Why are people complaining about dragons so much?

I made a video about me loving everything about it and everyone is just complaining.

Dragons are weaker early, such as inferanl giving 5% ad/ap instead of 10%, and earth dragon instead of closing games faster with true damage to towers and rushing barons with insane damage comps, it's now resistences, making fights longer due to being tanky and not being as snow bally.

People are complaining that there is no comeback potential with dragons, but there is comeback potential. You had 4 dragons worth of time to make a comeback. The dragons are weaker early, until the dragon soul in which the team gets an uber buff. It takes a lot of investment to get 4 dragon kills cleanly and it meant to be a method to close out games reliably instead of teams with 5+ dragons losing the game due to owning the game up until 1 teamfight. It's nice not feeling rushed to end the game and instead have an option to go for late game where your goal is to keep up the objectives and do a big push with the dragon soul and finish it up with an elder.

I was originally going to make this about the preseason in general, but I'll keep it simple. I just love everything about this preseason and I am shocked that when riot is attempting to actually slow the pace of the game down, make room for late game strategies and less sustain/poke damage so that champions that specialize it can shine instead of being forgotten is shocking.

It's about the spirits and the fkin executes.

It's about the spirits and the fkin executes.

So it's about people refusing to contest objectives and crying because their great plan of giving up dragons didn't work as well as they hoped

You're being intentionally ignorant lol. Who ends up getting it was a non issue, it's just r3tarded that's all.

So... let me say that again... It's because people have no idea how useful objectives are and rather chase for random kills and worthless farm? Cool

i cannot count the times my team and i have tried contesting drake in preseason and have failed bc the enemy team has more burst assassins than us, and we have no vision bc of nerfs to it, so we all get bursted while their jg solos drake

MagicFlyingLlama7 votes

Because people who understand nothing are just mad about everything, as usual.

No understanding of the fact that elder drake is meant to force game closure when one team is way ahead instead of having a 15 minute stallfest, and dragons are generally less snowbally now due to lower first stack stats. Shit is funny to watch.

Spôôked3 votes

nobody likes the elder buff bc it has no counterplay. it is a pyke ult that you cannot dodge and even currently bypasses resistances and can execute you at 100% hp (unless they fixed it finally). they nerfed jg xp so unless you have a high sustain jg who can clear all camps without recalling like tryndamere or lee, then contesting drake is harder especially with them nerfing vision (again).

the preseason feels like they made the game into a cheesy pc cafe game you play when you are bored after school and just want a super quick 15min game, which is why most players are pissed off about these changes.

elder dragon is too much and a kiss of death, i have contributed to TF with 5~10% hp, the execute mechanic makes it impossible to do that. all the other changes i like.

I appreciate the thought behind Elder dragon, but it's basically Riot going "Ok, we know that this is a stomp or be stomped meta so here you go." Elder Dragon is just "ff@15".

I want to note that it is impossible to get elder at 15. If you get first dragon at 5 the 5th dragon will not spawn until 25 minutes into the game, and elder will only be that if 1 team literally got all 4 of the previous dragons. Elder most likely spawns closer to 30 minutes or 35 if the game was even early and every dragon was taken AT spawn time. You wont even see elder in most games, heck you wont see dragon souls in most games the games will be over before then, and before the soul or elder dragons are all around healthier some slightly weaker others slightly stronger and none stackable pre 20 minutes. The things you guys are complaining about being too strong and "game ending" are designed to end the game so I guess the thing you don't like is "work as intended" but shouldnt affect 99% of your games anyway.

You're being autistic with my post. "ff@15" in my context is simply saying "Game is over, nothing can be done"

People complain about it because all it does is bring more problems into the game.

Do the new dragons fix the huge disparity in power level between champions?

Do dragons fix the ridiculous game pace that allows some champion to reach late game damage in two items?

Do the new dragons reduce damage and make anything other than burst damage valuable?

You can keep praising Riot for feeding you garbage every patch and never addressing any important balance issue, that is fine. But us don't complain don't forget the problems Riot refuses to do anything about just because the 3rd dragon makes some meaningless changes to the map now.

I personally like the drake changes, but there is one change I don't like. It's the execution threshold on the elder drake. That's the most unfun mechanic I've experienced in LoL. Who the hell though that was a good idea. WHO? I don't have problem some champions to have executions, but not every.

Naalith1 votes

Yeah I dunno why people are talking about the dragon buffs that much. I haven't had an Elder spawn in the entire patch yet luckily but that does seem a little dumb. I do think there is legitimate frustration of the dragon soul and the kind of gameplay it leads to though. Everyone just plays aggro champions who can roam fast to secure dragon, it's kinda boring and frustrating if you like other characters. Some of the souls are way too good while others are meh. Mountain is meh, Cloud is meh (used to be a lesser rune lmao), but Infernal allowing a free electrocute proc several times a fight is too much and Ocean is resident busted. Ocean soul is a massive mistake and completely out of line imo.

I'm just glad they nerfed Sanguine Blade once already, although I do think it should just be deleted outright. The lethality items need to just be reverted, Umbral Glaive could be seen as decent until people realize you can use Duskblade to notice when you lose the buff and just activate Oracle when you know there's a ward. Umbral is underpowered and serves no real purpose that Oracle+ Duskblade can't fix, Sanguine is fundamentally flawed as a design.

