Did the Akali rework fail?

They didn't learn anything from ryze kalista or azir. Just another champion that gets thrown into the <46% winrate pit to rot. Almost like excessive dashes are toxic to the game or something.
Fail at what exactly? Balancing the champion? Yes
Selling more skins? It succeeded. All is right in Riot games.
Yes. Akali rework was so overloaded that even with her trailer before release to live, she was thought to be too powerful, overtuned, and overloaded. There was even a thread saying it seemed unfair to play immobile champions now because of her rework and the moment the rework was released, the amount of frustration against her was sky high (i mean it's no surprise since she is a champ designed by certainlyt, but I can't talk about him). Her identity has been ruined. An assassin champion but played in a bruiser way. That's not even how assassins work ffs.
Note: this is before the nerfs and removal. Akali is the only champion I know with like 8 mechanical functions in just her passive and Q in total. A slow, a heal, a movement speed buff, another movement speed buff, ranged auto, an empowered auto, energy restoration, aoe, and double ap and ad scaling. Note that all those can be enhanced with Hextech Gunblade.
Her W is probably the most toxic ability in the history of toxic abilities and simply because of one thing. True stealth. Like wtf is that? Oh so hiding under tower is now illegal? Is playing safe now a reportable offense? The fact that it hid you even under turret was the most hated and main core of frustration on Akali and riot took them exactly 8 months to remove it. 8 MONTHS! Yes, I counted.
Her E my only critic is that why does it have to be something used as an escape and also as a gap closer? Oh I mess up? I can escape. Oh you're low? If I hit you with e, there is literally no escape.
Her R since it could scale with both ad and ap (which again idk why this is a thing), had a freaken stun because why not, and even had 2 charges was something that was just pure bullshit.
EVEN after a ton of nerfs, a ton of removal of mechanics, Akali still remains an overloaded champion and yet apparently still seen in pro play? (I don't watch pro play but I was told she had presence this year too).
This champion was a very toxic champion to the point that she even made the players toxic. I mean, I saw a freaken thread of some guy who literally reports every Akali player whether they are on his team or enemy team. Reason? Simply for playing that champion. Nothing else. Doesn't matter on performance.
Yes
I feel like they gave her too much safety and power by making her dashes not point-&-click, since they forced to choose a target in order to use them. Now she can use them however she wants.
It was made by CertainlyT with the intention of outdoing both Darius and Yasuo is unbalancablity and stupid mechanics. (Not to mention she still rushes gunblade and plays drain tank) As a whole she failed and missed the mark entirely.
In the sense that she is infinitely more broken post rework than she was before (as in after Riot removed her Q proc on her E) judging by the fact that Akali has been nerfed more since her rework than she ever has been before her VGU. Last I checked it was 6 actual patch note nerfs for pre-rework Akali and 9 for post rework Akali.
Riot needs to take her back to the drawing board and do large scale work to fix her problems.
The funny thing is that pre rework Akali never did reach as high a ban rate as reworked Akali
They wanted to put so much on each ability to the point where even kallista would be impressed.
No. Shes quite well designed.
Its no better than old Akali, which was literally a low-interactive stat check every time you fought her.
At least she looks cool now.
Her rework was a massive success. Played by loads of people, sells skins all that stuff. Up from a playrate of 1-2%.
Sadly this also means her gameplay failed. Her shroud was/is still a joke, her damage and movement insane.
Pretty much the exact same as Aatrox.
Idk what riot thinks....
Basic of games, if you are fast attacking your attack is weak but you will make a lot of damage if you keep attacking because you probably will hit more than miss. If your attack is slow you will do a lot of damage at once but you have more chance to miss.
Riot goes and give a lot of strong attacks on something that moves fast and has stealth. HELLO RIOT THIS IS A MULTIPLAYER GAME NOT A SINGLE PLAYER... PEOPLE ARE NOT AI WITH WEAK SPOTS MADE TO BE KILLED.
She went from being a stat-checking 1-shotter to whatever the fuck she is now.
Riot accomplished their goal, i guess
Since they intentionally designed and balanced her to be broken, no, it did not fail.
Compared to old akali? Yes she definitely was a success. Old akali was so unfun I would rather pass a kidney stone than play against her as any mage without a dash on a 2 second cd. New akali actually has counterplay when it comes to most midlaners. I can see why top lane might be an issue but I have never faced an issue with her mid
100% fucking failed.
More fanservice so more money, but SHITFUCKED gameplay.
Is she balanced? No, but I don't think balance alone dictates whether the rework was a success or failure. When I think of a successful or failed rework I think more of whether the champion is in a better or worse spot now than they were before the rework, since I think that's the larger, overarching goal of reworks. I think she's in a better spot now than she was before so I would very loosely say it succeeded in that goal.
