PSA: stop trying to baron when all your lanes are pushing toward your towers.

Thought this was common sense at this point, but I just lost a game because I went to clear out a MASSIVE wave topside while my team tunneled in on baron. Of course, I was flamed, despite the fact that I commented on the fact that a massive wave was pushing, pinged that I was on my way lane, and then pinged "careful" on baron. But no, totally my fault. Classic plat. 0% awareness, 100% ego. Seriously, watch a pro game. They will NEVER take baron if they are getting pushed in unless it's a desperation play.

I'm just a normie, but I feel like people over-value Baron a bit. It's not worth it to blow off shoving down towers just to grab it. :\

This was not a case like that. It was kind of a long game, but we had managed to kill both nexus turrets and had mid inhib down for a little while longer. The other 2 inhibs had respawned, but were exposed and with baron, the enemy would have been utterly unable to stop our seige. We also had just secured elder drake, but our team was a bit too disjointed to rely purely on a big fight to close out the game, so we decided to go for the baron for the easy close. So basically, our strategy was to slowly squeeze them until they either lost the war of attrition, or were forced out of their defensive positions making a teamfight much more favorable for us. I saw no need to force anything, we were ahead, taking risks was simply stupid, so I went to clear top wave and communicated this to my team. Problem is, I was the jungler, so my 4 idiot teammates decided to start a 4v5 baron fight WITHOUT A SMITE. GGEZ.

-reading the post - "Classic bronz.... wait.. plat?" o_o

ikr...stupidest part was that I was the jungler, so my team literally ran into a 4v5 baron fight without smite...

RIP...

I wish we had good junglers down here, I can't really complain I suck at the role myself... I play ADC more now a days...

But when I get a 0/5 Kindred pinging barron with the whole enemy team up and we got NO VISION... (Not necessarily the supports fault It's everyone's including mine, we have no control over the map at all and they got wards in OUR jungle..)

"Nah, I'll get this farm bot lane and try to reach a power spike here soon so we can push back a little bit."

Thankfully some people on my team, usually stand with me on the grounds of that's a bad Idea. Sadly that isn't the case everytime and it always ends badly.

There's conditions to getting barron..

  1. All lanes are pushed up... I want **BOTLANE to be knocking on their front door.**FAR FAR AWAY...

  2. 3 people on their team (Including their jungle).. dead.. with our jungle is still up.

  3. Assess whether BARRON OR THEIR BASE IS MORE IMPORTANT... If we can win this game and I'm the only one left in the base trying to push it and they have like 15 seconds left and we would of won if everyone stayed and pushed it.....

These three things are good criteria, but you don't need 3 people dead. If you have vision on a key source of damage (ie adc) or the jungler, and the are far enough away that they won't be able to get there in time, you can almost always either sneak baron or force a very favorable fight. With regard to the whole base or baron decision, this was not that. All we had to do was seige for the win. Enemy team had a naked nexus, baron was not necessary, it would just guarantee the win. I opted to not force the baron despite our obvious advantage because I saw no need to take risks in our current position, but the other 4 members acted as though their lives depended on getting baron right fucking now.

That's what I mean by the 3rd thing is... what's more important... xD

I can't tell you how many winable games were lost.. QQ

Well, ok I explained this wrong then. We were not going to be able to just straight up walk into the enemy base. And they had excellent waveclear with ziggs and jhin. We needed the baron to really secure that final push, but we were still in control of the game, so taking risks was not necessary.

Ah I see. :3

What you said at the end sums it up. Players can't separate desperation plays and securing objectives.

I know sometimes if you can sneak it with one player pushing a lane, it works really well. But again, most of those are desperation plays with the enemy team up or half up.

But all in all it also depends on comp. If you have a fed adc or any kind of carry with sustain, you don't need the full team doing baron, so you can handle pushing a lane and grabbing an objective. But that's only if your comp works and your ahead.

This was a game that we were utterly crushing. We also had elder drake, so there was literally no need to rush. More importantly, however, I was the jungler and I told my team that I was going to go deal with the massive top wave. My team then engaged in a 4v5 baron fight WITHOUT THE JUNGLER. See the issue? This was in no way a baron sneak, or anything like that. All we had to do was slowly press the lanes. We had all 3 inhibs down briefly, and managed to destroy both nexus turrets before being forced out by respawns. All we had to do was not be idiots, and 4 people simultaneously decided to do exactly that.

Eesh, yeah that's even worse. Doing objectives without jungler is asking for a paddlin'.

But I definitely hear you. Absolutely sucks since it sounds like you could have won that game were it not for that bad baron play your team did D:

Had a couple of those games myself. Thankfully they were normals so I wasn't too stressed, but still. Always the worst feeling when playing as a jungler knowing you could have won if your team had listened to you :/

They had a naked nexus and we had elder. Ya, it was completely gg if not for that play. They literally won the game on this play, actually. I managed to survive, but as a zac, they just ignored me and ran down mid, killed inner tower, inhib tower, inhib, both nexus turrets, and the nexus before the rest of my team respawned.

Desolas Arterius1 votes

That really sucks :c sorry to hear that man! Hopefully your next team learns to prioritize better haha. But at least you got to vent out your frustration. There wasn't much you could do in that situation since they didn't listen to your warnings :/

PSA: there is a best possible call to be made. inhib vs baron is a heavy choice to make.

i wont say which is right and which is wrong, its subjective for the game.

i will say that all 4 members of your team could be wrong and go someplace else, but its better to have 5 people playing wrong together in the late game than it is for you to split up at the late stage regardless of you being right or not.

if you go it alone you will be caught, you will die, and your team will lose 4v5.

We had elder drake and baron was mostly to ensure that our seige of the NAKED NEXUS went off without a hitch. My team rushed it like it was a do or die moment in the game, and more importantly, they did so without me, the fkin jungler.

even in higher plat divisions i see very often bad calls for objectives like Baron and Drake. Its like see a silver call for baron, in a plat game, it is likely to work in silver, but not in plat.
