Just revert Runes Reforged already

datfatguy··119 votes·17,894 views

The rework was unnecessary in the first place, but it just made highly damaging keystones deal even more damage, along with adding "adaptive power" and more lethality, meaning that the Runes Reforged have just added WAY too much damage to the game.

Just revert it back to the old masteries, and make runes free. Those prices for the old runes were absolutely disgusting.

if they had just made runes free then it wouldn't have been a problem and there would have been no need to rework it all

Rework of the runes was absolutely needed. The old runes were extremely outdated and boring, the new system offers much more variety and diversity.

If you're talking about the old runes that cost a shit ton of IP and would only give things such as bonus ad, ap, armour pen, magic pen and all that, then yes, they either needed a rework or to just be removed.

But I'm talking about the old masteries when I say it shouldn't have been reworked. They were fine, and provided just as much variety as these new ones do.

But the new system is literally the both combined, it's simpler to have both in one system, rather than having the 2 separately. I much rather have this system than any iteration of the previous one.

No it isn't. The new system is just loads of damage runes with a few additions. The old mastery tree was clearly separated into damage, defense and utility, which provided actual diversity in build. The old runes had so many options for stats - each champion had 3 or 4 options of rune setups.

Fine, that's just my opinion. I highly doubt Riot will revert the runes back to the old system since they did so much work with this one already. Maybe with the next rework but i's highly unlikely.

I know it's your opinion, but I'm arguing against it since I disagree with it. That IS how debates work.

Yes going from 15 frequently used pages to 5 is diversity i guess.

I went from 5 regularly used morde rune pages, and 2 mastery pages to 2... What diversity.

There is zero diversity on 90% of champion matchups and the 10% with "diversity" is usually just changing the secondary page.

The only thing outdated about the old runes was Riot charging an arm and a leg for them. "Hey you want free runes? Okay. Here have this abomination. WAIT WHAT DO YOU GUYS MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE IT? IT'S FREE! SO IT'S BETTER!"

You're right. My opinion may be unpopular, and I'll be downvoted. But I'd much rather pay for the old runes (with IP/BE now), than have to exist with the system that they replaced it with.

Maybe you do "get what you pay for".

(But again, we paid for runes with a free in-game currency...)

What diversity? lol

And what's wrong with runes being 'boring'? Are you a child, or a cat, so everything needs to be flashy?

Well excuse me for my opinion, I just personally think it needed to change. Just cause I think the old system was boring doesn't mean I'm a child lol.

Midg3t8 votes

There is no other logical explanation for you opinion tho, especially when you dont share it. If you won't explain why you have an opinion about something, then don't even share it, no1 will take your opinion as a valid one otherwise.

Doesn't care to / doesn't have the time to write 4 paragraphs with evidence to explain why he thinks the game is fun = being a child

Midg3t1 votes
  1. i didn't call him a child, I just asked him if he is one so he needs flashy shit
  2. if you dont have time to discuss the topic, then why posting anything in the 1st place?
WAZZZUP5002 votes

So what you're saying is type an essay or don't type at all? They're called comments, not speeches. Typing a wall of text isn't necessary, and takes quite a bit more time than giving a simple statement of opinion.

I vastly prefer Runes Reforged to the old mastery system, there's much more variety and playstyle customization in the new system. The real problem is Resolve generally being too weak (and being made even weaker by Conqueror being OP) and people insisting to build full glass cannon on everything.

Solution is easy: nerf Conqueror to something more acceptable and buff Resolve runes that actually give defensive stats or sustain (because we really don't need to buff stuff like Demolisher).

SnugglePuggle9418 votes

Sorry but RR made less variety and customization, not more. We had way more in the old system.

GigglesO11 votes

It had way more customization. I had alot of my friends that were only slightly mana hungry that they should splash 2-4 mana regen runes into their blue runes...

Suddenly they didn't run out of mana in lane phase...

The thing about the old runes that riot hated was that players just played "the same god damn thing" every game because "thats what the pros do". Well we have the same exact thing happening but now there is even more screen clutter and no real customization to how I play the game.

You want mana spend 1/6 of your runes on it or gtfo. Before you could spend 3-4/30 runes on it. Then you still had all of your masteries left to play with.

If you don't change up your runes for the game you are currently playing you are not always using the most efficient runes. Yes most games are the same runes every time, but there is a much higher percentage of time to use different runes depending on the match ups. If you just spam the same rune page everygame you are not being effective, but the old rune system was so standardized the only difference you would ever choose is armor or magic resist.

