Thank You Riot for Support item changes.

Playing well as a support often means intentionally foregoing actions that grant gold or experience - the two things that generally make people stronger in League. In the past we gave supports their own unique items to prop up their lower gold income, but that led to problems (and subsequent nerfs) when other positions found ways to abuse them. This time around, we’re cutting out gold and experience as middlemen and directly rewarding supports with powerful benefits for mastering the gameplay of their items.

These quests share the same structure. After earning enough gold with your support item’s unique passive, it’ll evolve to grant a new effect: ** Ancient Coin line***: Gain an elixir that instantly grants a skill point when consumed (you still have a max of 18 skill points per game, meaning you’ll finish leveling your abilities at level 17). Takedowns on enemy champions grant gold and restore mana.

Relic Shield line: Gain a shield that regenerates out of combat Spellthief’s Edge line: Tribute procs grant a burst of movement speed

*Ancient Coin’s existing passive - being near a minion when it dies - is pretty boring and offers nothing to build a quest around. So, we’re redesigning it. Nearby enemy minions occasionally drop coins when killed by anyone other than you, either restoring mana or granting gold on pick-up. (After one coin type has spawned, the next is guaranteed to be the other type.) Collect these coins to complete your quest.

This is quite honestly amazing. These have been suggestions pushed by the player base on these very forums for a long while now and just wanted to highlight how Riot genuinely DOES listen to us and take our feedback into consideration. So this is mostly both as a congratulation to everyone pushing these ideas to begin with and a thank you to Riot for being so receptive.

Yep, I think this is a step in the right direction. I'm excited to test them out and I'm glad that Riot is pushing support agenda even on the "tank update" for mid-season. It's the right move.

Riot has pushed Support agenda on every major Class update excluding the Juggernaut one. Support issues are so big and prevalent that Riot simply cant leave them to be ignored at any given point where they are doing big changes. Hell the Assassin update is how w got Redemption and locket changes, remember? ;D

Yeah, that's true.

I think that's as it should be. It sounds like you agree.

I'm kind of bias since i'm a support player, but the role has enough issues that i can't justify them not doing so. it is easily the biggest issue in the game and should be addressed the most tbqh.

Well, of course support players are gonna be biased, but that bias isn't inherently bad.

The data backs us up on this. If it were as fun as the other roles, on average for the typical player, we wouldn't need autofill.

Hopefully, after the Diver class update(they are most likely next, due to being the other contender for midseason) we can get a support update. Even if they just focus on itemization it would be a boon.

It's still at least a year off though... [zombie-nunu-bummed]

I'm absolutely in love with these new support items. I might even start playing supports that aren't just tank supports because I'm best with them and I'm just going to get eye anyway.

This is a step in the right direction for support items, even if I'm a little skeptical of the Ancient Coin quest reward (gaining an extra skill point isn't exactly a terribly impactful effect in the mid to late game, particularly on a class that isn't meant to be experience-dependent in the first place). My fear, though, is that balancing supports even further around being starved of gold and XP is simply going to isolate them even more to a duo bot lane, and make them either too weak or unhealthy if they step out of that very specific environment. Giving supports cooler rewards for playing well is neat, forcing supports as a class to stick to only a tiny subset of potential positions, when doing so has been proven to be majorly unhealthy in every previous case, is likely to generate more long-term issues.
