i have been given support once in the past 29 games

SwiftKitten88··49 votes·2,285 views

i have support secondary in all of those and autofill has been up for about 20 of those games...

WHY ON EARTH do people complain about autofill. its NOT going to make any difference in your rank...

It is because you constantly get autofilled teammates. I can play every role just fine even if I get filled but that top lane main on my team playing against the Caitlyn main or that Vel Koz otp on my team getting filled as jungler... not xd

alcatrazEscapee8 votes

The enemy team will get autofilled teammates just as much as your team though, so all it does is increase the randomness of a game, rather than drive your rank in a particular direction.

Also, based on OP's 1/29 games support with it as a secondary role, I would be willing to say an autofill happens in 1/40 queue's. For five independent players the chance that you have at least one autofill on your team is:

nCr(5,1)*(1/40) + nCr(5,2)*(1/40)^2 + nCr(5,3)*(1/40)^3 + nCr(5,4)*(1/40)^4 + nCr(5,5)*(1/40)^5

Which works out to ~13.14% (Or one in every 7-8 games) you have an autofill on your team.

Well I look my teammates up every game just to see what they play and its extremely rare to get 5 people that all main their role on a team. And if that happens, its basically a free win.. which is kinda sad, ranked is pretty much decided by autofill. Sure enemies get autofills too, but that doesnt exactly make it better.

Phyuq Yiu2 votes

I do the same and it looks like a lot of people not geting their main role and playing champs that I cant find more than 1 game of on their acct this season. I am a supp main otp. But I'll have an 87% win rate Darius playing jg for the 1st time and mid asking if he can adc... I really judt dont want autofilled adc/jg so I look em up in champ select and see if I need to dodge.

Itsbeghdev1 votes

Like, even if you get 100% no autofills on your team every game, and your enemies aren't so lucky, that's still your enemies losing a game to autofill which sucks for them.

TheHappyReaperz3 votes

So switch with them. Not just you, but your other teammates. If you really want to win by having your team play their best roles, just switch roles in champ select.

Salron18 votes

Congrats Some of us get autofilled more often and also into a larger variety of roles Wow it's almost like your personal anecdote isn't representative of the experience of all players!

OP Garen Support2 votes

It would be a shame if you would be auto-filled to support role on your gold promos paired with an unranked adc who went afk after 3 minutes. (violent flashbacks of everyday ranked)

The other time I got auto-filled as support for my unranked adc with 70 games. He was feeding and flaming me all game saying I dont know how the game works. (I was platinum in the last 2 seasons)

You're immune to Auto Fill while in promos.

OP Garen Support2 votes

I did not know that. I might have switched up the last game needed for promo( +-85 lp ) with the promo but whatever you understand my point.

Fisher No Chains1 votes

Also, I've noticed that in higher elos you get autofilled fairly often, probably because that's the ~2% of player base.

In gold I could play 30 games without being autofilled. In plat1/diamond I have to be careful everytime my autofill protection is off.

Fun fact: high elo, where you get autofilled a lot, is where autofill really ruins the game. I don't see much of a problem with autofill in lower elos, but being autofilled top (my worst role) vs a toplane main in diamond feels just awful.

Nahui6 votes

Because league is a game of individual gods where we win because we carried the entire team on our backs and we lost because lag, feeders, trolls and, you guessed it, autofill into a role we don't play.

If people actually took responsibility for their shit tier game play, maybe we wouldn't hear about it as much.

Automated Riven2 votes

I second this. The more I play with the intent of learning to be better the more I can see and point to things I did wrong. It's actually really nice cause I can always at least have an uderstanding of what I am doing wrong.

FourVsFive4 votes

Auto fill a problem because each role requires different knowledge and skill sets. With different game play. And to master all is not easy unless u play 8 hours a day.

General Esdeath 4 votes

Autofill is a problem not because you play support but you play any role (or get someone playing any role) you're not familiar with and get outclassed. Not to mention the salty "I DON'T WANT TO SUPPORT" kids who take their mid pick like Lissandra, Gragas, Kassadin in support.

Lauchmelder8 votes

Gragas support's not even bad...

It is when he takes item 3301 and just sits under our tower trying to poke with Q and has no idea what aitem 2049 is

my friend (were in bronze so yeah) does it sometimes. It actually works surprisingly well. but maybe because he's a level 6 or 7 ex gragas main

apparently, Gragas support is more viable than Yasuo mid based on the number of mastery lv7 yasuos i see feeding all game

DrCyanide2 votes

It use to see LCS play back in session 4 or 5, they just moved on to different picks. I don't think Gragas has changed enough to become unplayable in the position by any means.

dapositiveviking1 votes

gragas support used to be picked up as a way to keep the other team from getting him for the jungle

people need a scapegoat to blame a lose on. when you're auto filled you can just balme that not your actual skill

NineTailedMystic4 votes

Let me play a role I don't play, with a champion I don't play, as the same skill level as my peers. Yea, ok.

i remember the days when you had to know all roles and atleast 1 champ in said roles before doing ranked was a good idea and people would blame you for your lack of game knowledge and not the system. well they did blame the system for getting paired with you but thats besides the point.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

That never happened. People just said "X or feed/X or troll" and not complain about Autofill since it didn't exist. Even then people didn't play their off roles to their skill level, it was just higher. Ex: Someone plays Support at a Silver level now, instead of a Gold level before, when their main role is a Plat level.

