"Klepto is the problem" (Ezreal)

No, Klepto isn't the problem. Legit how many times do we have to go over this. Remember when ezreal abused runeglaive? And then remember everything else he has ever abused? It. Isnt. The, Rune. It. Is. The, Champion Seriously do we have to wait 3 more seasons to realize it is him?

Klepto is a little too potent, but I agree this is just another case of Ezreal being the reason we can't have nice things.

I don't think people realize the strength of this rune on corki mid tho.

He deals 100 damage with Qs at level 1 without Muramana, so either Ezreal has too much damage now that armor and MR runes don't exist anymore (except for tanks) or his Q is bugged in more ways than that.

Tzuyu Is My Bias13 votes

easy 100 damage at lvl 1 isn't very uncommon though.

MangelinaJolie3 votes

On a single ability? Whom else that can fire and forget with substantial range?

Remlap122310 votes

Look, I agree Ezreal is bullshit again, but can we stop pretending his Q doesn't have any counterplay, like I dunno, shields, heals, Braum tanking it, minion waves, or even, GASP, SIDESTEPPING?

Flashes3 votes

Dodging is above bronze play I can't do that

SeductiveGrandpa1 votes

Dodging is above silver play, golds can probably do it.

Dokueki Kenshin3 votes

How about Jhin, on every 4th auto? That CAN’T be minion blocked?

Ezreal is the case study, yes, but overall, caster ADCs are doing better in general. Games are ending in the mid-game range more frequently, when early/mid game champions are strongest.

Tzuyu Is My Bias1 votes

Some examples of strong level one abilities;

Ahri double hit is 80 base damage, often having enough AP at level one to push that to 100 AOE.

Anivia Q can double hit for 120 base damage at level one (AoE) and includes a stun, an experienced Anivia player often hits them.

Annie Q has 80 base damage with always enough AP to push that to 100, and it is point and click with a short cooldown.

Even more obnoxious than Annie Q is Pantheon Q with even shorter cooldown and even more potential damage.

I don't know if Azir counts but soldiers have a 60 base damage so even without AP that is 120 damage with 2 hits, technically AOE.

Caitlyn Q has a 30 base damage with 130% total AD scaling so that is almost always over 100.

Darius Q is the same way as Cait Q with base AD alone taking it to over 100 damage AOE, with healing.

If we count auto attack based abilities like Azir soldiers, Draven Q can take his auto attacks to over 100 at level one. Auto attacks are not dodgeable like Ez Q, and have "less cooldown" obviously.

Ekko Q double hit is 100 base damage AOE.

These were only some examples of easy ways to land over 100 damage at level one, and do not account the new runes which add even more damage, and do not account abilities like Miss Fortune Q bonus damage which can go to 150 or more and Fiddlesticks drain which has a base damage of 400 damage at level one over the full duration.

Wow. Comet is weaker than I thought, too. Are people just not using it on mages with CC? Are they trying to take it on people who should be taking Aery? Hmm.

Quepha3 votes

Those are only stats for Ezreal. Comet and Lethal Tempo make no sense on him so it's expected for him to do poorly with them.

MangelinaJolie2 votes

Which remains as a problem of interaction and not necessarily the rune itself.

No glacial????

That slow allows building triforce instead of IG consistently.

Here is the fix to Klepto - make it proc off of an attack that occurs between .5 seconds and 10 seconds after hitting an enemy with an ability.

That way Ez Q and GP Q (not broken btw but would still be affected) won't simultaneously enable and proc Klepto.

This is a pretty great idea!

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

It wouldn't completely solve the issue, because Ezreal's projectile speed is relatively slow, but it'd at least force him to both land his Q and an AA afterwards rather than just free Q poke,

NichtHurz1 votes

Not sure this would work out as intended. This could screw over champions where it'd be unproblematic and possibly a favourite keystone, but have too low projectile speed to use it reliably.

Jefftiffy3 votes

For the love of god all you guys are so ignorant. Runeglaive was a problem because it was garbage on everyone but Ezreal because most AP junglers don't AA that frequently if at all and it was really clunky on them.

