Yasuo's windwall blocking Vel'cox's W and E

SorasMemories··22 votes·2,267 views

Yasuo's windwall can block projectiles... Sure.... I can understand it blocking Vel'cox's Q, but his W and E?? "Opens a rift" and "disrupts a nearby area".... That doesn't sound like projectiles. It's more like magic from beneath the surface. Not to mention, it makes no logical sense AT ALL. Not even a little bit.

Except for very few specific exceptions (namely Ziggs ult), all abilities with horizontal travel time are blocked.

If there is a time where the ability can be seen as having already left the caster's hand/tentacle/weapon/etc, but it has not yet reached the point where it will affect the target, then it's probably being treated as a projectile, and will be blocked.

Every ability that is blocked by Wind Wall fits the definition of a projectile as it is used in League, even if thematically it makes no sense. In my opinion the two worst offenders are Vel'Koz's W and Viktor's Augmented E, specifically the line of explosions that follow the laser. Energy being channeled through the ground. It doesn't make much sense that they can be affected by the wind.

By the way, Vel'Koz's E "disrupts a nearby area", but it does so by sending a pulse of energy above-ground to that location. That's the projectile being blocked, and actually vaguely makes sense, as long as we're willing to accept that energy has enough form or mass to be diverted from its course. Which we must if we're to believe that Lux's Q and E can be blocked, or any other projectile that seems to be composed entirely of magic and light.

Well said.

That took me much longer to write than I'd care to admit =P

But I am grateful for it.

Nice to be able to help :)

I like to know exactly how things work, so I tend to be thorough when researching something I'm interested in. It also makes me pretty good at finding bugs on the PBE; some of those things are extremely odd, but with enough observation I can usually narrow them down.

It also blocks Nami's Q, despite the fact that it should go over it, and deletes her ultimate instead of partially blocking it...

Kouga2 votes

For her Q, it has a slight arc trajectory but it isn't all that high. Things like Kog's Ult goes "over" it because it is entirely "off screen".

And for her ult, the wall deletes the entire projectile - partially, I imagine, because they don't have (or want) the coding to make projectiles able to be "broken" into pieces and still function.

GaleWinUnleashed2 votes

That would be amazing, though. I'd love to see half a wave. Or only one of Draven's axes flying across the map.

Well aware of the reasons, but they still both feel "wrong" every time they happen.

Speaks of logic while talking about magic.

Usually magic is based around some sense of logic, no matter how small.

His E is understandable cause it's a projectile but his W is stupid cause it's only like this cause of how it's programmed, not cause of what his W "actually" is. Course Yasuo, like all of certainlyT's champions, is the definition of anti fun nonsense so here we are.

Plenty of things don't make "Game World" sense - how does wind block Nautilis' gigantic anchor? But in game terms, not everything can make sense or it wouldn't function as a game (How do anything of these Champions survive gunshots, laser burns? How do they go to the bathroom? WHEN DO THEY HAVE TIME TO EAT?) but you have to give concessions for the game.

His E, at least, is an actual projectile (if you look closely, the projectile lands at the target area before it detonates) so that makes sense as a projectile being blocked.

Now, they do make some allowances for 'logical' mechanics. Things like Kog'Maw's Ultimate can be placed behind the wall because it goes "over" the wall. And Naut's Ult goes through it because it goes "under" the wall through the ground. One could make an argument that Vel's W should also go "under" it since it is rupturing the ground. But alas, it just isn't how it is. But hey at least his R goes through it.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

I actually thought Naut's ult was blocked.

Kouga4 votes

Nope. It travels "underground" to its target.

Wiki:

◾Despite being a projectile, Depth Charge is not intercepted by Yasuo's Wind Wall or Braum's Unbreakable.

Woohoo, hooray for logic!

Doesn't block lux shoop da whop because photons get trough air molecules!

Doesn't block Xeraths beam because electrons don't care!

But wind has antivoid particles which can block all what Vel Koz does, isn't that obvious?

BetaDude403 votes

Actually Vel's laser passes right through.

wind can't stop the knowledge beam!

Windwall blocks Lulu's polymorph.

From memory, Her polymorph actually shoots a tiny purple thing which is intercepted by the wall.

Does it really block his E? I play vel a lot, and I can't remember that being blocked by windwall. Could be wrong though.

Honestly, as long as the learn beam goes through, I'm fine with them not looking into cleaning up Vel'koz and Yasuo's interactions.

Kouga1 votes

It does, you just have to be fast enough. The projectile is pretty quick actually and is hard to see

RamboDash151 votes

It is not as visible but they are both projectiles. His E is the hardest to see, but he does send a small pulse to the target location.

I wnder how wall of wind can block magic that doesn't have "physical" form like lux Q W E.. It's LIGHT..

Stars Shaper1 votes

Well let me explain it :3

Air has a peculiar index of refraction that sets how elettromagnetic waves travel in it as any other material. Different pressure/density of the air changes that so Wind Wall might create such a distorction that disrupts the pulses launched by Lux

Saianna1 votes

If it was highly pressured wind, then nothing nor anyone could be able to go trough this wall unharmed.

And even if so, then wind wall would just weaken Luxs abilities at best. Not totally nullify it. Yasuos wall is biggest BS-support-like ability ever.

Stars Shaper1 votes

The pressure difference hasn't to be that high, you just need to disrupt the frequencies so that they won't constructively interact. That's why we have optic fibers instead of having lasers go in the air.

Minuano1 votes

I believe both come from a projectile at the beginning of the animations, if you look closely.

revliledpembroke1 votes

Made a similar post a while back. Got similar responses. All that came out of it was it really got me to start wondering what the hell Kayle, Corki, Anivia are doing flying low enough that men with swords can hit them.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Vel'Koz W is a projectile: it's a bolt "knife" that "cuts" a rift as in its description.

Vel'Koz E is a projectile too, you can see dark matterish things flowing towards the selected area.

Sirsir1 votes

The E is blocked for the same reason as Lux E, it sends out a projectile to make an area of effect.

But the W...