3TWarrior2 votes

unless you end up using the counter-pick method of gameplay, most champions do not have multiple rune paths and instead have ONLY ONE

if you switch to another champion, you logically use different runes, but in some cases, the setup is the same or very near the same

A Chaotic Mind3 votes

people did the same thing pro did because runes were super expensive so you wanted to buy as little as possible and use them on as many as possible champs

Idk about you but playing something like Grasp of The Undying Cho Gath top against a Conqueror Tryndamere/Irelia/Fiora/Renekton/Yasuo/Darius/Kled/Jax [/Teemo(jk)] with ignite has never felt worst. Tanks feel super trash to play imo, it feels like you either have to go bruiser top with damage runes and ignite or get shit on as a tank by their bruiser top with damage runes and ignite unless you get several top-notch ganksm by jungle. Pretty much no gray area there*[zombie-nunu-bummed]* .

Tomosima14 votes

Give me old runes back and masteries, remove key stones absolutely no need for them.

Irelia Bot11 votes

Revert runes to season 4 so we don't have any of these balance nightmare keystones.

Alzon2 votes

Imagine how lanes would play out without Grasp.

Without Conqueror.

Without Comet.

Without Electrocute.

Without Aery.

Without Klepto.

Without Dark Harvest.

And even earlier...

Without Fervor.

Without Warlord’s Bloidlust.

Without Windspeaker’s.

Without Courage of the Collossus.

...I miss those days.

Remove the runes reforged. It created more unbalance than it solved balance issue. This game is going downhill as they add damage on everything, everywhere and defense get slowly deleted.

Beerstein9 votes

Bring back the old runes PLUS masteries, but put more power into defensive runes to help catch up on this bursty meta.

iPooUnicorns4 votes

The meta is bursty because of the lack of defensive options old runes provided. No need to buff them when they were already in a good spot.

NaturesMayhem7 votes

"Runes Reforged", who thought to call it this? It's a slap to the face for the old system. You can say this is masteries reforged, but this new system has no runes involved. None at all. Runes gave flat stat improvement while masteries gave improvement in specific situations or under specific conditions. The new system mimics what masteries were, nothing like runes.

Regardless, they will never revert, I would bet my entire life on them never,"reverting", removing the changes made and going back to the old system. They've sunk too much time and money, time = money as well, into this project for them to just roll it back. Riot is a business and money comes foremost, revering would be like flushing all that money down the drain. They may make a step forward in improvements, but they will never step back.

One of the main points was making the game more accessible at lower levels. A new player at level 28, with little to no runes, playing against a level 30 with 2000 hours in the game and min/maxed rune pages for every character, is not very balanced. Reforged runes changed that to a fair matchup.

Personally I think the new runes are just boring lazy design. Boring simple mechanics. What about runes that completely change your playstyle? Runes that change the main power spike item? Runes that alter and modify existing mechanics? Nah. When the enemy is at low HP, you deal an extra damage instance. Woohoo

Riot is pulling a LoL player. They're in too deep with Runes Reforged to want to go back. Just like how every League player is hundreds of dollars too deep into League to want to quit.

These new runes have only been out for like a year though. They reworked Rengar, and had no problem with reverting him after a year. They reworked Leblanc, and had no problem with reverting her after a year. I don't see why the same wouldn't go for runes reforged.

AmenPerson2 votes

I'm not trying to sound rude while I say this, but that is really comparing the replacement of one or two abilities and some ratios, versus the replacement of an entire system that was added to the game. I don't feel like it's as easy as a copy and past of the old mastery system honestly.

datfatguy4 votes

I understand what you're saying, but it's the entire concept of reverting something I'm trying to get to.

Basically what it should be is that Riot rework something, and if it's retarded, they just revert it. Remember a couple of years ago when Kog'Maw received a mini rework which ended up giving him like 5.00 attack speed and completely broke the game, so they reverted it? I know it's only one ability compared to an entire system of runes/masteries, but it's the same idea with reverting.

Lovelle4 votes

Simply reverting isn't enough, they need to remove keystones as well. That's when everything went out of control. Masteries should have just stayed as passive gains.

datfatguy5 votes

I actually agree with you. The game started to get worse from season 6, and that just so happens to also be when keystones where introduced. They just brought WAY too much damage into the rift and are now even stronger which is seriously a problem.

YES 100000000% YES! I completely agree with you and this is all thanks to ghostcancer and his team taking over for morello, i miss morello he had the right design philosophies.

SithesisLord3 votes

Old Masteries, or old Keystones? Because there´s a major difference there.

Also, Runes Reforged is a system still in its infancy.

One can hardly deem it bad and unnecessary based off of a single year of what was essentially, a beta test of said system.

Beacon Academy4 votes

Both

Current runes are basically an extension of the previous year's masteries

hitguy23 votes

Why not just follow every other moba game out there and just remove runes all together. Stats outside the game are very hard too balance anyways. Just a thought, so don't crucify me.
