"aatrox was too unhealthy to be kept in the game"
Meanwhile have fking zoe, irelia and now one of the most bullshit champions ever made to date, akali.
Lmao.

Lmao.
lmao
new irelia and akali are more healthy to play against than the old ones, change my mind.
I can't, you're right.
Yes, because a draintank that literally just ran at you and hit you until you died or until he died was healthy, but champions who are designed around landing high-importance skillshots (If you die to Zoe and she misses every Q and E (and isn't 5 kills up on you), you're honestly beyond the point where any coach could salvage you) that actually need to be landed to get a kill are unhealthy.
New Irelia needs to land E (Harder than it looks, since it's such a narrow skillshot) and time W decently well to actually win. Zoe isn't killing you without landing E and Q unless someone on your team actually inted into her. New Akali needs to land E and R, and is one of the only assassins with delays in the middle of her combo, rather than only at the start (like Eve's W) or after it's already over (Zed's R, for example). Old Aatrox pressed R then mashed Q and E in your general direction while right-clicking you to death (Which made him only slightly different from Trynd).
Uh, wrong. When does he ever get to just run at anyone? Have you heard of CC? ANY cc fucks old Aatrox hard. His damage and healing (which is his ONLY build in defense--unlike other top laners that have passive resistances, shields, blocks etc) was useless if his attack speed was slowed or he was stunned. And his revive was near useless as he just sat there waiting to usually die again.
You have no god damn idea what you are talking about.
Have you ever heard of tenacity? Have you ever heard of dodging the skillshot? Have you never heard of continuing to move forward anyways, because you'd still easily reach them?
Old Aatrox was Nasus minus any skill involved in surviving lane long enough to be relevant or in mana usage.
Yes, tenacity, that thing you get by giving up
Also, take a step back. Have I heard of skill shots? Yes. Have you heard of how games go? People die all the time. Even at the highest level. Why? Because eventually you are going to get tagged with something. Saying to dodge a skill shot is like saying just don't die. Its utterly ridiculous and shows a staggering lack of understanding of reality in general.
Old Aatrox pressed R then mashed Q and E in your general direction while right-clicking you to death (Which made him only slightly different from Trynd).
To kinda correct you on this (some people kinda forget the true combo), you would Q then R so you can get more hits in before they leave your range and have the guaranteed R damage on top. E comes after that.
Oh, my bad.
Yeah. Q then R for extra passive stacks, damage, and a bit more effective duration.
Np. Its a detail people tend to forget.
No, thats not what Aatrox did. You have no idea what you are talking about just like every other person on these boards who peddle the bs narrative the Riot pushed on us to justify deleting a champion out of the game.

you are right he pressed R, then jumped at you and then proceeded to auto you while using the skillshot in his kit because why not. That's literally all he did. He would then either get a kill or die solely depending on whether or not your damage could overcome his dealing or not. Sorry you liked old Aatrox but that doesn't change the fact that he was a terrible champion that could never be balanced
Jax--dive, do bonus damage, if they fight back, block and stun them, while you wail on them with increasing attack speed. Yeah, thats somehow so much different?
Have you ever considered the fact that Jax is also a statcheck? The two are not mutually exclusive.
Yes. But this thread is about Aatrox being too unhealthy for the game. He was rarely picked. Jax was a lot more popular. Therefore his stat checkiness was, is, a much bigger problem. Why did they start with Aatrox?
Also, literally every damage champion is a stat check when ahead. Its a stupid argument
You can say the same thing about many champions. That isn't a proper argument.
Also, what you described is a vaccum. There are team fights, chaos. Aatrox, except in lane, rarely just gets to sit there trading blows. Someone will come along and stun him or slow his attack speed, or deal massive burst damage. I'm sorry, but your imagination doesn't count for how things play out in actual matches.

I am sorry you are trying to defend something that could not be balanced. Teamfights? old Aatrox didn't want to teamfight since he was garbage at them and he would still just jump into the backline and do the exact same thing as he would in a 1v1 just that he would die before doing anything. Sorry your no skill champion now requires skill to play
Team fights were necessary, and often if he didn't and kept trying to split, he loses the game. What he wants is irrelevant. Situations happen. Again, not a vaccum, kid.
If he required no skill, why wasn't he more popular and mained up to at least platinum?
Yes, because a draintank that literally just ran at you and hit you until you died or until he died was healthy, but champions who are designed around landing high-importance skillshots (If you die to Zoe and she misses every Q and E (and isn't 5 kills up on you), you're honestly beyond the point where any coach could salvage you) that actually need to be landed to get a kill are unhealthy.

