A word about the Vi changes

They're obviously trying to push people away from playing like she's an assassin when they don't even usually build like one.

While her initial burst will be nerfed, her clear is getting buffed, her sustain is getting buffed, and she'll be better suited not only to items she already buys like Trinity Force and Sterak's, but to other Attack Speed items as well. The changes to her E especially make it so she'll be able to take the place of other late-game hypercarries by building Guinsoo's and some Crit. Though she won't be quite as strong as they are late game, she has the benefit of a much more powerful early game thanks to her strong ganking.

And do keep in mind, Riot's stated goal with these changes is for "the overall outcome [to] be a stronger and more impactful Vi." So if it turns out that she's worse off, they'll adjust her accordingly. If these changes were intended as nerfs, there'd be cause for worry. But they aren't.

In another thread, I typed up a comment with the actual numbers, so this is pasted from my comment on there. It proves that the Q change was in fact a massive buff to her clear, not a nerf, as well as the W change outweighing her lost AS per level:

First, both the spells having their ratios nerfed scale Bonus AD, which means that even at level 18 with a full build item 1400 item 3078 item 3053 item 3026 item 3742 item 3047 which for Vi only includes 192 total bonus AD, the spells lost only 58 and 38 damage, respectively.

Which in actuality, because the only lethality she has is Sudden Impact, was a loss of only 36 and 24 damage against the enemy with the lowest base armor in the game at level 18. Prior to that point though, the amount lost is less and less depending on both your level (with Sterak's), your point in the build, and the armor of literally everyone else in the game.

Definitely not enough to consider it a huge nerf. Especially, and most importantly, considering the fact it now no longer deals reduced damage to non-champions, which means a 41 damage increase at max charge rank 1, and the 2 damage she "lost" from scaling is actually completely negated by that buff as well. This may in fact turn out to be way too strong of a buff to her clear speed, especially if she continues to focus Q.

You also act like losing 0.5% AS per level outweighs the 2.5/5/7.5/10% buff to her W, which even at level 18 the passive growth lost is only 8.5% total, compared to the 10% buff. So that point is also wrong, especially seeing as the change makes it seem they want people to go back to focusing the W second.

The change to her R, which I didn't address, also increases its total damage output beyond the amount it's been nerfed since it, too, no longer deals 25% reduced damage to secondary targets.

I highly doubt she'd ever start to build crit, the amount of gold she'd have to spend on attack speed items with no AD would really suck. If she didn't build it before, getting the chance to deal an extra little bit of damage to secondary targets isn't going to incentivize it any more.

Agreed, this change looked really gimicky and I can't imagine that Vi will get any crit items as long as it isn't a game she totally stomps already and just does it for fun oneshots.

I'm honestly more worried about ap vi being the next ap shyvanna than vi being underpowered. They will buff vi again if the changes are off base, just a question of which build is on top when the dust settles.

She doesn't have the AP scaling to do it with her E alone, but I don't doubt she'll be able to buy Guinsoo's very effectively, since it will now drastically increase the rate at which she regains her shield.

Not only that, but it speeds up her ability to take dragons and other objectives by quite a bit. I haven't tried it, but with the 73% attack speed and every other attack reducing your shield cooldown, she might be able to solo dragon very early on.

At the point in the game when you were able to buy item 3124 you had been able to solo dragon a long time before anyway.

I play some Vi and you were basically able to solo it already when you had a item 3057 before these changes.
