Miss Fortune's all over the place...

tl;dr: All I'm wondering is this: What is going to happen with Miss Fortune? Her E is only used for the slow, but makes her stop to cast it, her main early harass tool is tied to a late game stat, and her recent buffs push her to an auto-attack playstyle, but her passive encourages switching targets which is strange for an auto-attacking adc. She should be a spellcasting, teamfighting adc. It's also frustrating that her average strength is tied to lethality's strength.

I play MF both as an adc and as Mage Fortune. To my knowledge, Mage Fortune was never that popular, but it is fun to play. This post isn't only about Mage Fortune, but a lot of the nerfs/changes made to her has hurt that playstyle. It would be one thing if the changes made sense, but many conflict with what her playstyle should be.

The E nerf (90 base damage at max rank) during the adc rework made that ability only a slow zone. The reworked q, to reduce it's power with lethality, makes her lane bully identity weaker. She's being pushed to an auto-attack focused adc, but her passive is only good for the first shot unless she's switching targets, which an auto-attacking adc shouldn't do. Plus there will always be better auto-attack adcs than MF. If her passive could be reset by her q, regardless of whether it bounced or not, that would make more sense for that direction, but wouldn't make sense as an ability.

Honestly, it feels her kit is made of two different champion ideas. Her passive and w feel good for an auto-attack focused adc, (like trist), but her e and ult feel better as a teamfight oriented adc. Her q could fit onto either, really. Looking at the other adc's, they all have good identities that fit them. Trist is a tower taker and in your face, Sivir excels at wave clear and teamfights, Cait is a long range, zoning adc, Jhin and Ashe are long range utility, though very different, Kog'maw is a time bomb of hyperscaling, etc.

Her old kit had better synergy with itself. It just had problems with scaling. Impure Shots could come back and replace Love Tap as her passive to give her better teamfighting ability. It could be a reason to lower damage on her q bounce and ult, which many people complain about when she's strong. Her E would have a better use than a slow zone, since it would apply stacks of Impure Shots, and it would give her magic damage on her kit again, which I always thought was really cool for an adc. Only Kog'maw and Corki really have that.

Just so long as she scales better than pre-rework, but isn't overbearing with chunking half your health with 1 q in lane. I like her early lane bully playstyle, but there's a limit. She could even be viable mid with these changes, like corki and, to some extent, lucian.

well we riot removed impure shots they were like "some people thought she was this blank but we think shes this so fuck her player base and fuck what you people think" or at least that's how the message comes across i thouhgt she was a duelist that could out duel anyone but i guess i was wrong and riot is always right

I feel exactly the same way. Miss Fortune has always been one of my go-to adc's whenever i play that role and it pains me to see her in this in between state where Riot can't seem to make up their mind on how they want her to play. I've enjoyed both build styles but I just want them to commit to one or the other. Crit was fun before her mini rework during the bilgewater event, but ever since then lethality has been the way to go. I think she could use another small scale rework imo.

Hi there fellow MF main. I am an MF main of probably like 500 games now combined of last season and this season. I've been through it all from the E max thunderlords cancer to the armor pen cancer of last season to now. I peaked Plat 2 last season and most of that was done abusing Miss Fortune.

I don't understand much of your points. For one, mage fortune is not viable. It's fun in shit like ARAM, but if you do this on rift you are borderline trolling. All her abilities are physical damage besides the E. This means that even though her abilities do have AP ratios and you get something out of your AP on all of them, you have to build physical armor pen to to abuse them. Building sorcs or liandry's basically only makes her E do more damage with the magic pen. Its VERY inefficient. Her can chunk people to shit if you go full ap and its huge range. but it also has an obscene cooldown for being your ONLY ability that will be doing a lot of damage. Even though your ult will hit decently with AP, why have one "ok" ability and one "good, but not great" ability when you can just build AD, play the exact same champion and be far more efficient. I don't judge people who want to play it, but it should never be considered as a playstyle in terms of working on her kit or balance. If you play it, you play it solely because its fun to you.

To say her kit is not cohesive makes little to no sense. Everything about her kit goes together perfectly.

Q and passive are good laning tools.

She has strengths and weaknesses because of the way her kit works. She is basically going to be strong if she swaps targets, and weaker if she doesn't, but she can also have a window of strength on a single target if she chooses to use her steroid on mowing down that target. The downside is she lowers her OVERALL dps by doing that.

Because she is immobile (weakness) and has a short auto range (also weakness) this means she is constantly waiting for a good ult and has to abuse her windows to auto attack very well. An instant press 100% attack speed steroid is perfect for her playstyle as when you go in you want go ham and hit as many people as you can for as much damage as you can. You aren't necessarily worried about mowing down that single target, but if you have to play like a regular adc and primarily mow one person down, you can choose to do that because her kit is set up for it.

The E is her only form of "self peel". It has GREAT synergy with her W. You throw an E down on someone, refresh your strut passive on W and you are zooming out of there while they are slowed. And it doesn't make her "mobile" either because a true diver doesn't care about the slow field they will just dash through it if you are mis positioned and fuck you.

I mean I don't get this at all. Her entire kit goes together so well. The old MF was so fucking awful to play. Impure shots didn't feel satisfying at all to use and the old ult did basically zero damage. It also did magic damage I believe? No one wants old MF back, the new one is way more cohesive. Passive works with Q, works with W. the E works with W and Ult (E can slow them for a full duration ult or close to it) and the Ult is her defining ability that gives you a reason to play her over all the other ADCs.

She's completely fine the way she is. She has defined strengths and weaknesses. She's just overtuned in some ways and undertuned in others right now. that's the only issue. Her passive and Q are just too strong and her base ad scaling and sustained dps are a little too low. take some power out of Q and passive and give her more sustained damage and she will feel better.

But even then I'm ok with her as she is now. She's great.

This is a very good analysis of MF and unfortunately everything you've said has already been stated going as far back as patch 5.22 :(

In Rito's "Marksman" update, they looked to create too many "unique" identities and in doing so, ruined over half of the champs they fucked with. MF became an R-bot, which was their intended design, but the rest of her kit is inherently counter-intuitive to ADC design. For Quinn, they tried making her more "unique" by attempting to make her more UNIFORM(wtaf???). Graves became an overtuned nightmare and was completely moved OUT of the ADC role and into the jungle. Kog'Maw speaks for himself at this point...

Let's also not forget that Meddler himself publicly stated that every class rework to date have been failures.

Varus has a lot of magic damage in his kit. Perhaps you should play him.
