One thing I would like to see from the Vanguard update...

...is a new Passive for Leona.

Leona is the only support in the game classified as a Vanguard (Taric, Braum and TK are Wardens, and Thresh is.....well.....Thresh), and there is only one reason, and one reason alone why Leona is only ever played as a support, that being her passive.

If you don't know, this is Leona's current passive:

Sunlight Leona's abilities each mark enemies hit with Sunlight for 3.5 seconds. Any damage dealt by ally champions will consume Sunlight, dealing 20 - 105 (based on level) bonus magic damage.

Notice it only says ally champions. Leona, unfortunately, doesn't have the capability to proc her own passive. If she could proc it, more than likely, you would see people playing Leona not only in the support role, but also in the top lane and jungle.

I for one have always wanted to see a Jungle Leona, but it is so hard to pull off simply because of this one fact (and probably due to how little damage she really does). Thing is, if you do allow Leona to proc her own passive, it only becomes a better version of Lux's passive, and I don't think we really want that.

So, in order to not just copy and improve Lux's passive, she would need something new all together. Something where current support Leona mains can still make great use of her in the bot lane, but also give people the opportunity to try her out else where. Maybe something like this?

Sunlight Leona radiates with so much sunlight, that she blinds her enemies. Whenever Leona gets within 50 units of an enemy unit, and is visible to them, she blinds them for 0.5 seconds. This effect can not happen again on the same unit until Leona is out of range, and stays out of range for 5 seconds.

Now, this is just an idea, and one I literally just thought of while typing this, so it could very well be a bad idea. But, I feel it does work quite well with her Vanguard style of play of diving in and causing chaos. It only lasts long enough to only dodge a single auto attack, but one auto could mean the difference between life and death. Also, you don't have to worry about being blinded by Leona after being stunned by her, since her stun lasts 1 second. You already can't do anything while stunned, so not being able to auto attack her afterwards would feel really bad.

Of course, removing the damage from her passive means we would need to compensate for it elsewhere in her kit. This is good for her, though, for in order to truly succeed outside of bot lane, she would need a little extra damage to either trade, or take monsters in the jungle.

Anyway, just my 2 cents on it. Even if Leona doesn't receive any changes, I'm still pretty excited to see what changes come out.

That is ridiculously broken and her current passive is a huge part of her identity as the tag-teaming tank support. I strongly dislike your idea and see no reason to change Leona's current passive.

Riot has no motivation to make her into something other than a support.

if she can proc her passive suddenly she goes from a champion intended to support to a champion that can become a bruiser

and the passive would be a lux passive but stronger since allies can proc it

what if she can only proc her own passive on jungle mobs?(it staying the same for procs on champions and such)

Then you're nerfing support Leona.

oh I wrote it weirdly, ill edit it but i meant. She can proc her OWN passive on jungle mobs, it remains the same for champions and minions(as only others can proc it) my bad, ill edit it.

how exactly would it change anything? giving her +20 damage on monsters every few seconds won't do anything, her clear will change by a little and her ganks would be the same

what i don't understand is why people want leona to be played somewhere else than botlane, we all saw what happens when a support is played somewhere else, IT ENDS UP IMBALANCED IN THE WHOLE GAME

Alistar TahmKench Sona Soraka Janna TahmKench

well, you could even add something like more damage against monsters for her.

As for the other part, yea it might happen that she breaks then, I would just like to see champions in different roles from time to time, I even liked it when tahm kench was a toplaner.

Where was Janna going lol? I can't see her doing enough damage to make it anywhere.

Mid lane. Back when she had some damage on her Q she could charge up her tornadoes to their max multiplier and clear waves ridiculously easily while being nowhere near them. It was an extremely uninteractive lane as Janna just wanted to wait around until team fights started and she could use her kit to peel like a champ. Fairly similar to what Lulu does from time to time.

Because Leona's "Nautlike" in the jungle +15+5 per lv, which is always 25+ post your leash on a short CD isn't bad. The thing you need to think about is that Leona already has some of the best resistance to the jungle in the game, so anything that gives her any DPS is a huge plus.

I actually disagree with this. I personally don't have a problem with alternate lanes for champions as long as they remain viable in their original role. I'm fine with things like Mid Sona and Jungle Leona as long as the Support variation remains viable. This is also why I take particular offence to Support Zyra, because Mid Zyra died for it, I wouldn't have a problem with it if Mid Zyra was still usable and the main balance focus.

I also think it's hypocritical to keep supports lane locked into bot while things like Support Zyra, Malzahar and MF exist. If you want to be consistent and lane lock every champion, fine. If you want to be consistent and allow any champ with strengths in other lanes to move around, also fine. If you want to pick and choose with champs are allowed to move then I have a problem with that point of view.
