With Ekko included, we have now had 7 champions in a row with some form of dash or blink

Visigoth··112 votes·6,185 views

Last one without ANY form of dash or blink was Velkoz. Funny enough, of the last 10 champions released, he's probably the least played. Before Vel'Koz, we skip Yasuo and Jinx is the next one. Than after her we skip all the way down to Thresh, who has basically everything except a dash.

This mobility creep is getting fucking retarded. They should've stopped before they reached the point where a champion dashes every fucking auto attack Kalista.

By the way, of the last 20 championso only Velkoz Jinx Thresh and Nami have no form of dash. But this isn't the League of Mobility.

You missed Bard. I know no one plays him and so people tend to forget he exists, but he doesn't have a dash.

He has an ability that can allow people (including himself) to pass through terrain, and it can be used to move around a bit, but it's not a dash.

What this guy said here.

I like how OP conveniently forgets the champion that JUST came out that negates the entire point of this post.

I wouldn't say it negates the entire point of this post, though.

He kinda does tho. Magical Journey is kinda like a dash in that he can use it, go through it, and if you follow, he can just q the entrance as you come out. It IS essentially the mechanics of the dash in that it allows him to get away or close in.

Decrit5 votes

Actually is far different from dashing: it does not transport you only from A to B, but it does it slowly ( compared to a dash) and while still leaving you targetable and predictable. It even allows enemies to pass on it, even if i never found that advisable...

It' s more like agnostic movement, so.

AbiwonKenabi5 votes

If he doesn't count Thresh's mobility as a "dash" then why should we count Bard's? It is much more situational.

NinjaFifer2 votes

His magical journey gives his whole team and possibly the enemy team a dash over one wall. Sure, he may not have a dash himself, but he's not helping the problem.

  • Has plenty of opportunities to significantly speed himself up
  • Has an ult that completely stops whatever he wants (literally)
  • Has an ability that makes him completely ignore terrain altogether
  • Oh, and a stun

Not saying he is op by stating those things, just that, sure the word "dash" isn't in there, but he pretty much proves mobility creep just with his intended roaming play style. A support that has abilities that speed him up, passively has chimes that speed him up in the jungle, has an ability that makes him ignore terrain, etc. He has a butt ton of mobility, which proves the OP's point about mobility creep, he just directly referenced dashes.

It is like saying Thresh doesn't have a knock up that works with Yasuo, except his flay still counts for the ability. It doesn't matter how you phrase it, it is still true :P

Thresh DOES have a dash on his Death Sentence. It's target restricted, but it's there.

IcyPepper8 votes

It's more of a gap closer, to be honest. And highly skillshot dependent on a skill that honestly isn't the easiest to land. And a long-ass cooldown.

It's not exactly what most people mean by dash.

Delioth30 votes

But it's still technically a targeted dash when you use the second one- it's exactly like Lee Sin's Q-Q. Hit skillshot for one thing, reactivate for a dash.

Kouga3 votes

Yes but when people whine about Lee's mobility they are usually referring to him ward hopping with a short CD dash

mobility such as dashes are for engages, and escapes, if your low health and running for your life, pulling a jungle camp might be deadly

His lantern is a glorified giant gap closer for your ally as well.

