You know, I don't understand why people enable companies like Riot.

They have never done anything that actually shows they care about their product and community beyond their income potential; just about everything they do, the greed in charge of Riot is painfully obvious.

  • Champ updates, which would take any competent team a couple weeks at most, takes them a year or more.

  • Fixing the client and all that, which has been a problem for years, has yet to be done.

  • Bugs in game that Riot outright refuses to fix on account of them being "irrelevant."

  • Terrible balance that Riot does nothing to fix.

  • Broken champs that Riot refuses to nerf, when the fix is obvious and easy.

  • Champs that do not need buffs, but get them anyway since Riot wants to sell skins or make them played in LC$.

... and the list goes on. I just don't understand why people love F2P companies so much, and enable them at every turn. F2P is quite literally the worst model for the consumer, where quality goes down because the company doesn't make money off the base game, yet people applaud it as if F2P is the reason gaming exists.

Truth is though, F2P is what destroyed gaming, and prevents people who truly care from bringing new life to the industry. Gone are the days of passion and creativity, enter the age of greed and unimaginative games. I miss the old days, when developers actually gave a fuck beyond how much money they could make off of morons stupid enough to throw money at anything shiny.

You won't see games that focus on being fun and imaginative like Zelda and Mario anymore, you won't see MMOs like old WoW (pre-MoP), you won't see games like old Maplestory or old Mabinogi (despite their cash grabiness), you won't see games like the old Final Fantasies, you won't see games like the old Kingdom Hearts, none of that. Now we just have Flashy Assassin Game #1430295, Generic Horror Game #105196596 and Generic Shooter #10595839. There is no creativity anymore, there is no more passion, none of that. Now we just have greedy suits wringing their hands at the thought of all the money they can make off of gullible kids.

I just don't understand it. I don't understand why people enable greedy assholes. Why do people love F2P so much, when it's such a terrible thing?

Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Sonic, etc... these games started entire eras of gaming, inspired so many games and developers, enabled companies to exist, all that. These games helped to mold the gamer culture.

League? Assassin's Creed? Call of Duty? DOTA? Counter-Strike? None of these games have had as much of an impact. They don't have the same soul that the older games had, that sense of wonder... they're just thinly-veiled cash grabs. I know you're too young to know how gaming used to be, but the older games were so much more fun than League and DOTA when they were relevant -- and not just gameplay-wise.

The reason why champion updates takes so long is that they want to get it right this time around. If they just did quick updates within the week im sure there would be bugs, as well as needing nerfs/buffs thus making the update useless since they are still updating the champion. I mean they do this towards most champion with weekly updates. But some champions are so bad they need actual reworks.

There is no point in fixing the current client when they are working on a new client. How about actually helping with feedback instead of just assuming they arent doing anything. Your last three points basically falls down to my first paragraph. The reason why balance is so hard for this game is because of the huge number of champions/items in this game. That basically what happens when a game like this has been in production for so long and has too much. They cannot delete champions because then what happens to the people who bought them?

With that said I dont understand your gripe with F2P. its not that bad. Especially with Riot/League. there are far more worse companies that deals with F2P. I mean how can you say they are money hungry or greedy when the only thing that requires money for this game are Skins. Everything else can be bought with IP and even then you can get free skins from Loot boxes which can be earn in game.

If they were truly money hungry they would make the game pay to play (which in my opinion would make a lot of people turned off) and because of the popularity of the game they could basically put a huge price tag on it. They would also make everything buyable with RP which in turn would make the game Pay to Win. Thus turning more people off from the game.

With that said i rather enjoy the way the game is now and would rather have it this way, than a pay to play service (especially if everything stayed the way it is now) or have the game pay to win because those games are boring. The game does need its improvements, and Riot is working on it. You type of people just want everything fast and quick without getting tested and then would complain when its not perfect. The last thing i want to say is that you dont have to spend any money on this game. Hell Riot themselves even stated most people who have an account dont spend any money. Most of their money they get is from ShareHolders/Investor because they put in the money for the game.

No, they're not just trying to get it right. The champ updates just aren't profitable, since most people already own the champ and skins, and so they are given the lowest priority. 99% of the developer resources are funneled into the cash shop, since that's where their income comes from. League is MICROSCOPIC in scope compared to just about any other MMO, and there is literally no excuse for them to take a year to create ONE model for ONE, TINY map. It's just greed.

As for balance, no, it's not as hard as they want you to believe. They make money when champs are OP, and when FOTM waves roll through. They TRY to create them, since that's how they make money off skins. It's not about there being too many champs, it's just about Riot not giving a fuck outside of income potential.

It's not the game that makes F2P bad, League in itself is a good game. But, the developers have different priorities and philosophies. Instead of creating a fair game, they make a lucrative one; they make FOTM waves and make champs as OP as they can get without losing money or ticking off the playerbase. They entirely ignore the base game as much as they can get away with. They spend years to rework one champ when I could go get a pod from Blizzard and they'd do it in a week.

And no, F2P is DRAMATICALLY more profitable than P2P or even B2P. Always has been, and that's why developers love it. But F2P is usually a death sentence for quality, which is why I demonize it so much.

Yeah, I know I don't have to spend money on this game, and I don't spend a lot. But, the quality that could be there is just not there because of F2P, and because this game is F2P, there is no balance, there is no developer care, there's none of that. That's why I hate F2P, it kills the game it's attached to.

Except, you know, I've interned in game design, done a lot of coding work in school (high school and college), and all that. I know full well how it works, and if you're in any way competent, you can patch a bug without creating a thousand more.

Great so have I, so I know you're full of sht.

Well, as I said, you've gotta be somewhat decent at coding to patch bugs properly. ^^

So I better not ask you for help then, good to know.
