Why do people want Renekton buffs

FalconPawwwwnch··82 votes·5,241 views

Do you people not remember when he was played everygame for like a year and a half in pro play and solo q, you know why? Because he has no counterplay

He's oppressive as hell when he's good lol, there's no way to outplay him in lane, he hard ccs you and bursts you then dashes away and you can't do anything

There is no way to play against him for the first 15 minutes of the game in lane, and s3-s4 showed how oppressive he was when he'd autowin lanes with no options for the enemy laner

when renekton was strong, he was probably one of the least opressive toplaners design wise honestly, people could play pretty much whatever they wanted against it and face the following scenario : you're weaker than him in lane, you'll fall behind on farm, but if you don't feed like crazy you'll outscale by level 10 or so (champs like shyvana, jax, etc.) or scenario 2, you're a bigger lane bully than him, and you'll have less teamfight power later on (Old olaf and darius, etc.)

if you want opressive, think of when the likes of riven, irelia, etc. are powerful, these champs, the moment they have a small lead on you, prevent you from ever approaching the minion wave without dying because their all-in power is so strong

You have never played vs a good Renekton.

Renekton players want Renekton buffs. Other people do not.

Baby Ghoul11 votes

Ugh God I know.

The people who are asking for Renekton buffs, or claiming he's not oppressive anymore, should be forced to lane against him game after game as something other than a tank.

He's not a weak pick right now, and he does perfectly fine in the solo queue climbing meta. He's an early game lane bully with high sustain, reliable stun, nice damage, and a safe escape. He doesn't flourish in 5v5s and he falls off late game, which honestly isn't a bad thing when games barely make it to then in ranked.

TBH so many other picks are suffering in top lane, and it's weird seeing so many threads hinting at Renekton buffs when he's in a pretty sweet spot if you like playing him.

Renekton is basically what forced people to start picking ranged top laners in the first place.

The Bíg Ticket10 votes

Yup, totally agree. He used to be an autowin toplane. Of course it is always up to the player to make something out of the lead he will have in the early game by picking Renekton and not fool around for 35+ mins. Good Renekton players still pwn as always.

Yeah why not buff renekton and bring back season 3 level kassadin. Why stop there why not season 2 riven and season 3 zed as well. And just for fun black cleaver talon just to spice things up.

As a guy who's dabbled in Renekton and had my share of lanes against him

Maybe he needs buffs. But please god don't touch his laning phase

brad3 votes

literally who asked for a renekton buff?

just because you saw one thread with 3 upvotes doesnt mean "people" want it, it means that some dude got on his smurfs and upvoted his thread a couple times

Dengeden3 votes

Jax could outplay him level 1 methinks ... then again, he was god tier too.

"Ooh, nice double kill bot, Jax is getting farm though ... dangerous"

"Alright, 15 minutes, time for Jax to win lane"

Gooood times.

Why would Renekton need buffs? He's still pretty dang strong so long as you put in the time to learn the nuances of his kit. Heck he's still my go to top laner. Pfft, falls off late game, only if you don't know how to carry with him.

A Miss Fortune2 votes

I think Renekton needs a small buff, but he doesn't need anything major. He's a great champion right now, insanely good laning phase and he does alright in teamfights. He fall offs late game but he still has CC and plenty of tankiness.

Better toplaner dish out CC than him. I'd personally like something like. R: Active: Slow nearby enemies by 1% for every 2% rage.

that's useless, he's going to use all his rage, more like bringing utility to his team to give him a reason to be played:

while activated: nearby units take bonus damage: 2% to 8% based on how renekton is close to them. Renekton also slow them from 5 to 15% based on how close he is.

400 range

ninjaIRL 2 votes

That's the choice he has to make. If he wants to stun the target then he's going to have to use his rage. But if his stun is on CD at least he has some CC for sticking to the target.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

I think they should just change his ult. It's not the best by just giving him health on a fairly high cooldown. Maybe give him movement speed towards enemy champions and like 20 extra AR/MR? It just feels so random and not that great. Nasus has the same thing except he gets more range and more damage.

ninjaIRL 1 votes

I think Renekton gets more range on his abilities as well.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

It is still a lackluster ult when compared to Nasus's. Nasus gets max health damage compared to Renekton's base damage and while Renekton gets increased fury generation it is still gated by CD's and such so being at max fury faster doesn't mean much when all your abilities are on cd. Honestly I wish Renekton's ult gave the bonus AD attached to it instead of Nasus who....doesn't scale at all with AD (one scaling ability that does absurd damage regardless of how much ad you have if you get later in the game).

ninjaIRL 1 votes

Their kits are really different. I think one way of looking at it is that Nasus doesn't deal as much AoE ambient damage unless you are going AP and maxing Spirit Fire which typically doesn't happen. People go for the late game Q stacking Nasus who's unkillable and can one-two shot anyone that happens to get in front of them including towers.

Renekton deals a lot of AoE. His Q affects everyone around him and he's generally more effecient when he's surrounded by a lot of enemy targets, i.e. minions, pets etc. His E gives him a surprising amount of mobility plus, unlike Nasus he gets a hard CC in his kit (not that Wither is weak at all). Pointing all of this out, this is probably why Renekton's ultimate isn't powerful, in damage, than Nasus's.