I loved old Akali. This is someone who once got the hell beaten out of them by old Akali on a daily basis and still think she is superior to the current version. When I learned how to properly use her, I was able to get some really good games but this new Akali is just a really bad idea. Frankly, revert her and be done with it. As an assassin her kit was better with the old method that rewarded kills and assists, she had less dash and more counterplay. Who else remembers the fun of chasing people down a lane with her R to basic attack the Mark of the Assassin time after time? I also loved the twin discipline passive where AD gave spellvamp and AP gave bonus on-hit damage, compared to that this one is massively inferior.
If a champion has received nothing but constant gutting and is still strong (even in pro play), that alone should tell you it failed. Any other champion receiving the same amounts of nerfs as she did would be now in the dumpster. Her rework was a success visually and on popularity, not on gameplay (which should be what matters the most).
No, the akali rework did not fail. Wanna know why? Because riot made a fuck ton of money selling skins for her, when she was broken. After her rework akali skins sales sky rocketed and riot made money off of it. Nobody quit playing because of Akali. Does riot give a shit that pre-rework Akali was literally deleted from the game and replaced with this unbalanceable piece of garbage? NOPE! Bottom line is riot doesn't care about YOU, riot doesn't care about player frustration and balance. They care about money. And as long as releasing Anime girls and overly complex unbalance-able certainlyT-esq kits makes them money they are gonna keep doing it.
It did not fail.
Her kit was also not overloaded. It had a similar number of effects as other champions released in the last few years.
It was however VERY powerful, and was unfortunately unhealthy for the game. I really miss the heal on her Q, and the obscure on her W, and the stun on her R. But if they had just nerfed her damage, she wouldn't scale at all, and would be awesome, but useless.
Just like a really good zed player, a great akali player can make it feel impossible to play against her, leaving so few windows of attack against her that unless you can capitalize on them, it feels unwinnable. Same thing as Zed, where it can feel you have no ability to even target him before you are dead.
Akali's new style is great, and her gameplay can be fun to play, so no, I don't think it failed, just came out too powerful.
it completly failed, she's more obnoxious to lane against than befor with spamable ranged harras+waveclear vs melees and potent gapclose+all in even pre 6 vs ranged, her all in threat isn't much lower than befor, and she has much more tools to work with in teamfights and more safety, so she's broken if played well...
The only thing it succeded in is in makeing her less of a pup stomper...
I wouldn't have a problem with her If It wasn't for the fact she uses energy. If she was a mana champion, I could use that to punish her for being aggressive, but she gets her energy in 10 seconds and proceeds to do the exact same thing as she never used her abilities. But as long as she makes money, just like Yasuo, she Is not considered a failure by Riot standards.
Yes it failed. As a juggernaut main, I shouldn't be struggling against a mostly melee assassin like her in top lane. But instead she perpetually pokes, microstuns, shrouds to stop my all ins, dashes away if she loses a trade, dashes in if she's winning one, somehow outsustains me even when I'm landing my Qs. Like what tf gives. A fucken mobile assassin shouldn't be able to just all-in an immobile juggernaut (who has mana restrictions) at will constantly and safely whittling me down with almost zero window for retaliation.
Ranged champs, mages, cc, renektons, jax, etc, already counter immobile champions. Why should mobile assassins with near unlimited target access and a million tools also be able to have the advantage in a juggernaut matchup. It makes zero fucken sense to me. The bitch has too many tools.
Compared to old Akali? No. As much as she's problematic now she's still infinitely better that old 100% point-and-click 100% stat check champion that was never anywhere near strong without being completely oppressive at the same time.
Compared to what should be held as a standard for a healthy champion? Hell yes. She's surely better than she was but it's still not good enough.
The biggest thing is she isn't even that hard to lane with. Her Q had a long range and with the movement speed slow from it proc'ing combined with the auto attack range increase she can trade sooo easily. She has no resources to manage and her energy refills quickly. On top of that if she does use her abilities and potentially get stuck in a situation where she might lose a trade she can simply shroud and E to get out of it. Or shroud and keep chunking you. She isn't even an assassin. She is a really a duelist. Yes she has a high skill cieling because 1v3ing with akali is extremely hard, but the fact that her laning phase is so safe is the most infuriating thing, especially toplane
Yeah shes so unbalance with the fucking Q spam and the R damage to be honest
Idk they made her super fun and intresting. I think where the fault lies is shes kinda tanky for a assassin and her e makes no sense. Shes wayy to safe for an assassian
Her rework kept her identity and play style, unlike
, so it's a win for me. About her being balanced, I think Riot hasn't been taking the right steps to balance her.
The rework didn't necessarily fail, because she has the characteristics of an assassin.
She just needs to be tuned. I think her biggest problems are as follows:
A) The range on her Q needs to be nerfed. Kunai's do a lot of damage and melee range champions can't deal with it half the time. Top lane akali is cancer. B) Her shroud is just unfair. I would rather the shroud make Akali just untargetable, but still show a silhouette of her.
"Yes just like us"
"I can't wait to be broken and unbalanceable. Or useless due to pro play! I can't wait! :D"
