Just because they kill champions does not mean they are the same thing. A mage brings utility, wave clear an damage to the team. An assassin is not made for teamfights and he just kills the carry or if he is a good one, he split pushes. If they have to team fight they'll have a hard work. This the primary thing. There are others, but I don't wanna list them

Mages have a lot of AOE burst. She is not an assassin at all because her damage as an immobile mage can wreck people.

After the Azir nerfs he cant go in for the insec plays as much as he used to and Orianna is very hard to play and her ult is very easy dodge with flash or a dash and shes not even mobile to be called an assassin. As for Ahri... well that is 100 percent true.