If an Aatrox pressed R before he tried to land anywhere near you -which means Aatrox most likely never ran at anyone- with the much harder to land Q and E than it looks, then the player behind him was pretty bad and predictably lost way more fights on average than one who comboed properly. You needed to be close to someone to deal damage with the R activation, it worked like an instant Leona W. I'm so pained when people claim Aatrox took no skill and believe it. I've watched whatever Aatrox gameplay I could find on Youtube and elsewhere over more than 4 years and 1 out of every 100 content creators performed reasonably with Aatrox, the rest missed at least half of the micro you could pull off (as a result the game was ultimately decided by macro, the team and general luck in all regards). The tilt I felt whenever I watched someone who wasn't even scratching the upper limits of the character's potential proves being truly good at Aatrox was a rare thing, and when the mediocre and good Aatrox (solely by micro) is set apart so noticeably that validates the stance Aatrox wasn't binary nor braindead, this applies to most other auto attacker type of champions as well, Yi probably being the bottom contender (Yi's R is braindead, I admit lol, feels this way because of the synergies it has and the double edge of low effort and hyper carry). Just as much as if you watch an average high elo player on Trynd who isn't a Trynd main you'll see way less of that possible skill (Trynd's E is somewhat hard to use properly because he has 125 range and you can easily misposition yourself, even a few units mistake you will feel if you strive for perfection in your plays, his W needs a lot of focus and enemy reading against skilled players and his Q is reminiscent in demand to old old Aatrox's resource management, you have to have good decision making, same for his R, and then you have auto attack management which is just as hard as for a ranged character, but you don't have their distance for yourself). You could say after this: "yeah but that's still not the same micro demand, just decision making". Trynda's 3-4 spells need good reflexes even if you only have to aim one. I'm pretty sure reflex counts as micro. All that aside Aatrox was more micro intensive in his own right than Trynd is. Yi is underneath these two in difficulty and let's say Garen is a mile down, which is funny for a caster champ. I don't know even why everyone seems to always forget about auto attackers that perfect orbwalking takes way more skill than it seems, just for one example.
On a side note what is the risk factor of landing such a high-importance skill shot (Zoe, Irelia). Usually not as much as an all-in. They don't need to put themselves too close in most cases, Zoe always auto warps back, Irelia has decent range with her e. Both can achieve very low cd on these. Aatrox's was one of the most counterable playstyles by such simplicity as buying cheap items against him. Attack speed reductions and heal reductions cut into his potency deeply, I always hated how hard the game geared against that, felt like most other champions can't be managed against this way. (complete item counters and not just one, imagine playing against the combination of them on top of that, and it's not even just a spellshield against one high-priority move from him, it's to nullify his threat with permanent impunity)
It might be surprising but a huge chunk of the community prefers an auto attack playstyle, mainly most of the adc playerbase. The question stands to reason that those who belong there just think in melee have to be pushed out of the game?
It's okay if you don't agree with some of my points, I just want to show every coin has two sides and these things are not as clear-cut as some others, it's easy to counter back and forth and no side is absolutely right. I also am aware autos can't be dodged by normal means, but at least here you have the fact quite a few high impact spells enjoy some priority against cc. Autos are interrupted by cc and itemization has great counter potential against them too, at least when we talk about the average auto attack. On a last note I'm not trying to defend old Aatrox hard here, I'd have been fine too if Rito had addressed the parts of his kit that apparently opponents found overbearing (which was almost never my impression though). While keeping his stoic frenzy allure and his animations/animation quality and his wings intact. Sorry if this stretched long.
Aatrox was a giant stat check with 0 skill expression.
Overloaded kits with tons of of mechanics seem to be the new norm that champion design has been going in in the past 2 years so get used to it.
That is not true. Its just propaganda that you are regurgitating. Tell me, where is the skill in jax? Point and click leap, blocking damage ending with a hard CC? Ult passive resistances scaling off of his AD items?
Aatrox was only a stat check when ahead. Guess what, many champions doe that today. And they do it far worse than Aatrox ever could.
If you think there is no skill expression, why didn't players just ride him to platinum? Because he was relatively weak, and easily countered.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Nobody said Jax is fine.
Aatrox was a stat-check literally all the time. "Only when ahead" my ass, he was a stat-check literally all of the time. He was either able to kill or he wasn't, and that was solely dependent on his stats and a couple of cooldowns.
Unless you played him enough, you aren't qualified to say hes always a stat check. That is not true.
You are just spewing crap you heard
Okay. So tell me, exactly, how he isn't a statcheck.
Go ahead.
Well considering that when I had to play AGAINST him, he almost was never a problem. Even if he was problem early on, once I had
or
, he does baby damage.
That being said, I could stomp the enemy into the ground if I was just 1 level ahead, like 1v2, 1v3. However, once the team fights started, and I wasn't dealing with controlled situations, one good stun could end me. You can't build him full tank or he does pathetic damage. If you build him AD, you get blown up after a stun or
or anything that slows attack speed and or movement speed. If you build bruiser, thats probably the best bet, and that is usually what I did. However, if the enemy team called for me having
or I am the only possible tank, the whole bruiser build starts to not pan out in the end.
His kit pulled him in way too many directions. For example
can get away with no building any tank because no matter, what, he can lay into enemies without dying for 5 very long seconds. Aatrox needs AD for his blood price..but his heals scale off of missing % of health, so he needs HP to have bigger heals. He also lacked movement speed and chase ability, so you had to add something for that, and he has NO build in defenses. HEALING is not a built in defense--shields, parry, blocks, free tenacity or passive resistances, such as Olaf or Jax, Fiora, Panth, etc, is built in defense. Aatrox was the only top laner that lacked any kind of way to mitigate incoming damage with his kit and ALSO was the only top laner that had not one of the following:
% of health damage True damage Bleed Shred or armor pen Significant magic damage (especially after ricklesabandon, turned his E to physical damage for some dumbfuck reason)
His kit was super barre bones as I have just explained. And his passive revive was a joke. Because other champions kits are a little more focused, I often watch other champions heal up just as fast as old aatrox while doing MUCH more damage.
Its a joke that Aatrox was labeled as a problem. He wasn't. Riot just had it in for him and spread this bullshit narrative to justify deleting him which they knew they were going to do.
No one really ever said, "oh shit, its aatrox" They more often say, "oh shit its....jax...or ugh, tryndamere...fucking yas..." etc
So don't tell me that Aatrox was the problem. The problem was that Riot didn't want to do what needed to be done--tone down his healing in trade for some built in toughness, and turn his ult in a team fight buff.
Well considering that when I had to play AGAINST him, he almost was never a problem. Even if he was problem early on, once I had

