New Ranked System

First off this is not about placements or a rank given after palcements, this is about the new system. And I apologize if this post is a repeat of others but idk...because I havn't looked through any posts since this season started.

To me.....this new system... in MY OPINION...just is not satisfying. It feels like the worst decision since Dynamic Que. I dont understand why this change was made or who would even want this change? I don't care what rank I am at a certain role.....I care what my rank is over all my gameplay no matter what role I was. So far I've only finished placements in 1 role......but its like to me it just feels like a waste of time bouncing around between roles now.

Now add that feeling with experiences like a game from earlier...... where this person literally didnt care....just started trolling....even said " idc its not my main role, i just want this game to be over." Like is this what we are going to have to deal with when people dont get their main role?

Why was this change needed? Who was asking for it?

I understand some people might like this even though I dont see why anyone would.

Ranked was the only game mode I ever play and now it just seems like a waste to play ranked. I liked the competitiveness of trying to rank up as high as i could, not as high as i could in a particular role. Having the ranks separated by roles to me is not a true representation of your rank for this game. I feel better off just not playing ranked and just playing strictly for fun in ARAM or one of the other game modes.

I have not been on the boards for years but I had to to comment on this ranked. 5 times the pain of placements and promos. Plus. this splash crap means I got to 100 LP on another role but.... I don't get promos. Oh no, I have to WIN A GAME WHEN I AM ALREADY AT 100 LP then I get promos. Worst. Change. Ever.

Personally as a jungler, I very much like the changes. I suck at laning in general, so if I get put into a laning role, it's nice knowing my performance in the role will not affect my jungle rank near as much. Basically the exact opposite mindset of you. Good job Riot!****

are you dumb? so you rather waste 30m+ min as autofill, and when you do win you get like 4 points. rather than waiting for jungle for a decent time and then getting the LP? jesus fucking christ.

I agree with you 100%, as a jg main I am good at my role, but anything where I need to account for other things hitting my creeps, well I can't handle it. Plus I do like playing other roles, so great addition! RIP its gone tho

Position ranks aren’t about knowing what your skill is in other roles; it’s about matchmaking. Say you’re a gold top and an iron jungle. You don’t want to be put in a game full of golds if you suck at or are new to jungle. However, let’s say you also want to get better at playing jungle, so you want to practice in a Ranked environment. Therefore, the best solution would be for you to be placed among players who are of a similar skill level. You also probably want your rank to represent your true skill, and if you are amazing at top, why should you let your lackluster jungling drag you down?

I’m not saying it should’ve been implemented, but you seem to have completely missed the point of the change.

Also, it would be fine if you were just coming here to tell Riot what to fix. However, calling it straight-up horrible is out of the question. It’s barely been a week; people are still adjusting and will be for some time. I don’t think anybody is in any position to make final judgements. We need to wait a while, like a month and a half, maybe two. Again, I don’t care if you want to offer critiques or feedback, but when you make a post like this, you get people riled up for no reason.

IDK,.... some people just feel differently about it. I understand that there are 1 tricks or 1 role tricks. But as someone who has been playing since season 3 and ranked since season 4. I come from a time when in order to play ranked you was forced to learn every role because you didnt know what you was going to end up with. It all came down to who could type the role they wanted 1st. So while now days I play more Zyra than anything, im okay with having to play something else when needed. Or another role when needed and accept the outcome however it impacts my rank. And like I said in another post...... The highest rank I have ever been was Gold 4.......even if I reached plat or diamond in this new system it wouldnt even feel the same and I wouldnt accept it as my true rank.

I like new ranked. Even if people troll intentionally it gets them demoted out of my games quickly.

Maybe it’s shit for the lower tiers but for diamond the garbage has mostly already been demoted out.

If you like the old system so much just get to master tier.

Ya realize that if you get demoted from Master Tier after getting there, the same system comes back right? It doesn't magically promote all your tiers to Diamond/Master forever?

Also, it's stupid to rank up with all the glaring issues this ranked system introduces. If you were previously Masters, you probably got put into Plat or even Diamond after the placements. You pretty much skipped most of the issues. You also play Mordekaiser, a relatively uncommon champion that I'm sure you main with many people not knowing how to play around him properly. I'm not surprised you're Diamond+

honestly this system makes no sense for fill players like way to make ques longer cause no one is going to fill if they have to rank up each role one by one

New ranked system is fucking lame. I like playing jungle in the lower elo until plat. Then switch to support. Now I have to play 1 role entire time. So boring Riot,. Slowly killing the fun in this game.

Ignoring splashing entirely It's easy to level up multiple roles at once. Additionally, I don't think you grinding and practicing a role until plat and then suddenly switching roles is doing your teammates any favors. I highly doubt you can perform the same in the support role after just switching over as someone who mains support climbing to that same position. They'll have more practice and experience than you.

