Is Tryndamere a candidate for a rework?

Masala Chai··25 votes·21,101 views

His kit is old, stale, and has little to no counterplay. The only effective way to deal with him is to either counterpick him (Jax Rammus NasusTeemo Kayle ) or build item 3047 item 3143 item 3075.

I wish that there was more to Tryndamere than just splitpushing, because he's a god amazing split pusher and duelist, but at the same time makes teamfights a 4v5. And you often will need more than just 1 person to duel him out due to the fact that his ultimate give him 6 seconds to do whatever the hell he wants unless he got hard cced.

Overall an unenjoyable experience to play with and play versus.

We would like to get to him one day for sure. Not sure in what context. He's probably a ways off from being a high priority for a full VGU but he could possible be in a class update when we get around to Slayers.

you mean Skirmishers?

Yes, Skirmishes

@Reav3, what do skirmishers exactly do during teamfights?

Usually they don't.

When you do get around to him, remember that though Tryndamere is now practically synonymous with split pusher, it wasn't always so. Old Tryndamere veterans still try to team fight with him at times, and wish he were better at it.

RiotMeddler9 votes

I think any sizeable update to Trynd would have to include 'At least tolerable ability to engage in team fights' as one of its core goals. Good at split pushing can be a healthy champion identity, only able to split push by contrast tends not to work out too well.

Nasus is another champion that hardly teamfights. Inexperienced nasus players will try to teamfight but they will slowly realize it is not a very fun experience. Any plans for him ?

Reikken1 votes

Nasus does teamfight. But only after 40 minutes.

Jabberwöcky2 votes

Only bad Nasus's team fight at 40minutes.

Usually im at 350 stacks at 20ish minutes. With already a few towers under my belt (After i get my tier 1, especially tier 2 tower, i jump into different lanes and push them so my bot can roam mid.)

TheOvermind1 votes

Ye ok bro, go teamfight vs a 6 item adc with a mortal reminder and get cc the moment you get close to anyone and then get melted. Nasus sucks at teamfight ing every nasus main knows this.

Reikken1 votes

Yeah if you and your team are doing it wrong. It varies from game to game, but chances are you're tankier than anyone else in the game, and if anyone else is tankier, they certainly have way less damage. If your team can't make use of that, then no, you aren't going to teamfight. But in my experience they usually can.

Also adc doesn't have 6 items at 40 minutes.

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about

Can you help me understand this? Tryndamere can go invulnerable and wack people in team-fights, he can also slow fleeing enemies or reduce AD, how is he not a decent team fighter?

Because despite having excellent base stats, he is so damn squishy that he dies extremely fast or has to flee his tail between his legs after poping his ultimate. Also, because he is melee, any slow / hard CC will destroy him (destroy = having to use his ultimate before doing any meaningful damage).

Yes, he CAN be efficient in TF under the right circumstances. But he will have to adopt an assassin-pattern approach, aka flank the ennemy team after they used most of his CC. If he doesn't flank or if the ennemy team didn't use most of their CC, he will be extremely useless. Unless he is overfed of course.

I think Tryndamere is a really healthy champion at the moment. His kit is predictable but not easily countered. He is simple to play and learn, but harder to play well. He is a great champion for players that are learning the game and the top lane. I also think his ultimate is the healthiest of the "not dying ultimate".

Ralanr6 votes

I really can't see how he can ever be healthy.

Swiftstrike41 votes

Players in lower Elo do have trouble dealing with him. That's also because teamfights are incredibly uncoordinated. People don't recognize when to disengage the champion.

Devorta1 votes

Check out "Myw" and "Alderiate". Those are Master/Chall EUW players, the first one is an adc/top laner (only trind top) and Alderiate mostly plays Jax /Olaf /Tryndamere . Recently Alderiate climbed unranked to master on a smurf just with those three, including trynd. So he is heatlhy summoner 7 :)

Ralanr1 votes

That doesn't make him healthy. That just means someone climbed with him.

Every fight with him is a stat check match. He is a ball of stats that lowers your own stats for an advantage.

Trynadameres ult is the only reason why hes useful and that ult is so retarded

Swiftstrike41 votes

His spin is a fantastic escape for split-pushing. I think his ultimate is pretty easy to deal with if you hold your CC until after he uses it. Players in lower Elo (Low Silver and Bronze) I know have a very hard time dealing with him. This is because teamfights are pretty uncoordinated and people don't really disengage very often.

I feel like his success diminishes as player begin to recognize how the champion play in higher levels. I main top and he is probably one of my favorite match-ups because he is fairly simple and predictable to play around.

I feel like this is starting to turn into a cop out answer. "Why isn't Nocturne getting updated?" "Uh, we'll maybe get to him in a diver update." "Is Tryndamere about ready for an update?" "Uh, we'll maybe get to him in a skirmisher update." "Could Yasuo get some changes in the assassin update?" "No, if he gets work it'll be in a fighter update."

Getting kinda old tbh fam

Well, it's not like you can just say "let's do this" and snap your fingers. It takes a giant amount of time to do it right.

