Triumph should be a Tank Rune

In my opinion Triumph should be in the Resolve Tree. I tell you why:

  • Triumph is a perfect Rune for Bruisers, Juggernauts, Tanks and everyone who builds HP (most of them goes Resolve anyway). I dont even understand why Triumph is in Precision. Actually its a better tank rune than every single of my Resolve runes i use as tanky Jungler. Together with "Legend: Alacrity" (which is also very good for junglers) it makes Precision secondary mandatory for tanky Junglers because it's just TOO good not to pick, which is kinda sad, because there are other cool Trees i would try sometimes. Also it gives you a little bit Gold for Takedowns. Question: which are the ones who lack gold? Tanks or ADC's/Assasins?

  • The Precision Tree is already one of the most picked Rune Trees in general because it is full of "allrounder" Runes that every role/champion could benefit from. There is at least one very usefull Rune in every Tier. In comparison to other Trees there are very few niche Runes.

  • Resolve is one of the worst Rune Trees imo. There is actually no Rune where i would say "Wow, yeah THIS rune is awesome for Juggernauts/Bruisers". Its 90% weird niche runes. In T1 everyone takes "Demolish" because its the only rune left that isn't niche. In T2 the only rune you can take as Jungler is Conditioning because the other two are runes for laners, but it kinda sucks if you dont build full Armor/MR. It gives you fu**ing 8(!) Armor after 10(!) Minutes. In this Meta 10 Minutes is 50% of the game. And as jungler i need the 8 armor for early clears, not after 10 minutes when its worth nothing anymore. T3: Revitalize is a niche Rune that only works on champs with save heal/shields or in special combos. Unflinching is just weird.

A rune like Triumph would upgrade the Resolve tree, at least a bit.

Triumph and Presence of Mind are the reason everyone uses (or should use) Precision as at least a secondary tree. They're basically keystones.

BigFBear2 votes

yeah and thats makes it so sad. Its a cookie-cutter...

Jerry SeinfeId11 votes

so just use precision then. i don't get why you all have this obsession with certain classes having to take a specific runetype.

BigFBear3 votes

because without Aftershock i am too squishy

Jerry SeinfeId5 votes

so then you run resolve precision. it's perfectly possible.

Sire Hippington10 votes

the issue with that is that it's so strong that this mix becomes kinda mandatory, so you have 3 full trees that you'll never use cause you're kinda forced into the other two.

Jerry SeinfeId13 votes

so to solve that you want to move it to the other one you're already using? you're asking to get a tree specifically for champs who want both aftershock and Triumph so they can run something like sorcery for example.

That's asking to inconvenience champs that would for example want sorcery precision because you want 2 runes you claim are incredibly strong together to work together without drawbacks.

can i get a tree that gives me Presence of mind, last stand, dark harvest, and gathering storm then? sounds pretty dope for karthus.

You're supposed to be able to take the runes you like to compliment your playstyle on the champ. But in reality, that's impossible. In most elo's you can run runes you want to some extent as long as they make sense. But at some point using a champ as optimal as possible becomes important and thus there will be optimal runes. If you took away the requirement of using precision secondary, something else will take it's place and while you don't HAVE to use them, they are still optimal.

Dude you don't need to make this ridiculous. You example is a bit weird. Its not about cherry picking. It's about that Triumph is a rune that fits Bruisers, Juggernauts, Tanks. It gives you better sustain and survivability. So it's a perfekt Rune for the pretty weak and sad Resolve tree.

Jerry SeinfeId4 votes

it's a rune that literally fits anyone in the game.

How is the precision tree not great for bruisers anyway? plenty of em like it. Udyr Jax Olaf Renekton Shyvana MasterYi and others all like it afaik.

So it's a perfekt Rune for the pretty weak and sad Resolve tree

A rune with the main requirement killing someone, in a defensive tree?

i wouldn't say it's that weak, it's just that there's alot of niche stuff in there that appeals more to pure tanks like Nautilus Maokai.

If you ask me, a bruiser or jugg going into precision or even domination shouldn't be weird at all and plenty of them do just that. But if you want to run aftershock on volibear then you're gonna have to make the runes available to you work. if you then decide that you REALLY need triumph you're gonna have to go precision secondary.

I think it'd be better to look into making some of the niche runes in resolve more attractive. If font of life for example didn't exclude you but maybe only lowered the amount the user healed it'd be more interesting for sustained healing. maybe let conditioning come online a bit faster or scale harder.

BigFBear2 votes

I don't say that Bruisers shouldn't go Precision at all. Wtf. I just say that this rune is more about sustain and survivability and therefore defense than offense. And it's not for "killing" it's "takedowns", that means you just need to assist that kill.

The pure fact that Triumph is %HP and not a fixed number like "Taste of Blood" in Domination make it so good for anyone who builds masses of HP. I mean it's in the offense tree and gives %HP? Why? Why not just a number then, like ToB?

But you are right. They should make Resolve less niche or add more runes if they want to keep the niche ones and it would be fine for me.

My point is it's a rune that encourages killing an opponent. just because you didn't get the kill doesn't mean that you didn't participate in killing someone.