Forcing people to play a role they dont like is just bad design. Most people are uncomfortable even when they are forced to play different champion, the entire role is too bad.

I would like to use this thread to propose a change that might make the current system satisfying, instead of ranking people by the roles like mid/top/jg why not rank people by the champion roles based on champion class AND your actual performance in the game.

  1. DMG done-Gives a lot more LP to marksmen/assasin and mage class. Gives bruiser/fighter role moderate LP as well.

  2. DMG taken- Affects mostly tanks/fighters.

  3. Wards placed/Vision score-affects all roles, but gives a bit more to the support class.

  4. CC/Healing and Shielding - tanks and supports get more LP, mages get moderate amount of LP.

This way people can play any lane they want and rank up even in other classes simply by changeing their repertoir a bit. Oh I want to get a bit of LP into marksmen? I guess corki Mid or Lucian mid might help me. I am bad at support role? I will pick Ori mid and ward like crazy to level up!

You would not get any LP for a loss just like you wouldnt regularly, meaning people would still have to pick meta things.

People who git filled were asking for it. Having differnet elo and MMR depending on your role is important because that's how you are as a player. A god tier zed in the mid lane is probably ass as a support. The best Alistar in the NA is probably going to struggle in the mid lane. This way, instead of getting auto-filled or practicing an off role and getting stuck against someone who is as good or better than you in your main role, you get placed up against someone who is closer to what you actually are in that off role, in theory anyway.

I understand exactly how it works. Its just stupid. Part of getting better at anything is learning how to adapt to it...not have the game adapt to the player.

Im pretty sure if a poll was ran, the majority of people would want their rank represented by their total game play....not just a rank for each role.

Throughout my time playing I've pretty much moved around and spammed every role except ADC. While I dont que up for top or jungle anymore...i have at least 2 champs im comfortable in using if i have to.

My highest rank ever was Gold 4....thats with wins and losses from entire game play. I qued up mid with secondary support. With the way this system is now If I got plat or even to diamond in either of those 2 roles it wouldnt even feel the say , would be MEH at best.

If you're god tier in anything you won't be ass in something else. You won't be "god tier", but you won't be ass either. To imply that, for example, Faker couldn't do at the very least above average in another role is pure crazy. Sure, he might not be AS great as he can be in the mid lane, but he will only fall off so much skill, mechanic, game knowledge wise. I would dare say someone one tricking to grandmaster could still hold his own in high plat. For example, Heizman. Guy does other roles in high elo, but its obvious who his main champ and even role is. Even when he gets mid he still makes things happen due to his game knowledge. He won't be AS impactful but he still makes a difference.

I feel you. It's full on cheapened the ranks for me even more. Getting Gold or plat used to mean you got gud at the game across the board. Now you can be a Diamond Top but an Iron Bot. So that makes you what? A Gold tier over all? Why not just have normal ranks and let people que as whatever?

The only people that wanted position ranking are the true one tricks that find one tiny niche, and refuse to learn everything like so many before them. It's welfare ranking at it's finest and it disgusts me RitoTencent allowed it through.

The digital equivalent of a Participation Award... get absolutely rekt with this bull, RitoTencent.

It means that you are a diamond top and an iron bot.

Where does the confusion come in?

If you spend your time grinding top and getting good with top lane champions, and that is where your skill and experience lies, you aren't going to perform anywhere near as well in the bot lane.

This is assuming that you can even get to Diamond in the top lane and still be Iron in the bot lane with splashing which I doubt you can. The reset put me at about a division lower across all of my roles, so unless you were bronze last season you shouldn't be Iron in any role. If you don't play bot, this shouldn't be an issue anyway. Your armor and profile will still display platinum, but if you get auto-filled or decide to practice another role you aren't as likely to be pimp slapped by some 1000 game god tier one trick in that role. In other words, you'll have a better time in your off roles and you wont be as much of a dead weight to your team either.

People like you say this stuff every year, and there has always been an explanation from both riot and other players. Stop saying you 'don't know how it works', and maybe read a /dev or patch notes from time to time...

This is not true. The Ranked system hasn't made proper sense for a while, but the previous one made more sense than this one. I was G5 last season with MMR fluctuating around S2 to G5 -- it should in no way have put my placement starter division at S4. That's a whole 4 divisions down from the maximum. If I won all 8 placement games, I wouldn't have even hit my old rank I believe. That's obscene.

It's really not that bad. Most of the arguments against the new system seem to be strawmen erected by smooth-brains. I'm seeing alot of foul language and random anger and not a lot of actual critical criticism.

The Concept is sound. The issue is Autofill. Riot is trying to fix autofill when it is what is hurting Ranked. All because Riot thinks Players wont wait 5-10m in a Queue.

I would wait 30m to get a even matched game. 100% better then playing 30m of a shit game.

The issue is is that most players won't wait for a 30 minute que time, especially when some matches are over in as little as 15 minutes.