or
, he does baby damage.
Nothing in that makes him not a statcheck. Building against him is standard procedure for any champion. Getting armor doesn't make a statcheck not a statcheck.

None of that makes him not a statcheck. Having to build properly is standard on every champion.
His kit pulled him in way too many directions. For example

Lacking innate damage mitigation does not make you not a statcheck. Lacking %hp damage, true damage, bleeds, armor shreds, or mixed damage does not make you not a statcheck.
His kit was super barre bones as I have just explained. And his passive revive was a joke. Because other champions kits are a little more focused, I often watch other champions heal up just as fast as old aatrox while doing MUCH more damage.
Simple kits do not make you not a statcheck. Usually it's the opposite, in fact.
Its a joke that Aatrox was labeled as a problem. He wasn't. Riot just had it in for him and spread this bullshit narrative to justify deleting him which they knew they were going to do.
Except he was a statcheck, and one that was statistically OP during the last month or two leading up to his rework's release.
No one really ever said, "oh shit, its aatrox" They more often say, "oh shit its....jax...or ugh, tryndamere...fucking yas..." etc
Nobody said "Oh shit, it's Aatrox" because everyone was still in the mindset of Aatrox being a troll pick, because he was a troll pick for ages. Why was he one? Because he was nerfed to the gutter due to being a statcheck and a draintank.
So don't tell me that Aatrox was the problem. The problem was that Riot didn't want to do what needed to be done--tone down his healing in trade for some built in toughness, and turn his ult in a team fight buff.
Those sound like problems inherent to Aatrox's kit. So which is it - was he a problem or was he not a problem?
And, of course, nothing you said contradicted the fact that he was a statcheck.
I see the problem here. You have the word statcheck in you mind as a negative and something only some champions do. The problem is, you saying he is a stat check means nothing to me, its non argument made up by Riot and people on these boards
ANY fucking damage champion when ahead stat checks. its a non argument. I just clearly laid out why Aatrox wasn't a problem for the game. Stat check or not.
All Riot had to do was to reduce his healing, increase his ability to absord, or mitigate incoming damage, revert his E back to magic damage, and make his ult a team fight buff of some kind, and let him move around while reviving like the new aatrox does.
Thats it. Thats all they had to do.
You can't just say "statcheck is meaningless".
It's a shitty design that means the only way to beat it is to have better stats. There is basically no room for them to fuck up, or for you to out-think or outplay them.
Yes, a champion can be a statcheck when fed enough. But there's a difference between "I'm a statcheck when 10/0" and "I'm a statcheck when 10/0, 5/0, 5/2, 2/1, 1/0, 0/1, 2/5, 0/5, 0/10, and all other numbers".
It's bad because there's no skill expression to it. Zero. None. Not for the opponent, and not for the player.
I literally just explained why you dont need better stats to beat Aatrox, and why he fails often late game. You weren't paying attention, or you don't believe me.
Also, buddy, OUT THINKING players is how EVERYONE wins. And that was especially true of Aatrox. You had to play risking MARGINAL LEADS often , and hope you team can calculate your sustain and remember the passive so they don't bail on you when you start a good fight.
Also, once team fights start, it wasnt so easy to just heal up. You had to on the fly, plan who and when you are going to attack to heal as you move towards a carry, or protect your own. Thinking aplenty. Thinking moves ahead.
You still have no god damn idea what you are talking about. Its certainly not coming from a place of personal experience. At least own up to the fact that your opinions on Aatrox are based on what other people have said.

