Why 7 Seconds?

Woodakoodashooda··15 votes·6,002 views

I don't recall the last time a fight between champions lasted as long as 5 seconds. It's always a cluster of "wtf just happened?". Fights between champions don't last this long. Chasing an enemy down to kill them might last that long or longer, but that's not really a fight. That's just trying to mow down some straggler.

I can imagine how this ult is actually going to be used because 7 seconds in league time is twice the duration of eternity. Morde won't have to build AP or AS or Bruiser.

No, because he has 7 seconds to remove an enemy from the equation, all he has to do is survive them for however long it takes his team to take care of the rest. He's going to be built tank, a very tanky tank, because his kit allows it. It won't matter if the carry survives. All that matters is that Morde singled out a problem and neutralized it so that his team could take a turret or a dragon or a baron etc.

Everyone is crying about how Morde is going to have this power to obliterate some squishy, but why does he need to be bothered with that? He's not an assassin. That's not his job. He's a bruiser. All he has to do is survive and bruisers are good at keeping their health above half full in 1v1's.

His ultimate will prove boring, his ultimate will prove irritating, his ultimate will prove unhealthy for game play in a team based game, and Riot will likely realize that they made another mistake as players proceed to play Mordekaiser in a way they didn't intend.

Riot, you're not making a duelist. You've turned that asshole coach in professional ball games into a champion. The one that instructs his team to stall out the clock rather than play ball in a sportsmanlike manner.

i think it's a great ability with great highs and great lows just like an ability should be

you are thinking that an ally gets taken out of the fight but you have to understand that morde as well leaves the fight

0 Hogapu6 votes

people will just play him supp, full tank. and he will negate completely an ennemy (most of the time, a carry) so it will always be a worth trade, as the ennemy team will lose more than morde's

Saezio8 votes

Yeah he will have real great lane phase. Also, if he singles out a carry with support budget it will take the carry less than 3 seconds to oneshot morde.

You lack imagination. You don't even need to buy stopwatch. You can just automatically have it at 6 mins. Boom stalls out the fight for AT LEAST 3 seconds. Then 3 secs to oneshot. That's stalled enough to lose a fight.

Saezio5 votes

For 1 fight one time. Also, the bot lane will have no pressure with a morde that exists just to stall the enemy carry from entering the fight.

You are also saving the carry if you misplay. And if it is a cleanup carry like vayne/irelia/yi for example you are just making sure you lose the fight.

IF YOU MISPLAY. The counterplay is if you misplay. That's pretty garbo. It's not one fight. It literally builds into a Zhonya's. Which you can use indefinitely. I also disagree with your first statement. You ult the carry. Fight the carry for approximately 7 secs if you stall the fight. Enemy support doesn't have stall items. Dies to ADC. Bot lane now 2v1 after Morde ult. Bot now has priority.

Let's think about this. Enemy team taking baron. Morde ults enemy jg. Your jg smites. Same with dragon. I dunno. It's pretty strong. Too many applications that don't offer enough counterplay. That's why Akali's w doing stealth under towers was too strong. Not enough counterplay. We'll see a lot of the same issues here. Not enough counterplay.

He does seem to have sustain and a nice semi hook on his E. With good enough base stats he can definitely be a support if u ask me

Saezio1 votes

He might have sustain but seems like the "hook" is extremely slow and requires some other setup first. We will obviously have to wait and see the champion in action but the champ I feel he resembles the most is Swain and swain is definitely bad for support.

Pyke has insane sustain to be able to function as a melee damage oriented support for example. Idk, it's not like a galio who has insane CC and innate tankiness so it's risky to poke him a lot, I feel like Morde support will be like a sitting duck vs too many picks.

There are plenty of champions that already work on the "take out enemy carry out of the fight then be useless/die" and they work just fine. But Mord will be able to do it reliably.

i doubt it

ulting the enemy carry might just mean you kill yourself instead if you've never fought an adc that isn't threatened to be 1 shot you would understand how ulting the enemy adc is a bad idea

best targets would be the jungler during objectives and supports during team fights to make the enemy adc more vulnerable to dive

iPogoZ1 votes

I mean depends how you build, i can see people building bruiser with like a proto and being able to easily 1v1 enemy adc till super late game.

Yes. But Morde chooses who else gets taken out of the fight. So, he’s going to chose the highest threat on the enemy team. We’ll use the example of, eh. A 22/2 yasuo. Pretty big threat. Morde is going to select him to be. Ahem. Voluntarily removed from the fight.

Now I hear you asking. “But thigh guy, won’t he just be annihilated by this super fed yasuo and get back into the fight anyway?”

