just make it a bigger % of your health on melee champs.

darknuke1 votes

No... I main Graves and get it on him every game. It doesn't even make sense why you wouldn't let ranged champions use it.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Well, they're actually wanting to take it away from us ranged bruiser players because Graves is more damaging than an ADC even with it.
