We need to seroiusly discuss matchmaking (WARNING: wall of text)
TLDR: its long.. if you don't want to read the whole thing. then just move on to the next thread.
for once i am going to set aside all the blatantly obviously glaring balance issues. and discuss matchmaking.
Now i feel i needs to start this off with the obvious.. league is a GAME. people play games or have FUN. if we stop having fun... we stop playing.
now because of my current internet situation i have had little time to play ranked since February.
but what i have noticed with unranked is that matchmaking is HORRIBLE
i mean just yesterday i had an ENTIRE team which has ZERO idea how to play properly and then in the VERY next game we get 5 players on each team with VERY even skill and it was one of the best game i ever had.
then today my first game i get some players who played like complete trash and my 2nd game i get GOOD teammates.
nowi know the basics of MMR and matchmaking.. but frankly.. the system DOES NOT WORK.
for example..
my first game today when i was jungle we had a support
and she COMPLETES her
before grabbing a sightstone.
, she misses half of skillshots.. i only ever saw her land ONE well timed shield. and i never ONCE recall her landing an ulti.
our vayne would frequently condemn the enemy away to safety right before we could kill them.
i remember at once point in the game (where we only had the wards i had placed
i noticed every laner was missing except thier adc who was pushing bot t2. (this was after laning phase)
now i look at the map.. with only vision on the enemy
and i see there is an infernal that just spawned.
now.. WITHOUT vision on ANY champions but said cait, who i can TELL is NOT at infernal but is VERY close by. that they are doing infernal.
this is the kind of basic thing we call map awareness
the very same game.. i was chasing a VERY low
through OUR red side jungle..
we just had a team-fight down there and i was cleaning it up i manage to chase the blitz into the direct of syndra lane by blocking the other exit
now this blitz get withing half a screen of syndra, i had vision on his for TEN SECONDS chasing him though our jungle toward her
and she just sits there farming mid minions.. and doesn't even notice until 4 seconds AFTER i ping her. he escapes
again. NO MAP AWARNESS.
this team may know how to trade in a 1v1 lane they may know how to CS
but they CANNOT focus on objectives.. they CANNOT use thier brain to infer where the enemy is going to be based on where we have vision of and where we dont. and they cant seem to wrap thier head aroudn the fact that this game ends by killing the enemy nexus... not the first team to 50 kills...
and a game later.. i get a team of completely normal sane people who play properly
now the problem here is.. MY MMR didn't "drastically" change between those 2 games one after each other"
the mmr system pays ZERO attention to how good a "player" is... it only look at "win or lose"
i was put in a team with people who played like bronze 4 (except our
he was amazing) , the next game (after we lost) i get put with people who prob have the skill level of high silver.
now those MMR should not be REMOTELY close to each other. and yet some some reason.. this happens
i dont CARE if i win or lose. i don't CARE if i climb.
all i WANT is to be PLACED with people my own skill level and FIGHT people my own skill level.. and matchmaking DOES NOT DO THIS.
i mean sure. sometimes it does.. but then there is the next random game where you think .. seriously riot wtf are these noobs on my team for.
Edit: more text added:
i dont take pleasure in stomping noobs, and certainly dont enjoy them having them on my team. and although this is a much rare occasion i don't enjoy facing player drastically above my skill level. i want an EVEN game... THAT is where the fun is.
about one month ago i had ONE game where i was in a 1v1 and i played correctly yet i lost because i got outplayed. and i was SOO HAPPY. to have actaully been outplayed becuase i LITERALLY cannot remember the last time i had lost an EVEN fight at even skill, without me making some stupid mistake and be facing a champion that just beat me able their player just frankly outplayed me. we lost that game.. but had SOO much fun in it.
i maen sure i frequently die to overfed champsion... i die to OP champsions... i die becuase i messed up.. and a majority of those mess up are me trying to save someone would i should have just let die, and since feb, i died a lot becuase of random packet loss/ high ping/lag issues. . but to have died to an actaul outplay... on equal skill on even gold, in a fair 1v1 with no interference. that was EASILY the first time that had happened in 500 deaths.. and i woudl esite closer to the first time in over 2k deaths. (i have been playing for a while)
winnig and loses does not matter, what matters is havaing an EVEN match that is fun. and that's what i want to see riot focus on