Iceborn gauntlet was too strong on ranged champions in general. So it got made worse on ranged champions by making it inherently a tank item (a normally all melee class).

Klepto is stupid strong on ranged champions. IDK if you play anything other than GP and Ezreal with it. But it's pretty stupid busted on champs like Nami and Lulu. Literally just gives them free stuff for doing their job in lane. I literally have dueled an ADC to the death and won because I had 2 elixirs up and an extra skill point as Nami support. End of game comes up and I had almost as much gold as my ADC with almost no kills. You nerf Ezreal then the lights going to blind you when you realize it wasn't just him abusing it, he was just the most visible as the only ADC to use it.

bleufromage3 votes

As an ez main hes either useless or overpowered even without changing a single thing in his kit. As far as adcs he's on level with Vayne for shitty waveclear. So that's a weakness and he's not a hard carry like Vayne late game. What I think is the problem is his w is pretty useless so he has to have a ton of power in his q. Having the dmg (on hit), low cd, and stacking attack speed on his q is necessary for him to function because his w is useless on ezreal unless he is going ap(and I love the hell out of his w when I play ap ez). And don't say he can use his e to boost his own attackspeed with his w. Because that is a waste of mana and cd on all of his abilities for a little as. And the as from is w on his team mates doesn't make sense for an adc. So if you make it so ez w has more power/utility you can take something away from that q (maybe the on hit proc).

Two potential answers.

1.Increase Kelptomancy's cooldown to make it less spammy.

  1. Nerf the effect on range champions. This by itself has two ways.

A: Remove the bonus attack range for ranged champions. B: Decrease the change of getting bonus items as a range champion.

My only concern is that it would hurt mages that might like kleptomany, so in hindsight, the first option would probably be the best one out of what I've suggested.

I don't think we should continue destroying good things in an effort to keep "healthy champions" from abusing "unhealthy goodies."

Ya'know, unless you want to continue seeing diversity suffer. The dude does break a couple items every season, just saying.

Rozzeta2 votes

Or we could have it so Ezreal's Q no longer applies on hit effects. Considering how many items had to be nerfed/removed/changed just to prevent him from abusing them with his Q, I think that might be the major offender.

And then Ezreal becomes completly trash. Not a good plan.

Krinu2 votes

The problem isn't the rate of return on kleptomancy; it's how quickly, safely, and easily Ezreal can get those returns with his Q.

BoNaFiDeOuTkAsT2 votes

I guess ezreal gets nerfed...

...but klepto will probably just receive a cooldown.

Make it only work if you got a support item

Jaspers1 votes

Will make little different to the item 3303 GP thing. They just need to lessen the gold earned, that's the simple solution. Supports will be fine as they existed with little gold to begin with but the extra items, extra ward here and there is more important to them.

Because that's what a whole class of already weak and poor characters need. a power down because one - two character (not part of that group) can abuse an item.

NichtHurz1 votes

Poor? Yes! Weak? Naaah. Supports currently have such high impact, even without their adc. Most of the champs I'm really pissed off about right now are supports ._.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Ok Klepto on GP and a 5 minute sheen is pretty obnoxious too

jacobnipples2 votes

Anyone half decent at GP would tell you Klepto is overrated. Super situational. Only good into tanks without kill pressure you can abuse with qs (see Maokai, Shen, Malphite).

Even then it isn't THAT good because GP isn't often using q on someone outside on lane (Also why shiv is a little overrated, not as good as PD). So you only use it for MAYBE the first 15/20 minutes of a slow game. Ezreal is a problem because its attached to his bread and butter ability that he can use constantly all of the time, in teamfights. Even outside of the sheer gold it gives, mid fight pots and elixirs are a big deal.

Klepto is fine on literally everyone but Ezreal. Its really fun to use and It would be a shame to see it gutted cause of that turd gherkin. Thats my two cents anyway.

nelogis2 votes

Actually thats true, after playing like 30 games of Klepto-GP i realized that this is just not good. Even against braindead-tanks its just decent

Im finding way more sucess with Electrolute - GP, though i will also try Aery and Comet (Never going to play that abomination of a Tankplank with Grasp).