I completely agree with all your comments, good to see someone who gets to an opinion through contemplation. On the surface we might look biased or those who hold the unpopular opinion but it's not true (as people who both played and played against Aatrox and dared critiquing him.) Maybe the fact that there were only so many changes I passionately hated through playing Aatrox paints a bit of a picture that he wasn't such a terrible design and taught the entirety of the game well and with the least possible bias. Other than that by nature I have a tendency to seek truths in the middle, I'm willing to examine and make the other's feelings my own too. If statchecking has been such a huge problem this game would have started out with all champions only having not even say, missable abilities but abilities aimed on the ground. Tryndamere's W is missable as well but I'm pretty sure by the other reasoning it wouldn't be considered skill expressive in the least. DotA Allstars and I think even 2 is extremely statty, but they manage to be really popular and are looked up to by a reasonable sized demographic. Why do adcs still exist in League and why are they so dominant in bot lane? They have a carved out place for them that will only be threatened so rarely. Why are melee basic attackers so frowned upon?

Cheers. With Melee you have to read the game to find ways in. Which means it frustrates some people who just want kills or action, while also being able to exploit people that do not know the game. Old Aatrox in lane was not great, but was impossible to deal with if you didn't know how he worked. Getting rid of melee is like balancing the game around bad players.... Catering to just action, is favoring lower quality gameplay, hence the big downturn the game has had.

I'd be curious how many of these same people like to play rpgs. Or chess lol. Riot just buzzworded this rework and I'm probably gone for good. Since there is no Aatrox anymore I can't not care about the whole state of the game. I'll keep an eye out for the Kayle rework though since she was the champion who introduced the game to me. Sad as it is, I could care less about the kit of this new champ, but even the animation work ended up being cheap. I could write a page about that. If I enjoyed to look at him I'd rise above my preference of the old kit.
P.S.: Are you DarkinPrime as well?

I am just me, not anyone else. I like the game but their disregard for Aatrox fans has been heartbreaking and has had a negative effect on the game.

I feel you. There was that time during the first tease of the rework when Reave I think came to our reddit and then they heeded the most pointless things from us. The quality of the banner wings represents their regard for us. Quoting someone: "toilet paper so I play without them". I don't like their approach to customers.
Okay. So tell me, exactly, how he isn't a statcheck.
Go ahead.
If you get chain-cc'd and have enough tank you live, if you do not, you die. Which is not a stat check. It is a check on your positioning, a check on you reading a good or bad engage, also a check if you built correctly, or picked the right champ. While if you play your champ wrong, that means you might need more stats to make up for you lack of ability? It doesnt. Because in terms of balancing, you have to assume all kits are used correctly. There is no, "well maybe an average player will miss this" so lets give it some extra damage, because then it is grossly unbalanced for all who play it correctly.
Those are just a couple reasons, but match ups matter too. If old hard carry or tank Aatrox Q's into a squishy Ahri that knows how to play her; at the very least she will get away, but is very likely to kill Aatrox too. Same if he walked anywhere around Zoe that wasn't on top of her. Same goes for a Udyr, going into a game he will have to know how to build to take on Aatrox to have his stats go the furthest. Teams also need to know what types of comps to run when playing against a Yi or Aatrox. Against Yi you want hard chain cc
etc, to have the highest probability for success, and Aatrox on top of that you could also just kite him
and/or starve him in lane
. So completing the circle, nothing is really a stat check. Every stat is dependent on your decisions on who you decide to play and how you play it, on top of what you build. Learn the game, everyone good knows all of this. What stat-check really means is your stats dont matter if a hard carry is carrying and in a position to kill you. Checkmate.
Given the topic, I am sure people voted without taking chance to see your sarcasm. Aatrox people who have all been mostly right have been largely discarded and ignored so take the issue slightly more serious