And the answer to that is. No. Because he has hybrid scalings. So the first item he will grab is very likely to be a Zhonya’s hourglass. This will give him a guaranteed 2.5 seconds of holding this super fed carry. Next item will be the oh so special guardian angel. This will give him an additional 3 seconds (I think) holding this yasuo out of the fight. Now he just has to survive an additional 1.5 seconds to use the entire duration of his ult which is actually a pretty big feat in itself. Not to mention this Morde has 130% effective hp with the ga not accounting for resistances.

congratz you can do that once every 5 minutes and now yasuo can easily finish your team off since your team will be weakened and yasuo will be full hp and with stacked conq congratz even in the once every 5 minutes uber play you lost your team the fight

If your team is that far behind the game is lost no matter what you do sooooo your point is irrelevant.

how the hell do you assume theres a fat carry but somehow assume its only him being ahead

and frankly even if he was the only one ahead your team most likely will have their cds down when he is out, have their hp/mana low or down multi members .

so assuming your team somehow to fully wipe the enemy team without using cd/hp/mana/ or their lifes is just a big imaginary dream

So let me get this straight. You are actually about to argue that a 7 second malzahaar ultimate, that can’t be qss off, isn’t going to be good?

hrooza dota 1 votes

nice change of subjects ... you totally avoided what you were talking about to compare it to a random ultimate

anyway i will answer that random malz comparison

malzahaar allow you to kill that carry not only stop him from killing your team, their team cant just disengage either until the carry is back because he will be dead if team does not stop malz

and frankly no body is saying mordekaiser ultimate is bad we are saying the support mordecaiser with only stall items wont be that good

i think morde ultimate will be broken as fuck but not that way, taking an enemy support so your assassin kills their carry with peels, taking the enemy jungler in baron/dragon fights so you can flame your jungler for losing the 100/0 ect ect, theres tons of shit you can do with it.

iPogoZ1 votes

I mean there is like no counter play. Also just imagine some of the uses, its perfect for piking off champions and it could completely deny steal attempts. Like your team starts baron, when it gets down to half hp just ult jungler and shread it.

"You're going nowhere. I got you for 7 seconds. 7 seconds of playtime. Mordekaiser is ready!" - Mordekaiser "Yeah, kick her spider-ass!" - Karthus "Hello guys? This is some kind of mistake. I didn't sign up for a cage match." - Elise

i feel like this is just a boards exaggeration. fights usually last well past this, as long as it isn't 50 to 10 kills. it also depends on who you are and what you're fighting, a fight with Lux is going to be much quicker than Illaoi

Yea some fights are drawn out but there is so much burst right now that a teamfight can last like 2 seconds of bursting a carry or 2. Also have you never fought against a fed illaoi who flash ults into 5 people and instantly wins the fight.

Let's get something straight. This type of gameplay should be encouraged not discouraged. People in league, especially after the shit show of last year want everything to be about the fighting and about the aggresive play.

Smart play, beating your enemy through denial rather than fighting, stalling out games, etc. These types of play should be much more highly rewarding than they are in the current version of the game.

sinZsoul2 votes

The big reason I disagree with this is because we actually already have a mechanic with a similar result already in the game. Poppy ult can essentially take someone or even more out of the fight for 7+ seconds yet she's not considered op. The fact is that people tend to run away when they have a numbers disadvantage and then reengage.

You could build a cheese composition where you try to separate the opposing team and kill one half, but currently it's not like a really big thing and Morde doesn't make that comp any bit better.

Sir Saltarin1 votes

The main key will be how easy is for him to cast the ultimate onto someome

ZaFishbone1 votes

They should make it so that the enemy gets the buff if he wins. That way, if a carry is REALLY fed, Morde won't be able to afford to take them into a duel to lightly.

iPogoZ1 votes

Its 7 seconds because hextech ultimatum wasn't long enough to completely remove all hope that riot carres about adc players actually being able to play the game.

Jinzo Torrance1 votes

You can QSS new Morde ultimate. Malz doesn't build tank even though his kit is only played for his 3 utility spells (Shield, Silence, Ult) just because QSS exists and would render a tank focused build useless, they will also act as sandbags in any fight that's not a 5v5 since they provide virtually 0 damage and solely single target CC.

Hvsao1 votes

I'm pretty sure his ult is more utility then anything. The zone range is huge, so you can just avoid fighting Morde. The real benefit is pulling away a enemy champion holding your team back, or someone weak enough to execute.

Vore Me Mommy1 votes

My concern with his ult is that he can be 0/8/0 and make the enemy 10/0 carry worth the same in a teamfight. He ults the carry, uses zhonyas, uses stopwatch, then they both come back after the main fight is over. As long as morde's team won the 4v4 (good chance bc enemy doesn't have their carry), his team can jump on the carry with a numbers advantage.

CØRKI BíÑ LÄDÉÑ1 votes

Shut your ass pussyboy, you've just seen the abilities review and jumped to the boards to complain, the rework hasn't even been on the pbe ffs and you are moaning about it, even before playing it. Oh and in my honest opinion they did fck up, cuz you know what, they made morde the epitome of death, and since he "challenges" an enemy to his realm (during his ult) well you know what, they should have made him invulnerable, nor being susceptible to any form of crowd control.

DevourerOfHP1 votes

I am just a casual player But i think it will depend on its range If its short ranged He will have a hard time getting the adc Also they could give him Low base damage but high scaling So he doesn't just go tank

KFCeytron1 votes

I agree. 7 seconds is too much. It should last 6.66 seconds.

LordGeovanni1 votes

thats exactly why its that long so that morde mains can have their power fantasy as they get treated like riven mains but riot doesnt actually want to fix the bugs on the champ cause that takes effort. while yoricks power fantasy gets dumpstered all over both the ghouls summoning part and the grave digger part