Most of the dashes are pretty conditional though Bard can only "dash" through walls. If you are standing in mid lane, and you want to close a gap or open one. Well tough toe nails. RekSai Has to be in the non-fighting burrowed mode, and the dash has a relatively slow travel time. The global dash only works on set up structures and can be easily disrupted. The global dash also has a global sound effect. Kalista Must perform an auto attack or use her Q to force a very low range dash to occur. The cooldown is basically her attack speed. Azir If this dude has no soldiers (like he uses them to damage a turret for example), he has no dashes. The dash can be intercepted by standing in his path. Gnar Has a solid non-conditional dash. Both forms are nice. Braum can only dash to allied champions or minions. Unlike Lee sin, he cannot use his dash on wards and the range is relatively low. Velkoz has no dashes Yasuo targetted dashes that only work on enemies. This means he has no escape unless there is a non-threatening enemy that he may dash to. The dash is unique to standard dashes in that it may be disrupted by stuns (whereas every other dash can only be interupted by airbornes). Also has a blink that only works on airborne enemy targets. Aatrox non-conditional dash. Can easily be interrupted due to long cast animation. Zac needs to be charged to gain meaningful range. Jinx no dashes. Lots of movement speed, but only on champion kill/tower kill. Zed non-conditional blinks. One is targeted (with a .75 second untargetability delay and is enemy cast only) the other, free target cast has a relatively low range (can't pass though certain walls) Nami has no dashes. Movement speed boosts everywhere, but nothing significant. Elise 2 dashes, both are enemy targetted only. 1 is long range and has a long animation, the other is short range and is also a big nuke. Thresh 1 dash on a skillshot enemy target only. Can also pull allies with lantern. Vi 1 dash that requires a charge up to gain meaningful, wall bypassing range. The other is an unconditional dash that is also a knockup that is her ultimate.

Champion Skin2 votes

With Aatrox it isn't just that his dash has a long animation... it is also the fact that he needs to finish most of the animation before he even moves...

Preemptive tl:dr - Mobility creep in the current 20 champs is 90% of champs - Previous 20 before, 60% mobility (champs that have dashes, dives, jumps, etc). Read for context

If you compare the last 20 champs to say, the 20 before that, it looks pretty obvious that mobility creep went from some champs to all but 1 in 20 (with two that are on the fence)

If we include the new champ in the 20, all 20 but 1 (Vel) have some form of mobility and 2 are barely counting (Braum and Jinx), some more than others in the form of actual dashes.

In the previous 20, the ones that have mobility

  • Kha
  • Rengar
  • Diana (It relies on her ult, but will still count it for the sake of argument)
  • Hecarim
  • Lulu - she does have a decent speed boost
  • Fiora - Hard to argue, as the ability even has the word dash in the description
  • Ziggs - Gonna count Satchel Charge because I know someone will argue it otherwise
  • Sejuani - Does have a dash
  • Ahri - Yup
  • Voli - Sort of, a speed up, but it does get pretty significant at later levels, so counting it
  • Fizz
  • Shyvana - I wouldn't call it significant, but her ult works pretty well, and she does have a speed boost, and they are free, so that in noteworthy.

Champs that sort of ish have movement

  • Jayce - He gets a boost from changing forms that is trivial at best, and he does have a short range "dunk", so sort of
  • Draven - I guess this is in the...sort of category, if you want to count a meh 1.5 second speed up, but again, for sake of argument
  • Nautilus - This one is 50/50, but his anchor can grab walls, so...sort of?

In the previous 20, the ones that don't

  • Syndra
  • Zyra
  • Darius Nothing here really. He has a sort of pull, and can dunk but is basically melee range, so not counting any of that
  • Varus
  • Viktor

So, out of 20 champs currently, 1 has zero movement speed increasing abilities and 2 barely do, in Braum with dashing to allied champs/minions, and Jinx who only does with kills on towers/camps, and assists. In the previous 20, there were 5 that didn't, and 3 that only sort of count.

So we go from 12 out of 20 that do have mobility, to about 17 out of 20 (not 100% sold on Braum mobility, but I can see the argument for it, and Jinx' is a bit too circumstance dependant, so I can't really count it at all).

Either way, that is a significant jump. 60% up to (if we don't count Braum) 85% of champs. That seems pretty much like mobility creep and then some.

A 25% increase...

I play a lot of supports, and it is painful watching your team move away from you so fast you find it hard if not impossible to keep up. Only to see them begin to die while you're trying to catch up, and watching the enemy team chase them past you, only to mow over you as if you're an unwanted speed bump.... I have to laugh sometimes when I'm supporting a high mobility team. The increase in mobility seems to have increased the number of feeders too.

