Rek'Sai Tunnels

Guy Fox Teemo··26 votes·27,043 views

WHy are Rek'Sai's tunnels visible to the enemy team even if they are in the fog war? This limits his ult use A LOT almost never will you be able to use it cause the enemy team can see them on the map even in the fog of war so no hiding one near drag or in a bush cause the enemy will just walk over and step on them. At least make it so you can't seem them in fog of war... Or the amount of times rek'sai will actually use his ult is like once a game.

First off: Her, not him. :P

Second, are they seriously visible in the fog of war? So you can see them anywhere AND they can be destroyed? Anti-bueno.

DUDE BRO7 votes

Yep. I tried counter jungling on the beta, their team saw my portals popping up in their jungle and came after me every time, pretty stupid.

Also, ally+enemy portals look identical on the minimap, so you don't even know whos is whos.

I'm sure it's just something that needs to be fixed.

kanacho2 votes

If that is the case, then the sneaky jungle ganking/stealing is not even possible... If it's OBVIOUS where you are just because you made tunnels that are visible in the fog of war, that ruins the ENTIRE POINT of the thing lol...

RiotMeddler18 votes

Intent is that the tunnels are visible through fog of war once you've seen them once. Goal there is to make it possible to hide tunnels for future use while also ensuring enemies are able to track tunnel locations once they've discovered them.

Sire Hippington22 votes

I don't think it's necesarry to have them marked once seen. If people can't remember where the tunnle was and don't sweep the map, it's their own fault. Going with that we could also make wards visible on the minimap if u see where they were placed...

RiotMeddler10 votes

For a long time in testing the tunnels were only visible on the minimap when you had direct sight of them. One of the problems we ran into at that point was that play testers were really struggling to shutdown Rek'Sai's movement. We really liked the sort of plays she was able to pull off with a large, well placed tunnel network however, so opted to make the tunnels a bit easier to track and potentially stomp rather than reducing tunnel lifespan, maximum number, distance etc.

ScarletRain4 votes

By that logic wards should remain on the minimap if you saw it being placed.

Also the cooldown on the ultimate for Rek'Sai is rather long for something you'll rarely use offensively. It feels more like something you use to catch back up or move around back to your jungle after a failed gank/backing

edit: totally replying to the wrong comment.

Sire Hippington2 votes

fair enough, need to test her some more, but i'm a bit worried that the tunnles are a bit to easy to shut down, atleast outside your own jungle, and that she'll snowball incredible hard in both direction with mapcontroll as it would be nearly impossible to sneak a tunnle in the enemy jungle or even close to dragon/baron if u are behind, while at the same time it would be rather hard to reduce her map-mobillity once u are behind against her.(atually, mapcontroll already is a bit to snowbally in generall due to the scuttle-craps, which gets taken 80% by the dominant team(please enlighten me if u have much different data here), and higher importance of dragon. Lategame combacks seem way harder to pull of since 4.2)

While reduceing the lifetime would be somewhat sad since the tunnle network is the most fun and engaging part of her, i feel like it's the better solution here to prevent snowballing cases.

The thing I am slightly concerned about is that as people get better at playing against her and realizing what they have to do to beat her, having the tunnels marked will make it a bit too hard for her to make good use of the ult. I'm uncertain if playtesting is enough to really establish that kind of experience where people will take good actions to counter her. I obviously do not know the extent of testing, so I can not say that for sure, but it does kind of seem that way a bit.

RiotMeddler9 votes

Yeah, that's something we'll need to monitor as people get better at her, particularly given we don't have much in the way of similar skills in LoL to use as reference points and internal testing can only do so much. On the flip side people will also get better at placing tunnels, hiding them especially, as they play her, so there should be some counteracting effects there.

Really good similar example: Pink ward placement. The ways people use pink wards has gotten a LOT smarter as time goes on, which was very clearly notable when following the S4 LCS.

Tis a nice day7 votes

This. I still recall the time when I hated the pink ward changes to being visible at all times, but then I started noticing how they could essentially act as permanent wards if placed in the right spots and I've loved them ever since.

RiotMeddler6 votes

Great example, and yeah, we'd be very happy to see tunnel placement follow the same sort of trajectory pink ward placement has.

AbodyHUN6662 votes

What do you think about being able to place only one end of the tunnel for the sake of ulting? I feel the double ones are hard to hide.

Endarken3 votes

If the tunnels will stay showing on the minimap, it would be nice to have some tunnel protection (ex. destroying a tunnel gives a short slow). Standing on it for 1.5 secs is barely even noticeable from all the videos I've watched on her so far.

Also give that underground Q a slow, even if you have to remove the reveal part. :D

I know the other game modes are not considered when designing a champion or... well, ever actually.

But I and others quite enjoy them, whether it's Dominion, ARAM or Treeline.

How do you believe her tunnels being visible at all times and destructible will affect her usage on those maps? Cause right now, I can see her being pretty okay on Scar, but useless on Abyss. It's a division of free-roam compared to extremely confined movement; opposite paradigms to say the least. In addition, I don't see her doing well on TT because so much of her power budget appears to be claimed by the "tacticalness" of her R. But then, she can already jump over (or I guess, dig under) walls.

Her "I can theoretically return to any point I've been to previously" doesn't matter nearly as much on the smaller maps, and especially on Abyss where the enemy literally walks over every point of ground to to reach the frontlines. The only times it could be useful is diving far behind the turrets and nestling it against the NW or SE base walls, or during the exceptionally late-game scenarios when death timers win or lose games.

They could make them function like Eve passive maybe?