I like the idea behind it. But currently I think they are too forced. Either take drake or lose game. Especially the elder drake buff, which instantly annihilates anyone below a certain threshold. So add that with consistent pressure on the lower half of the map and the nerfs to the bot lane and jungle and you have yourself an angry community.

I'm glad mountain gives defense. I only have 3 issues with the dragons:

  1. Elder execute
  2. The way we don't know which soul we're getting, let us plan in champ select
  3. The shake up from elder execute and soul trigger me because I get vertigo sometimes and it shakes the WHOLE screen, even when I'm in combat, please let us turn that off.

Disable screen shake in the settings then.

The only people who have valid complaints is the toplane mains getting shafted again. Drakes became super uber important that a jungler needs to secure them 24/7, and cant afford to camp top if its in a bad matchup. Teemo got a huge buff from this change, and he will make csing under turret a living hell for any melee.

Wayward Fish1 votes

I don't object to the dragons. I like them. It feels easier to get a dragon and to build my collection and makes it more clear what a team should be doing at any given point in the game in terms of thinking on our win condition and what side of the map its on.

I don't like elder drake execute.

Yenn1 votes

By the time you get to 4 dragons, 9/10 games are already heavily in favor of one team. That team will almost certainly get the soul and further the advantage that they already had.

Mihalikb1 votes

Having the games decided 50% by your jungle and 50% by your botlane is annoying as shit.

That's why I hate dragons.

I'm sick and fucking tired of getting junglers who are on the opposite side of the map every single time a drake spawns.

It's mentally and emotionally draining.

I'm sure this meta will be fun to watch in pro games, but it's just annoying and exasperating in solo Queue.

Every game I've played even the ones I've won have been annoying and tilt inducing.

Bro, did you not read the cloud dragon. 10/20/30/40% CDR for ult over the cap that stacks with cosmic insight 45% and ultimate hunter. The soul gives movement speed when you popped ult.

I got this on one of my leona games...My stun was on a 11 second cool down. My mass stun that deals decent damage, was on a lower cool down than alot of champions abilities. My teams master YI had his ult on like a 15 second cool down same with the yasuo. He was literally abusing both it and the soul to just run around killing people while I spam rooted everyone in place. Thank god we didn't have a lux on our team or the enemy might of thought we were hacking(her CD is lower than mine so her ult would of been on a 8 second CD).

Both Cloud and elder need to get nerfed. Same with sanguine.

Sire Hippington1 votes

For me, the reason is simple: 4 dragons is nearly GG cause of the dragon soul, which means dragons and with that botside have absolut priority, so toplane once again remians an island. Jungle and mid both HAVE TO play around bot to maintain dragon controll. This also means botlane will be all about early lane dominance to help with that. Dragon should be an option, but with how powerfull the 4 dragon advantage is, everyone is forced to put all their focus on it, which heavily limits strategic diversity.

This means top will be either ranged cancer or sanguin abusers splitpushing till either team's 4 man won the game regardless of their Top's doings...

WoonStruck1 votes

My issue is the win condition that dragon souls are, while baron and elder were already win conditions...so they buffed elder to be even more of a win condition when it would still be a win condition if they removed the execute. And then they nerfed baron, because heaven forbid a team trade baron for elder and actually accomplish something.

Also, what's the point of having 3 separate win conditions if one team is going to monopolize them? If the game gets drawn out to that point despite the other team having such a massive deficit, they should have the chance at a come-back because its the winning team that's playing poorly at that point. Instead, the team with a lead maintains a lead, with almost no exception.

IMO, if they REALLY want to keep souls, once a team gets a dragon soul, and the other team gets 4 drakes in total after, they should also get one for whatever their latest non-elder drake is. If they took 4 elders somehow, they receive the same soul the opposing team has. The closer a game is late game, the more interesting the game becomes.

Forcing the jungler to camp bot all game because dragon soul is basically an instant GG either way isn't good design. Changes would be positive overall if they didn't add dragon souls and elder execute.

Saezio1 votes

I still wish they didn't nerf the dragon's HP. I think it was unnecessary and the champs that could already solo it are now able to do it more easily.

I personally believe soloing dragon should not be a thing unless it's past like 12 min or so. Soloing an EPIC MONSTER at level 5 seems just a ridiculous concept to me that should never be the case.

Oh and maybe add a lower execute threshold for the elder buff if not straight up removing it. It's just too much. It's basically 100% guaranteed game ender. Or only make it apply off non aoe abilities and auto attacks. Shit like comet/luden MF's E shouldn't proc that.

Godlzahar1 votes

Instead of elder give execute, they should at least rework it to buff the dragon buffs you already have, i think will be better.

Saezio1 votes

BTW there are games with less than 1k gold difference where elder is taken and that team autowins. How is there comeback potential when enemy gets elder when both teams had the same gold? It's just a mechanism that ENSURES WITHOUT ANY DOUBT the game NEVER goes to stuff like 50 mins 60 mins etc.

Yesterday I saw an upvotes thread where someone seriously ranted about that new design from the "Riot Points"-icon in the client. Can you believe that?