Also Spellthieves gives you all the gold you need. Seriously it gives more than Klepto (if you dont count the initial cost of 150g). And you dont have to waste a whole Keystone slot for it

Kloqdq2 votes

I run Grasp personally but that's because I rock brusier GP. Spellthieves grab is amazing though. That's where majority of the passive gold gain comes from.

Faceroll Tactics2 votes

NEACE is a high elo gangplank player, much better than Tobias and he straight up said that you can’t succeed in high elo unless you’re rocking bruiser plank, damage gp plateaus around mid diamond, just look at Tobias’ smurf’s winrate pre diamond 2 then after

Azadethe1 votes

Problem with Spellthief on an Ez or GP is it goes on a practically indefinite cooldown if you're actually csing. The new Spellthief has a mechanic that makes the cooldown on the next charge longer every time you kill a minion. I used to take it on Karma top to poke, but found out that about the only times I could get charges of Spellthief, was when I recalled to base, which gave me like 40 sec to reset the charges while walking back.

nelogis1 votes

you get it for the bandit passive which is active 100% of the time, just the tribute stacks are limited

as soon as you Q a guy as GP you get +10g from the passive of spellthieves instead of +20 when you would have had stacks

Azadethe1 votes

I know how bandit works. However, if you only get a Spellthief for the occasional Parrrley, you have to justify 2 things: Redeeming the 350-800 gold you're going to spend (takes 35 Bandit hits, assuming you're a good cser), and the fact the ST put you behind on buying a Trinity/IE in game time (GP needs as soon as possible, or other people snowball him).

ST was much more viable when the cooldown didn't add 8 seconds per minion kill. Now, it might break even or give you an extra 200g over the duration of the game beyond its cost.

Honestly, a Coin would probably be better than a Spellthief, because it gives you +25/40 g every time you score a takedown, as well as missed minions, and has no cooldown criteria, and still has Bandit. If you have 35 kills you took part of, that alone is 875G, plus the occasional minion misses (if you upgrade it, 1400g, net gain 25g after cost, not including missed minions that proc coins which happens a lot in a team lane trying to group). And, it's not like Talisman of Ascension is a bad thing on a GP either, given 90% of his game is fought in lanes.

Klepto is a huge problem top lane. Ranged champions have such an insane advantage against melee champions with this rune that it just isn't fair.

Winterwings2 votes

Taking Klepto on a ranged champion top lane (which is most likely squishy as heck, and doesn't contribute to team comp as much as other top lane picks could) sounds... incredibly stupid... with the notable exception of Gangplank

You have a keystone which basically says "I have to win early and translate my gold lead or its game over" matched vs what will probably be a far better keystone choice for in-combat...

Just my 2 cents...

Hawkefire1 votes

Gnar Swain Both of those champions work really well with klepto. Hell, I bet that Vlad would also work pretty good with it too.

Durzaka1 votes

Gnar is MUCH MUCH better off taking PtA than Klepto.

Hawkefire1 votes

You are probably right, but PtA is also really damn strong, overpowered strong imho with its current iteration. In fact, it is fairly likely that it will be heavily nerfed come next patch cycle (and if it doesn't I will question Riots sanity). Doesn't really change the fact that Klepto is really solid on Gnar though.

Durzaka1 votes

Gnar might be able to use Klepto, but he doesnt want it.

He needs to push his advantage starting at level 2. Otherwise he cant take control of the lane and hes going to lose.

Klepto is playing too much towards the farming lane that Gnar doesnt want.

Hawkefire1 votes

Gnar scales really really well with gold, and Klepto gives him a lot of gold early on. On top of that, it can give him other bonuses in the form of potions which can give him an advantage in certain situations (although that is more RNG based). Basically, while Klepto doesn't do as much damage as other options, it doesn't actually sacrifice laning potential to do so, and allows Gnar to hit his mid-game / late-game much much quicker, especially against opponents that are unable to retaliate.

Durzaka1 votes

Kleptos long term gold gain is very good.

But it is NOT worth losing the trading/dueling power of PtA early on.
