Why does Irelia stun last 2 sec?

Because makes no sense for me

She has to be lower health than her target, otherwise it's only a slow.

In contrast, lots of other stuns are always stuns (or various hard cc) and last for longer than 2 seconds (and are non-ultimate).

I see nothing wrong with it.

Leti the Yeti2 votes

she has to be lower percent-wise and its totally possible for her to have more health than you while still having a lower percentage ;o

I think it has to be changed to flat health

ValyrianBlade2 votes

I'm fully aware it's percent-wise, which is how it should be. It would be very difficult to judge whether she has a stun or a slow up if it was flat health. It would also just unnecessarily punish her for choosing to build health. She suffers enough from the knock-up trend taking over making her passive so much less valuable.

no.....that would make ADCs 10,000x more effective vs. her because Irelia tends to build tanky

So she shits on me with her AA

Truthteller2 votes

Do you have armor? Early game if you're playing as a tank just rush frozen heart or randuin's and that'll shut her down 90 percent of the time.

Enkidusmurf4 votes

You could also build zephyr or take the tenacity mastery.

Or build Merc Treads and a Randuin's.

Or build QSS/Mercurial Scimitar

Or build a Crucible.

Or build a Banshee's Veil.

Or take Cleanse (though I don't recommend it).

Or play Olaf.

Really, there are lots of ways to get around Irelia. Don't engage when she's lower health than you, but still not low enough to die. Poke her down, zone her off the farm, and when she's around 30%, you go for the kill.

Her stun isn't OP. She has to take enough damage to get a stun instead of a slow, but not so much that she's in a bad spot. It takes skill and careful trading. High risk, high reward. Also, it's not a flat 2 second stun. It scales up from 1, exactly like Twisted Fate's. Veigar's post-nerf, AOE stun outscales it at all levels. Equilibrium Strike is balanced, and it's beatable. You just have to know what you're doing.

Because it's situational, single target, and is only 2 seconds at level 5. So it's not 2 seconds until level 9 at the least, and I don't max it first, so it's not level 5 until I'm level 13.

Fiddles fear is only 2.25 seconds at max rank (which is like really late in the game), is single target, and deals no damage. Why does irelias get to do damage and be a stun?

You do understand that I am saying it use to be 3 seconds right? Also fiddle fear is targeted and will always fear the target. Irelia has to be lower or equal health for it to stun.

Which happens in like 80% of the times because she is a melee. A single attack and she will be lower than her target already. Also, equal health also stuns, which makes laning against her pretty stupid when both have full health. And if she is slowing you, it is because she already has the advantage.

Oh Nasus no, a Gnar top-laner Lissandra with JarvanIV damage Chogath and RekSai cc.

BakedLotion2 votes

Its buggy as shit. I remember having like half hp and she would just q to gapclose then e, and i would get stunned even if she was full hp. Its also obnoxiously reliable because shes always gonna be lower percent than her opponent. She only needs to get hit a little, then engage... Even one fucking auto will allow her to turn on you

Irelia Bot1 votes

And this is why reducing fiddle's fear down from 3 and rammus taunt down from 3 seconds seconds is bad in the long run. Since people forget how short 2 seconds is for a stun. And I don't know about you but most Irelia max W meaning that the stun is only 1 second until level 8 and not 2 seconds until level 13.

They should honestly buff some of the melee tops back into being viable instead of nerfing Irelia. You didn't see Irelia being played basically ever until jax was nerfed while nidalee and Ryze were able to easily dominate most every melee in top. It was that situation that brought Irelia into competive and back into being considered a good pick. Yes I am saying people though lowly of Irelia for the first half of season 4.

Irelia was made to be a melee viable in a ranged dominated game. Yes range being more viable then melee has been a problem more then once and Irelia and Xin were the first examples of how riot fixed the problem.

TL;DR make more melee decent picks and Irelia will go out of style.

you forget Iralia was nerf like hell in season 1 and 2, thats where the saying comes from "better nerf iralia"

Well that and other champs were considered OP but Irelia would get nerfed and they would not.

There is more then one side to the story.

Because it's her only purely defensive move?

Because it's her only purely defensive move?

Beside her passive or innate sustain?

NorthernDruid1 votes

Her innate sustain is not purely defensive (though I suppose her Equilibrium strike does do some damage, so purely defensive is kind of not 100% the case there either), her innate sustain is most definatively the lesser half of Hiten Style, with the offensive true damage being the real reason for why you max W first.

