I don't know, I think Rengar being closer to a bruiser than an assassin gives him a neat dichotomy with Kha'Zix, who leans more towards assassin than bruiser.
Also the fact that Rengar enjoys the hunt more than the kill itself, the pursuit and earning his kill after a grueling battle being what he really seeks in life. To me, that just screams a bruiser who prefers a more drawn-out hunt than an assassin who just gibs his target instantly.
Whether or not his current design does this well or not isn't something I can really comment on.
Fire Repertoir? Funny I could swear the boards were collectively worshipping Repertoir at one point because he was the only Rioter actively talking with the community about his ideas for the champs he was reworking.
His rework failed badly and riot wont admit it, his Q and R with his passive just giving him bonus ad is total failure. For everyone who plays rengar it just makes me sick when i see people build him full ad, just dont. Buy a few tank items and voila, free win, free damage and free front line. [zombie-brand-facepalm]
