Honestly the champion level up system confuses me

Seriously how is it that my opponent with less farm, less kills and has been in lane as long as me levels up faster than me I don't understand Riot.

I always wondered about that too my friend and I always run into the problem. We kill someone deny him exp and farm and gold. Rage teleports back into lane dies comes back again and is somehow higher level then us. I forgot about catch up exp. It always annoyed me seeing someone is denied 3-4 waves of minions and still out levels me somehow.

That just sounds like you share experience with your ally a lot, which hurts you in that regard.

Sorry I worded it wrong. We are in different lanes and this happens in different games constantly. My friend would play top and kill the enemy 2-3 times, but somehow the enemy would still be a level higher then him. I would play mid and the enemy laner would roam die and miss around 2-3 waves but somehow will always be a level equal or higher then me when they come back to lane to catch the 4th wave at their tower.

Certain kills as worth more, and farm doesn't actually affect EXP at all - Someone who misses every minion will get the same amount of EXP as someone who CS's perfectly, as long as they're both near the minion.

It could be he was in lane more often than you though, grabbed camp EXP, or, as I previously said, got kills on higher-level enemies.

How much xp did you or he share with another player?

None, we're both mid lane

Junglers exist.

right but if your jg crossed lane or tried to set up a gank, then you lost xp

datfatguy1 votes

Yeah but if I'm leading in both farm and kills a couple of minions really shouldn't make a difference

NoPaxt2 votes

it does, because he's getting the xp even if he's not getting the CS.

if he got a shutdown

also if he takes camps the xp can be different

ie 4 caster creeps vs a full krug camp

but sometimes it's weird like denying 3 waves and dying twice and then randomly being ahead in level

maybe catchup xp kicks in too early or something

Level speed is generally pretty static. It's all based on being around when minions die, champions die, and monsters die. Level 2 is always 4 melee 3 casters for solo laners and 6/3 for bot lane. Differences in xp can come from a few things. If your jungler comes and the gank doesn't work out, they may leech some xp from dying minions while hanging out, setting you back. Other times you and your laner both back, but when y'all come back to lane the wave is pushing to them. This means you may make it back for 3 minions dying, but they make it back for 7, giving them a 4 minion lead. Those 2 are generally the big culprits for exp leads when you've been in lane about the same.