Takazaki1 votes

no, they didn't. there were people that acutally said and did x or feed, but that wasn't the majority of the player base and literally everyone hated them for it.

and if your off role is 2 whole division lower then your normal gameplay ( which imo is impossible because game knowlage is universal to all roles ) then your probably didn't practice it or.

Those days were a myth. People just kept saying that on the boards and reddit but pretty much nobody followed it(because they didn't need to).

Have seen plenty of people reach high ranks while only being good in 1-2 roles and being decent in 2-1 other roles.

Takazaki1 votes

one tricks had a high winrate with their main so even if they were forced support ( which did happen ) it wouldnt mater if they lost the game.

so something like auto fill doesnt even effect those plays.

Ah O Yeah Harder4 votes

Ill tell you why from a used to be Diamond 3's perspective.

  1. Auto-Fill for 1 makes smurfing a pain.
  2. When you reach Diamond+, a lot of your games are depended by who has the autofilled Jungler/Adc/Support against a team that mains every role theyre playing.
  3. When you go from a game of top lane, then to support, then back to top, you are worse at farming for that game (only happens to some people).
  4. For me, I am a bad support. I have played over 40 games as an autofilled support across all my accounts, and we always lose bot lane.
  5. Bot lane is what determines 76% of games (according to statistics).
TotalJerk5 votes

I can understand most of that, but fuck smurfs. Nothing in this game whatsoever should cater to them.

Ah O Yeah Harder1 votes

Yes but if it makes smurfing a pain, that means the longer it takes for the smurfs to rank up to their actual league. Thus the smurfs have to ruin more games in low elo.

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Or maybe it should be seen as incentive to stop smurfing?

Matchmaker has gotten better in terms of getting people the role they play. People rarely complain about their role or ask to switch roles nowadays. When I que jungle primary & support seconday I get jungle the majority of the time, and rarely ever get autofilled into a role that isn't jungle or support.

On the downside, the matchmaker has gotten even worse at keeping an equal skill-level between both teams. This season blow-out games are much more common; so it's obvious that one team is much more skilled than the other team. When you're on the losing end of a blow out game, there is very little you can do to win, but sometimes you can prolong the game. If you happen to be on the winning side, you can afk and your team still might win.

Takazaki1 votes

actually the reason why games seem like such a blow out, is because of the early game meta.

it isnt the match maker. people seem way more skilled when the whole team is up 2 kills each. but thats easily cause by a jungler / mid laner going crazy

The Deckowner3 votes

A couple weeks ago, out of curiosity, I played about 20~30 games of primary fill games, it was about 90% support, 5% adc and 5% top and jg.

DrCyanide1 votes

I've been recording my Blind Pick fill games, and over 134 lobbies (counted dodges) 34.33% are Support. You're 2-3 times as likely to get Support in Draft as Fill than you are in Blind Pick.

I would like to see someone do fill in Draft mode about that many times to compare, since Draft mode isn't my cup of tea.

The Deckowner1 votes

Fill has a higher chance of giving you support than support primary, it is just that bad.

Troll for Trump2 votes

TFW you get autofilled into support and have more fun than in your main role.

It feels like a nice break sometimes.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

Yeah, Riot has probably done some toolwork under the hood to help ensure people get the roles they want, especially for support secondary and fill players. I'm very satisfied with the current matchmaking system.

PrinceOfStorms1 votes

Except you will always get autofilled if someone dodges at the end of the lobby and you don't have autofill protection.

Easily avoided, just cancel queue after a dodge and queue up again in 30 seconds.

LegendmakerGX1 votes

Well this is a dumb question and I don't mean to be mean but you are silver tier kitten which I'm not making fun of you but in the silver tier there is practically 50-60% of the player base that elo and tier so you will never be short of players who doesn't want a certain role like support. When you get to platinum and diamond which is where the players are complaining is where people have to auto fill and the auto fill is quite stupid, I play all roles except for ADC since I don't practice ADC to a diamond tier standard but sometimes it puts me in ADC over support which as a support I have experience in.

Leetri2 votes

Silver is like 38% I believe, Bronze is about 32%.

Takazaki2 votes

so what about the 10+ minute Q times that silver see both this and last session

Remember match making is more then just rank

mmr is a factor.

It's extremely rare to have happen. OP got support in 1/29 games, and had it as a secondary. That's about a 3% chance.

5/30 is 1/6. In one in six games, one person on a team will be autofilled. And you most often get to swap lanes.

Fair point. But I, among many others, have had the same experiences. I typically queue as mid/top. Rarely autofilled.

Wyrmblade1 votes

I have better winrates with support than my favorite roles.

6Sfool1 votes

Same situation here. I'm queuing for Jg/supp and have been getting entirely jungle. I can't be sure if that is due to recent trends or a job by Riot. Hopefully it's due to a better algorithm and Riot isn't forcing players into autofill just to give me my primary more often.