Slamurai Jack7 votes

Velkoz is still better than all those champs, so I'm not sure what your point is.

kunkudunk2 votes

Right? His poke is insane and his e-w-r combo decimates people. But people don't like skillshot mages I guess or something idk.

Hilltop Sunset6 votes

His E-W-R combo only takes away 1/10 of people's HP? D: He needs more AP then.

kunkudunk1 votes

Not what I said but if you must nit pick obliterates people. okay? I suppose the word is more fitting anyway.

Archlord Pie3 votes

It's funny how often I see people going after "decimate", yet "should of" and "could of" go completely ignored.

On Topic: It's pretty much impossible to land skillshots if your opponent can fly all over the screen at will, hence people not liking skillshot mages they can't do anything with.

Hilltop Sunset2 votes

"Could of" is one of my largest linguistic pet peeves, rest assured.

(For the record, it's supposed to be "could've," which is a non-traditional contraction of "could have" that phonetically can be confused with "could of" for anyone who isn't familiar with the issue.)

Riot genuinely gave up on proper balancing and are instead just trying to throw kits together that appear fun/interesting and then balancing after the fact. If only they had initially removed flash long ago...

Honestly, at this point they should remove flash and give a boots option to purchase that provides a blink effect that can only be purchased by champs who do not posses a flash, similar to machete/etc. smite only items.

Tis a nice day1 votes

Disagree with the proper balancing statement (they do at least make token efforts to maintain balance), but agree with the boots flash option.

Well, they keep falling into the trend of power/overloaded kits and then trying to balance around that, to the point we actually even see some champs losing functionality on abilities in worst case scenario to bring them in line. Then there is Kalista... It often ends up being a case of simply completely outclassing similar champs and the design is catered around being very effective in the current environment in some way which sucks since this leaves majority of the roster in the dust. I'm sure tournament play has some impact on this "because its cool" which makes sense to some degree, I just don't agree with how out of hand it is.

I am totally cool with the flash boot option but I do believe some summoners would have to be adjusted to make it not overwhelming since they would now have an extra summoner for survivability. It would certainly help champs like Galio and promote more interesting play strats since there would be more variety in summoners considering flash is takin almost 100% of the time.

demonsnake4204 votes

The win-rates for the past month would beg to differ. Granted win-rates aren't everything when it comes to measuring champion balance, it is one of the good tools for measuring a champion's relative strength. Jinx has consistently been in the top 10 win-rates across all regions and all elos for awhile now. Kalistia on the other hand, for most elos and regions, has had an average or lower win-rate. Now, we could debate about how toxic or annoying it is to play against a Kalistia versus Jinx; but that would be very subjective and wouldn't really having anything to do with the actual balance of said champions.

I like all the champs. I also love the Kalista's who rush hurricane and do no damage. It's fun being able to kill her mid instead first.

Lugg6 votes

The thing with Kalista getting hurricane early is that it allows her to farm very quickly, which gets her more gold, which gets her the items to wipe your team faster. Plus, with hurricane in teamfights and if she is hitting 3 people at a time, she is actually doing more total damage in the long run since she can rend 3 at once.

Fixed number of minions = same amount of gold no matter how fast you farm it. Just end up pushing lane, which could be good or bad

Apollocliptic6 votes

{quoted}

She can clear waves and return to team for teamfights much faster because of it. And pushing the lane under turret makes it harder for most enemies to farm, and if she is pushed under turret she has no problem securing all the minions, even with turret fire being there. Hurricane does equal more farm (though not by as much as suggested) but it is more important for the "control" it gives, farming plus poking, lane freezing, pushing, holding a position. Plus the AS gives makes her incredibly hard to catch quite early. Personally I prefer Btok then Hurricane, but usually by the time "most" build Hurricane the laning is over or at least one or two turrets down. So her ability to pop away, clear a wave then get back to the team (+ she has vision skills already) makes it very viable as an early item. Still, 2nd or 3rd is better, but it's not bad as first
