Maokai was nerfed for the same reasons that Jinx needs to be nerfed. (Patch Rundown 5.17)
Before I'm downvoted, please read the reasoning behind the title and watch the patch rundown, it brings a lot of information that needs to be applied to all roles with the "Maokai" issue.
In the Patch Rundown of 5.17, the guys talked about how Maokai was "uncounterable" and generally a safe blind pick in the competitive scene. I feel Jinx is the same way in Solo Queue. Zirene mentioned the safety of picking Maokai based on his own experiences. If he was forced to top and go away from his jungler role, he used Maokai. Jinx is the "Maokai" for a lack of a better term of the ADC role. If your're first pick and you are forced into the ADC role that you're unfamiliar with? Pick Jinx. Are you a seasoned ADC veteran who is looking to carry a game? Pick Jinx. There really isn't a bad time to pick
. Her counters have been nerfed and on top of that she has the utility of
and a late game that rivals
. Why would you not pick her?
Like Maokai, who is safe and brings everything a top laner would want/need (sustain, dmg reduction, utility and CC lockdown) Jinx brings OODLES of power to the table that ADC's drool to have (AS steroid, aoe %hp execute, AA range steroid, waveclear, conditional movespeed boost and utility in forms of a snare and a powerful reveal slow). Because she brings all of this power and has the early game safety of a
, while enjoying the late game power of
she needs to see changes. She's crowding out picks like
because of how "safe" of a pick she is. While Jinx has basically no mobility besides a conditional steroid, I'd argue that she's still safer than
because of her superior range, CC and range steroids. You can punish even Caitlyn early game with the stupid AoE rockets that cost little to nothing.
I'm not here to advocate the "nerf, until death" but Jinx needs some changes. She's crowding out picks because of the sheer power her kit brings, while scaling harder than the majority of the ADC roster. She either needs nerfs or
need buffs. You choose.