Kobila20001 votes

Maybe remove the option of enemies on ARAM to destroy her tunnels, but limit them to only one, or a few with much shorter duration?

Dr Easter2 votes

Please please please!!! Consider taking a look at her tunels in Dominion before release. She may be really broken there! Please!!!

Kobila20001 votes

Unfortunately Riot doesn't give a damn about Dominion. What do they care if another utterly broken champion dominates the game there?

cant that logic also be used for pink wards?

agreed make teemo shrooms visible if you see them when they are placed

HER*

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

Yeah "Her" Its impossible to distinguish whether the champion is male or female so i just go with "His" even if they state she's a "She", and yes they are any tunnel on the map is visible even if the enemy has no vision of the area.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Man, unless you see them genitals there is no hint of the Sex of any void creature.

And her tunnel to be visible to enemies is completely fair seeing the advantage she gets from them. Just use them wisely.

Kobila20002 votes

So like, do you consider Ninja Turtles to be hermaphrodites or something?

Stars Shaper1 votes

They refer to themself as males so there is this hint, plus unmistakeable male voices.

Kobila20002 votes

You said "unless you see them genitals".

Since Rek'Sai doesn't talk, she can't refer to herself as she. That's why her creators do it for her. And since she doesn't have a human voice, it won't be feminine or masculine.

This is why women still feel the need to have a revolution.

Nah, as a man I'm still offended. It's a monster so it's male? Really?

If you didn't know the gender you could still use "they"...lol

Arveanor1 votes

Well, actually, no you can't. I mean, I do it all the time, but it's not correct English. I guess, the problem is when you only have your two third person singular pronouns like that, you kinda have to pick one, and if you pick the masculine form, there's a fair chance you'll be perceived as sexist for it.

Kobila200010 votes

Where in the world did you hear it's not correct English? It is, unless you're just looking for excuses. Just use freakin' they. There is also "it", which is what's used for animals precisely because you can't tell most of their genders.

Gear Kitty6 votes

As Kobila said, it is correct English to use They for a singular person.

I suggest taking a lesson from Prof. Wiki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they

Arveanor1 votes

I'd rather not take lessons from Prof. Wiki. Sure it's commonly used, but it's not strictly speaking correct, although, admittedly, various scholars tend to disagree on whether plural they should be used or not.

Gear Kitty5 votes

No, singular They.

Shakespeare used it. Chaucer used it.

Stuffy guys in the 1800's tried to get rid of it.

People still use it because that's how English FIRST WORKED. It's how the language flows naturally.

Martyrofsand1 votes

Does stepping on the tunnels destroy them or something? If it does then she aill kinda suck but otherwise I don't see and issue with it.

CrimsonRakan1 votes

i never read that they could. the tunnels have a grey bar on them which to my knowledge means they are time based(like stealth wards). but even they have the health bars under them so i wouldn't expect these to be destroyed

Rock Rockburgh3 votes

From the video demonstrating tunnels, she can travel through them after placement. When she does, the bar starts moving; I presume it represents how long she has to wait before using that tunnel again. (Both ends of the tunnel trigger at once, so you can't just jump in, hit something, and jump back.)

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

If an enemy stands on the tunnels for a few seconds, they collapse and get destroyed

CrimsonRakan2 votes

the timer they use for that would be the circular timer you see when udyr stuns someone.

i think thats actually how his tunnels work. Easy Dive in, Dive out mechanic, and i know you and/or others will complain about this... but before you do... take a good look, and i mean GOOD... look at Trynd.

CooGuy1 votes

maybe it could be if she uses them they cant be destroyed, but if she doesnt use them then they could be destroyed. almost like a cooldown, but a protection aswell.

Moonshade1 votes

standing on them for like 2 seconds collapses both ends of the tunnel

Martyrofsand1 votes

So what happens if she tried to ult to a tunnel that someone is standing on in an attempt to collapse, like if she is halfway through the travel time to get to it?

Purodyuusaa1 votes

Can you guys do something about the colors of her tunnels? When there are two Rek'Sai on the map, tracking which tunnel is yours and hers can be confusing, especially if you need to get somewhere quick thinking you have a tunnel on the map only to realize it wasn't yours at all.

This is the same for the minimap. Having both sets be purple circles is just a confusing mess.

RiotMeddler5 votes

Team specific mini map colors for tunnels will be in by the time she launches, we're just sorting out a few code issues with that at the moment.

As far as the tunnels themselves go there are team indicators on them (color of mist emerging from them). I get the impression from your post those are too hard to read at the moment though?

Purodyuusaa2 votes

Actually both. I wasn't even aware the color of the mist was different. I was just looking at the little colored bar above them, which is what the problem sorta kinda is. It's little, so when things are hectic it's hard to notice which one is yours at a glance.

That's in contrast to say, Karthus' Wall of Pain. You guys did good indicating which wall is the enemies and I can, at a glance, know whether to run through it or not.

Keep in mind, my complaints are directed towards those hectic in-the-moment situations. Everything else about her is fun.

Vauren2 votes

I know, probably not going to happen as it would be too confusing, but it would be kind of fun to be able to use the enemy's tunnels as well as your own. It'd add a bit of adventure to the matchup. Click on a tunnel and not knowing where you will come out. Makes for some good memory games as well and whether or not you decide to destroy the tunnels, or leave it for your own use as well and maybe just stick a ward on either end.

Gear Kitty3 votes

OFA: Mirror Mode on the Rift with Rek'Sai.

I can't even comprehend how horribly awesome it could end up being if you got to use your enemies' tunnels.