The pure fact that Triumph is %HP

if it was flat it'd either be too strong on squishy champs or too weak for tanky champs.

Take precision as secondary.

I like Inspiration for Free Boots/Stopwatch and Cosmic insight.

5% overcap, 5% CDR and 5% summoner CDR are pretty good haves, it does entirely depend though, some do better with Sorcery because of Transcendence, Juggernauts running Grasp do better with Precision, all down to the champ.

I think this is why I like the new system. You can customize. Yes certain things are most optimal but at the same time I’m usually able to run 2-3 different pages depending on the champ, comp and lane match up.

I DO. But that's the problem! Maybe sometimes I want to play another secondary tree but Precision is just TOO good not to pick. It's fu**ing mandatory.

Phieldworker4 votes

Eh. It makes more sense on a duelist though. Since they will most likely be getting the kills.

BigFBear3 votes

you also get it when you assist a kill

I get that but the idea of the rune is you are in the heat of battle and you beat your foe and you can keep on going. It is a more defensive one because of the health regen but it’s more for rewarding the fighter for their resilience in battle.

Resolve is more so for up front survivability or mid fight sustain, not an aftermath rune.

I’m not saying your idea is wrong

Legend: Alacrity should stay where it is.

It's a sustained damage rune (More AS = Sustained damage)

It's not a Tank Rune, it's intended for attack speed reliant champions like Marksmen, Azir, Jax etc.

Legend: Tenacity in my opinion has no place in Precision.

Tenacity is a stat Tanks and Bruisers love.

BigFBear5 votes

I never said Legend: Alacrity should be in Resolve... o_O

Uhh...

Sir, he's talking about the rune that gives you 12% of your max HP on takedowns (which kinda makes sense, as tanks are the ones that will's be most likely taking HP items?)

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

There shouldn't be a "Tank Tree". Realistically, the idea is to make tree's off of aspects, like Resolve being for utilizing durability as either a defense or offense, and Domination for burst and damage, Sorcery for admittedly weak ability focus and manipulation, etc etc.

BigFBear2 votes

I just call it tank tree/rune for better understanding in the title. I know that Resolve isn't for Tanks only and Precision for ADC's only...

Jesus is Savior2 votes

Triumph isn't for durability. It's for clutch survival at the end of the fight. Mostly to punish DoTs like ignite.

It has also been around for... Several several seasons in some form or another. I doubt they'll move it to the "tank" tree. It has been a part of League almost as long as flash. It allows for glass cannons to make flashy outplays in lane by killing their opponent faster than their opponent can kill them (and then being rewarded by surviving ignite or etc).

DracosKasu2 votes

It is more precision which happen to be the main issue which happen to get all the dmg increase and finishing like ability which made it into a must go tree.

Done252 votes

Just go Resolve Primary with Triumph+Legend:Tenacity as Precision secondary? Congrats, now you get tank runes.

BigFBear1 votes

Maybe you should read the start post again. It's about that Precision secondary is a Cookie-Cutter for many Bruisers/Juggernauts (especially in jungle).

OrangeMarine2 votes

i like this idea

Rathar Dashing1 votes

It makes more sense for someone who's going to be doing a lot of fighting. The pure tank version exists already as Second Wind. If you tank Triumph on a tank you can take full resolve runes, then get Triumph+Tenacity secondary, like I do on Leona and a couple others.

Sneaky Jew2 votes

Second wind is pure worthless piece of garbage and is only useful in the laning phase against ranged pokers. even with 3000 missing HP, you are only going to regen 120+6 over 10 seconds. this number is so irrelevant and garbage because you get can the same amount in 5 seconds with a spirit visage mid to late game. if you apply Triumph to the 3000 missing health, you will get 360 near instantly, going up if you visage and revitalize (but you're probably gonna get grievous wounds 24/7). from a single kill/assist.

Triumph alone in a single game restores more health than all of the bonus health/damage reduction you can get in the resolve tree combined.

Rathar Dashing1 votes

Well second wind is pretty much a constant restoration of health in lane. Even after only 30 seconds of benefitting from it, you've already restored more health than triumph would have given you. Let's say you get 5 kills and 10 assists in a game, so 15 takedowns. If you've been in combat with champions for 7.5 minutes, you'll have healed more over the course of the game than with Triumph. And that's not including the other health restoration you can get from resolve, including grasp healing (2% max health healing, plus a permanent +5 health), and revitalize (+5% healing power, increased to 15.5% when below 40% max health, which applies to second wind, self heals, self shields, and certain parts apply to lifesteal and spellvamp, as well).

And demolish should be a Percision rune.

Phieldworker2 votes

And demolish should be a Percision rune.

I don’t think so. Resolve is the tree most tanks take and they lack ad for tower taking. So demolish is there to help that.

Ad’s Usually have precision so they don’t really need the extra help taking towers. Not saying you can’t take it on an AD

Soy un pato1 votes

I think it could work, but it should then be nerfed a little bit to make for it.

That, or having runes that don't suck in the tanky tree.
