How about, instead of trashing Ornn's shield and then giving him more damage

..You change his survival spell to one that's a little more nuanced than press a button for shielding?

An idea I had for it would be damage reduction based on enemies hit with his W. Like, enemies inside the flame cone will do X% less damage to Ornn.

What this does is give him more manageable trading patterns in lane (sidestep his fire or you'll do less damage and he does more) without making it a brain-dead skill like it is currently, and ALSO retaining his ability to survive in teamfights if he's using his W optimally.

I'd personally consider this a much better alternative to "remove his shield and then put his damage on steroids," considering that Ornn is designed to be a tank and his players want him to be a tank, the sudden hard-shift into a bruiser playstyle that these changes enforce is not desirable.

I just read the changes.... that will make him way less of a tank and more of a bruiser early game..... but with the Guinsoos changes does it really matter. Yet another source of penetration [zombie-nunu-bummed]. Let’s hope it doesn’t go through

Biggest is W gets Unstoppable back, but the damage is buffed back up again and he loses his shield. Of all the changes to make W less of an “I win” (in Squad5’s terms), that is one of the worst.

I didn’t even think his shield was the biggest issue in trades, but rather that if you went to trade with him, he’d just fire breath and deal way more damage than you could deal as a fighter, even if it wasn’t for the shield. He does need his damage cut a bit though.

Them moving away from his tank design to a more bruiser design (according to one, similar to what Sejuani used to be) is painful. Idk if I’d be able to follow this path with him, which sucks cause he was my all-time favorite tank champ around release (the only champ I actually bought close to release, having saved up and picking him up the next week..cause I couldn’t hit 7200 IP at the time). He’s so far from his original design now, and it’s odd and sad cause it looks like it was Squad5 who originally designed him too. Why did he change his mind on what was likely the ideal among tanks: lower Kill pressure, unreliable skills, window of larger tankiness like they wanted, high impact in his utility/CC.

Edit: the increasing damage reduction per hit is interesting. It would open more opportunities, although Personally I’d rather the shield. Just not sure how to make it interactive with W unless it formed after the W, basing off of the hits. Or like others said, on his E, rewarding good knockups.
