I don't think people understand just how bad energy can be, sure it might be helpful in the laning phase but it is not worth the intense gating it inflicts on Zed once mid/late game happens.
So before you ask for riot to give Zed mana just know you are asking to buff him.
The same way

Without energy, Zed would be nothing. He'd be like Ekko in a lane. He'd be unable to snowball, and then he'd have to drop damage to buy mana. He wouldn't be able to burst, you wouldn't even have to get Zhonya's against him.
Go play Ekko without using his w and see what mana-Zed is really like.
No, actually giving him mana would weaken his laning and that's the huge problem people have with zed - the feeling you can do nothing about him, which is true, all you can and have to do is deny him kills - but that is a really awefull lane experience.
Imagine Zed using 1/3 of his pool in one WEQ (or Fizz style 1/2 [would not be fair due to doran]).... a Zed who actually had to land more than a third of his Qs to win lane. x'D
Only problem left, Zed is a Ninja... they dont use mana, that's why this will never happen. =P (I'm sad)
Zed with mana would weaken his laning but the late game spammability you would get would shift Zed's power by an insane amount
A lot of Zed outplays are only usable with blue buff to help you with e's and q's