And "right" isn't always right the first time.

I rarely ask Riot anything, but for Tryndamere, I will make an exception, which can be summed up in three words : Please. Do. Not.

If he is gonna be reworked maybe something other than his current ult if he will have some more focus on group fighting than just pure split pushing. Because 6 seconds on OP-ness in a group fight is a very strong ult to have to pay attention to for that long of a time.

Hi Reav3 xD, just your weird trynd main 2 years in the future here.. What happend? i mean hell yall just got aatrox updated, now would be the best time to say "OHH HEY aatrox is lit now, how about the guy who he CREATED get some lovin." like i mean yalls 2011 rework was mostly taking the updated graphics from Demonblade and putting it all on other skins.. :> pliz respond im desperate to make trynd great again

All splitpushers make a teamfight 4v5. Thats why the team is supposed to stall, not hard engage

TheRealMondo3 votes

but Trynd is basicly only a split pusher. 9/10 times ingame he will split push. 1/10 he feeds

I love that about him, I really hate all these new champs, that are super complex. I dont' have the im so good snobbery that makes me play champs like Zed in silver......Trynd is very fun to play and if you don't like it, there are a million other champs.

Ralanr3 votes

He really should be imo.

FrickendaChicken3 votes

He forces fights into 3v4s, not 4v5s, as you either send 2 people or he gains an objective and a kill. The only real way to make Tryndamere into a teamfighter is to turn him into a Juggernaut/More Focused Bruiser. For example, giving him more damage the more enemy champions come near him and removing critical strikes from his kit. There are many other ideas that get rid of many of his other abilities that's just simply a piece of his kit that can be changed to make it more teamight focused.

Nogavis1 votes

I agree with the first part of your comment, but I disagree with your suggestion. He has a really strong 1v1 thanks to his 5 seconds "window" where you can just try to get time and survive, especially devastating agaisnt squishies. Put him more damage when he is 1v3/1v4 ... more people often means more CC. More CC means you can't DPS as much, plus it makes it harder to focus only one enemy. Meaning you would give him damage that he couldn't use.

Why would you turn him into a sub-Darius when he can just be Tryndamere ?

FrickendaChicken1 votes

1v3/1v4 wouldn't be how he'd played if Riot changed his kit to what I had above, as it simply wouldn't work. He would enter Teamfights and be a bigger threat the more conflict he gets in to.

So you are basically saying that the reason why the champion exists (being a 1v1 monster, but having a weak teamfight, and being thanks to his sustain and his farming capacity the best splitpusher in the game) should be removed to make him a teamfighter, and weaker in duels ?

You clearly didn't understand the champion. Or, rather, you understand the champion and talk about it as if his gameplay was a mistake. Now what, you think he is frustrating ? Have you ever played against Tahm Kench, Poppy just after her rework, or other "one shotting tanks" ? How can you be so frustrated against a champion without any hard CC, vulnerable to exhaust/CC, that relies so much on his ultimate ?

No, indeed, he isn't a teamfight beast. But he still can flank, and force a lot of things on himself. And above all, the moment someone picks Tryndamere, OF COURSE he is going to splitpush. Hey, what do you think ? That everyone needs to play Malphite and farm up until you can group and ulti ? A strong aspect of League of Legends in my opinion is that there are many different kind of champions, hence many kind of gameplays and playstyles. As the meta evolves, some get better during a few patches, some weaker, and so on. But some players, especially in soloqueue, feel confident mainly on a certain kind of champions, like mid lane long ranged poke champions, aggressive AP supports, utilitary tanks, afk farmer hypercarries, snowball roaming assassins ...

I, for myself, enjoy the splitpush playstyle, with champions such as Jax, Shen, Yasuo, and above all Tryndamere. Yes, I enjoy splitpushing. Would you deny a player to play what he can and likes to play ? Or would you rather champions get uniformized so they all fit one single playstyle meant for teamfights, as you seem to suggest.

No, I am clearly opposed to a Tryndamere rework. Especially since I assume, reading the author, that he isn't himself a Tryndamere player, and that he can suggest such a thing feels even more unhealthy.

Thanks for reading.

Never said Tryndamere takes no skill, that being said he is pretty easy to pick up.

WoonStruck1 votes

Those aren't good mechanics, its just decent decision-making.

The only 'mechanics' Tryn can really apply are orbwalking, critting minions while walking past them to reset the CD of his spin faster, and short-ranged spins to deal CC and damage without giving up dps.

Only if Ashe approves. Last time he got a buff without her input he got the couch for a week.

Reiofsunshine1 votes

I actually agree with you heavily and have even gone as far to put quite a bit of time into a concept for a tryndamere update.

If this could speed up even slightly the rate at which he gets reworked I would be happy. I just hate his current kit. People say "it makes it easy for beginners", but I feel with Garen and Darius are much better than that as despite his easy kit, he needs very specific items. If riot buffs him, he would be too op. I think he just needs a complete kit redo.