And yes, beside her passive, which isn't an ability she has any control over.

To put it another less snarky way, Equilibrium strike is her only ability which allows her some degree of fight control. While she has some mobility, it's not strong enough to help her control the flow of a fight entirely, her E allows her to have some influence over the pace of an encounter, if it's going to fast for her, she can use a slow to drag it out a bit if her target might slip away to safety or a stun if her opponent is overwhelming her and she needs a breather.

Her stun is allowed to be that long, because it is (as others have pointed out) single target, conditional as to whether it's even a hard CC ability, it has a respectable cooldown (not long, but it's long enough you usually don't see more than one during an engagement), especially on a champion who doesn't generally build much CDR, and, again, as others have pointed out, it only reaches the duration you're complaining about at max rank which you generally reach at lvl 13.

It's also fairly short ranged, meaning she can't use it to shut down a target before they get to react without using up her only mobility tool alongside it.

It's her only move to help her control the battlefield, and also basically the only thing which makes her not a complete ball of stats champion.

EDIT: P.S. I wrote this in the middle of the night, I hope I don't come off as overly sarcastic or anything, and also that my post is at least semi-coherent.

Why is Morgana snare 3 seconds? Why is Fiddle Fear 2.25 seconds? Why are other forms of cc similar to stuns longer than 2 seconds and long range while irelia gets one that requires a melee attack, the target to be higher on %HP than Irelia, and pretty much requires a dive into the enemy team late game?

Morgana? Because all her kit, except her E, relies on her Q to hit. Fiddle? Because to do damage with his W, his main source of damage, the person needs to stay in range. He is also squishy and has no innate mobility Irelia? I don't know. It has a huge base damage, point and click, on a tank bruiser who easily can reach a target because triforce is core or her and her Q

IcyPepper2 votes

point and click

So tired of that being said to excuse complaining about a spell or ability. There is counterplay to most point and click abilities...

If they're melee: it typically puts them in melee range, which can put them in danger. Late game, and they use that ability in a teamfight? Instantly focused and usually killed (unless really ahead). Even Vi 's ult can have drawbacks. And Irelia's "point and click no counterplay" ability is ridiculously close-ranged... so still puts her in danger during a teamfight.

If they're ranged: summoner 3 item 3140 summoner 1 Most ranged point-and-click have some form of debuff that can be removed (Zed's ult), or have some drawback to them (Annie's passive, for instance, requires casting a number of spells and there is a visual indicator if her passive is proc'd).

Some point and click abilities are annoying, but nothing is more annoying when it's in melee range and people still complain about it. How the hell are you going to make an aa-esque spell a skillshot? If it had range, it'd be even more powerful!

mvargus1 votes

Irelia's "point and click" abilities put her right in the middle of teamfights and while she does have some sustain thanks to Hiten Stance, she's not going to survive being focused by several champs. However, I've noticed that often the other team tries to run away which will allow an Irelia to use her ult to heal and throw out damage. THe key is when Irelia uses her Q to come in you have to CC her and then focus her down right away. If you allow her to keep attacking she'll most likely get kills and be able to walk away after killing one or more of your team.

I remember this because I play Irelia often and then just 2 nights ago was playing Sejuani jungle when the other team had an Irelia who ended up going 3/14/9 because every time she got close to me or our Olaf we made sure to focus her down before she could get going.

The stun duration is not the problem its the fact that she stuns you when regardless if your lower health or not so buggy

Since it is % health, sometimes it may seem confusing. Also, she can stun you if you have equal health

She's not balanced. Even high elo players say she's ridiculous to go against. You can't duel her.... She's hovering at around 53% winrate. There's no way to really itemize against her because she has true damage on hit when dueling and having better regen and sustain than her just means you'll be getting stunned once or twice in a duel, therefore giving her time to outtrade you.

Exactly. If you are behind, usually slowing you is enough for her. If you are ahead, you can fight her because she E you and go away. If you are even you are close to behind already because fighting her with equal health or just a little bit more than her is already dangerous

Whoa. What happened in the last patch that caused her win rate to jump up?

Honestly i don't know. Maybe because lissandra is being banned more often and gnar is being played less, meaning she has more free reign over the top lane. She does well against both tanks and bruisers.