Jbels2 votes

The only thing I want for Renekton is better late game sustain. If Darius gets to have more Damage than Renekton early and late, AND be able to gain a shit ton of health back every Q (Which is on a laughably short cooldown at that point)just for standing in the middle of the enemy team(also something Renekton does) Renekton should be able to have a bit more sustain in teamfights

FistOfSharkiesha2 votes

I don't see why it's okay for Riven to be an early game monster than can completely deny nearly any champion in the game CS, but the far less mobile Renekton is barely more powerful than her and not nearly as mobile. You can pick an immobile mage like Vlad into Renekton and win easily. With 1 short dash (assuming you are far away enough to not be hit by the first), he's not going to be catching up to anyone anytime soon.

I mean Riven is just a fractionally weaker Renekton that can kill ranged champions in seconds. You counter Renekton by keeping distance, you counter Riven by losing massive amounts of CS. When you're behind 50 CS that early-lategame transition where you're supposed to outscale her just doesn't happen.

Meep Man2 votes

The only buff I agree on is the no Fury consumption if his E doesn't hit a champion. Thats annoying.

Otherwise, yes, no buffs. I remember THOSE times. The Renekton Bar.

This is what I believe to be most problematic about him. He dashes to you, stuns you, heals off you, then dashes out before the stun wears off. He just took half your health while you were stunned and couldn't fight back, it's the definition of a zero-counterplay combo. He's also very good at turret diving thanks to his ult and mobility so often just cowering under your turret won't help you against him like it does against other lane bullies.

Maybe it's because i'm playing Nasus but even now I feel like Renekton has an unbearably abusive early game that has almost no counterplay, so I don't have any problem with him falling off like a rock later on.

These people who want Renekton buffs are the salty ones that DID main Renekton and loved winning every game.

Old Man Teeto2 votes

True, but at the same time do you enjoy fighting Darius, Fiora, Fizz, Garen, Gangplank more than Renekton?

At least you knew that Ren would fall off and you could play back for 15 minutes.

Theres a reason why top lane is called the renekton bar.

AbrahamBaconham5 votes

The "Renekton bar" wasn't a term for Top lane itself, rather it was a measurement of a top-laner's early power. During season 3, Renekton was sort of like the Vayne of toplane; though he wasn't actually all that powerful, most other toplaners had been crippled by repeated nerfs, leaving Renekton with little to no competition. After a few months of this, Riot vowed to bring toplaners back up to Renekton's level, as they deemed him to be at an appropriate power level when compared to other champions in other lanes. Thus, the "Renekton Bar."

Riot later went back on this vow, as instead of buffing 85% of toplaners, they simply decided to nerf Renekton instead, thus lowering the "Renekton Bar" and solidifying toplane as a purely stagnant and rather useless position; "The Island."

It was only with the Summoner Spell overhaul that toplaners actually became relevant again, by means of the reworked Teleport.

Immediately after the Renekton nerfs, we had wet noodle fights for a year as Mundo and Shyvana sat around doing nothing.

Was such a joke after the bruiser bloodbaths of the Olaf, Riven, Jax, Tryn, Irelia era.

Cephelapoid1 votes

I play alot of Renekton and I can absolutely say, 100% he does not need any buffs. Thats absurd.

I feel safe in lane, if I want a kill I get a kill, if I dont want to die, I dont die. Hes is quite easy to play, has great sustain, great damage and tankynes.

And im not even a "great" Rene, im just "good".

Dont buff him. He doesnt need it one bit.

ninjaIRL 1 votes

He needs a buff to his usefulness in fights. Other heavy bruisers/tanks like him have more CC in their kit, or generally have stronger CC. He needs a slightly noticeable ambient slow that's tied to his ultimate. Something that I think would be really cool and would fit with his general style of play is: 1% slow of nearby enemies for every 2% rage that is not being used in Renekton. So the way the ability would work is that it would get stronger the more rage he has to a point where he has strong ambient CC (50% slow). The trade-off is that the player will have to choose if he wants to spend his abilities to kill or hard CC the target or give some help for his team mates to chase that target down.

Voila, he is now useful to his teammates without being overly OP.

Renekton is fine, and strong. You can build him so many different ways and he's still strong. He's not a champion that is confined to ONE specific build that deviates rarely like some other champs have. Renekton is a threat as is, and if people think he needs a buff then they're not playing him right.

Ser Garland1 votes

Renekton's like a pre nerf Kassadin. I'm surprised they haven't taken away his stun.

Because the state of top lane is SO BAD now that people miss the days when it was the Renekton bar

Visigoth1 votes

Because Darius is practically season 3-4 renekton with more damage and more heal. So people would rather just fight Renekton instead of a Renekton that gets to scale into late game and 1v5

DrNova1 votes

Not exactly true. Ren has his dash which let him trade hard and get out, usually always winning trade. Darius has no movement.

Dediguise1 votes

Renekton needs a juggernaut update. Because he is one. He should be able to stand up to Darius and Garen. That is all

Sasogwa1 votes

For some reason, when he was strong, Renekton reminds me of face hunter from hearthstone.

RIP Tahm Kench1 votes

Season 3, 4, and 5 pre-juggernaut rework I loved playing Darius against Renekton. There was very little Renekton could do if he didn't save his double dash to run away because a single dash left him in range of Darius's pull.

So for me, Renekton was never a problem in lane unless something really bad happened like a gank that snowballed him, but that applies to probably 70% of top laners.
