so i just played yasuo in the jungle

got raged at in champ select. meh nbd yasuo jungle is not at all common, and people tend to hate him. i can deal.

build devourer's, slowly but surely start ramping up in damage, end the game 8/6/8, 2.3k more gold than the next highest person on my team, 4 turrets, 2nd most farm, 300 less damage than our mid who was raging at me all game, and what do i get treated with? "report yasuo for trolling in the jungle, he's lucky we carried." and "you only did good because yasuo is a faceroll noob champ"

sigh. it's like people in my elo don't get that the meta game is really only prevalent in ELO's MUCH higher than ours. i try to explain to them "look guys anything can work in this elo when played right", but these little kids only think lcs picks are strong and therefore rage if they're not picked/banned

I hate that about the playerbase. You could sit 99% of all these fuckers down and ask "why is the meta what it is?" and they won't be able to tell you, but they sure as hell will enforce something that they don't have a single damn clue about. Fuck em.

That is a really broad question. Now, if you asked me "Why isn't Yasuo jungle considered viable?", that is easily answerable.

Or you could say "The strength of the Cinderhulk jungle item has gave way to a golden age of health-focused tanks in League of Legends. This, in turn, has given rise to % based damage dealers and items, such as the popular BotRK. Also, due to the current itemization of the game, the trinity of bottom lane has been shifted in favor of cc-heavy supports and auto-attack reliant ADCs, instead of poke support and ADCs that scale rather well with AD... which should typically counter a non-sustaining lane.. This was caused due to buffs to items such as BotRK and damage-nerfs to BT, an item common in AD reliant carries. Because of this, auto attackers such as Vayne, Jinx, and Kalista are the dominant ADCs of the game, compared to AD scaling ones such as Ezreal and Varus, along with supports that allow their ADCs to fight prolonged battles where they land as many autoattacks as possible (FE, Leona, Braum, Blitzcrank) This is what has given rise to a tank meta. It is not uncommon to have smite top with Cinderhulk, Jungler with Cinderhulk, and a tanky/CC heavy support such as Leona. This has effectively hit the previous assassin meta quite hard."

A pretty, concise picture of one part of the meta, but nowhere near all-inclusive.

I can write a book about why the meta is what it is, or I can give a short description and pray to the gods people can figure out the rest for themselves. I can take it all the way back to February 2010. I can tell you all about how dodge was in the game, the League of Sunfires, the League of Cleavers, when ADCs went mid and why that changed to APCs/mages going mid (yes, Ashe and Twitch were the most popular mids prior to season 1). I can go on and on in great detail about all this. Why Force of Nature and Atma's Impaler were removed and why Madred's Bloodrazors were later changed to Blade of the Ruined King. Why nearly final item in today's LoL has unique passives as opposed to passives that stack with eachother and how that little change effected the meta so greatly and why. But no, yall can sit around criticizing eachother for making unpopular picks when it is these anti-meta picks which not only at times beat the meta, but change it as well. I'll admit, I have plenty of reasons not to like Yasuo jungle, but damn it if he wants to play some bronze ranked game as Yasuo jungle let him do it.

Just gave a kinda quick explanation to The AFK Farmer regarding your question. You should be able to find it on this thread.

Didn't load for me earlier, thanks :)

Basically my understanding of a meta is trends that evolve to follow what is the most effective in the current state of the game. Which is why it's strictly followed in high tiers of play especially the pro scene.

Players think Sejuani is op af when in reality she really isn't all that strong. It's like they think she's some kind of un-beatable jungler that must be banned or must be picked but it turns out that a majority of players just don't know how to utilize her kit (this including pro players)
