Flex Queue is awful

BALDG1VEN BOOMER··56 votes·8,542 views

Don't get it wrong it looked good on paper but you guys fucked up.

The matching is completely horrible. You have bronze players who are being matched with people as high as Platinum, I don't even know how that makes sense the skill level between a bronze and platinum player is way too big of a gap to ever be an a ranked game. This completely ruins the fun of the game when you have players who don't even understand basic concept continuously making mistakes, I had one of my games where the enemy Rengar was Bronze 5 and sadly he probably had the worst time of his life ending the game 4/15.

The second thing that really bothers me the most is the placement, you state ALL players WILL low than their previous rank. But how low is low? You have a Challenger player from Turkey who got 10-0 in his placement and got placed in Bronze V? What? This is just a slap in the face for everyone who has worked hard during the season and despite having a good record in their placement they still will seed lower than where they were last season? It just screws over your hard work you put in during the season to reach a goal only to get slapped across your face to do it all over again.

If this is honestly the system Riot wants to use in S7 Flex queue isn't honestly worth it.

this is what a hard MMR reset looks like its gonna take time for the system to stabilize also take the this time to get better by playing against the better tier players you wouldnt normally play against

There's been reset on normals MMR as well? Im getting matched against challengers (rank 15 & 21) as level 28...

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

What do you mean "rank 15 & 21" ? You mean you got matched against challenger smurfs?

Verdade6 votes

I got matched against ACTUAL rank 15 EUNE challenger in normal game as level 28 http://i.imgur.com/TOz37Ij.png

AHarmlessTaco3 votes

Oh. UHM. Yeah I dk there, normal MMR shouldnt have changed. Also, shit dude you play a lot of Velkoz and Bard

Verdade2 votes

this is why we can't have separate blind/draft normals... there are just too few players

As for VK/Bard - you can see im back to league after few months of inactivity and decay so i suck badly :D

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

Uh, yeah that's why they are getting rid of draft.... I just think blind sucks though sooooo RIP.

Ha I didn't look at time stamps or win/loss. Was just browsing lightly. Since you're level 30 and took a few months off, that means you played against challengers well before any changes. Level 28 to 30 takes a while.

Verdade2 votes

Nope, look up there's screenshot, its from my "smurf".

And tbh, blind is very healthy in 2200+ MMR, haven't seen flamer or such thing in 10 games or so. Even if someone instalocks people are not crying over it and just picking what's left. Also, more supports than mid laners, and tons of fillers. I think its because ragers wont get this high before they got banned, so it's relatively quiet here

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

I personally just hate mirrors. That is my #1 concern. Something about it just really puts a sour taste in my mouth. I also like being able to pick a champion based on who I am against.

What rank is 2200 MMR? ._.

Verdade2 votes

Pretty much mid-high diamond. Also, mirrors are very good for learning that champion

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

Ah, I only managed to hit G4 this season. I find myself enjoying the theory end of things a bit more than actual gameplay sometimes.... I'll manage my way up there some day though. :P

And that is a good point I suppose. I don't learn much in a lot of my games unfortunately. Not saying I'm much better than people in Gold, but its really hard to learn from anyone under Plat. Only in those rare Plat/Diamond games do I really start feeling the pressure to perform well because I can trust everyone but also feel like the weak link. Its a nice but rare feeling.

Verdade1 votes

Try finding someone maining the same champion and play few 1v1s against him. Try to record it and find out where do you make mistakes. Watching your own games helps alot.

You must not have gotten what they said, NA and EUW are keeping in as of yet cus they have like 41% participation. It's most other regions that are losing it cus they have far less people in it. However yes all queue do need their own MMR cus they shouldn't be affected by things that happen in other ones. Flex queue isn't bad its starting from the ground up, this is the only realistic way they can implement a new queue. Being any rank in one queue won't translate into another.

Yeah I think its cause you are smurfing and the system recognizes your high winrate, ( one that a diamond would have)

Verdade1 votes

Yeah but still, it's level 28 smurf (incomplete runes, masteries), my highest ranked division was P3 and getting matched against Challenger with full runes/masteries seems little weird

Stemw31 votes

Friend of mine (Bronze 1) did decide to level the account of another one who quitted league to LvL15. After 2-3 games he was matched against a master-player. So, the system is very drastic with mmr if you wreck your opponents pre-30.

Scary Door8 votes

{quoted} ... also take the this time to get better by playing against the better tier players you wouldnt normally play against

Every once in awhile someone makes this kind of statement and it's horrifically asinine. It's one thing for a Silver to play against a Gold or even Plat player.. sure, you can learn something from the experience and you might even win. On the other hand what could a Bronze or Silver learn from playing against a Master or Challenger player? I played against a Challenger once, got absolutely stomped, the only thing I learned is that matchmaking is horrendous sometimes.

It would be like facing one of the top pitchers in Major League Baseball as a person that plays softball on weekends, give me a break.

catastrophicSkil2 votes

It doesn't matter a players ranked even if you lose a game to someone that is the same MMR but they just played better what is the difference there isn't any rank is just a number i dont get why people don't understand this. Also you learn from people who are better than you playing against people who are worse or the same generally teach you little to nothing

MrStealYoGanks3 votes

If you aren't learning anything when you lose games against higher tier players, that might be a reason as to why you can't move up. There is always something to learn whether you win or lose, always room for improvement.

Anags1 votes

He isn't bronze or silver. He is a diamond elo player on a smurf. The system put him against high level players. The system isn't that terrible given what it has to do. And everything just got reset. Soloq will be better and always has been because there are more players typically and less variables for matchmaking as you can only duo/solo.

rtbf2256182412 votes

Actually it explicitly said it will be a soft reset.

"sigh"

Aptest6 votes

im still waiting for MMR to stabilize. so far games have been horrid. probably because MMR still unstable for everyone.

My Sea Cow3 votes

Yeah match making is awful in flex. My friend was against plats in 3 games and he's in Bronze! It's totally unreasonable and unfair to bronze players or anyone facing a super higher division!

dominusx3 votes

10-0 bronze 5 on hard mmr reset? i spy with my little eye a butthurt liar!. Dont worry if you are bad you gonna stay where you are anyway good player will climb in less than 2-3 days i placed gold 1 with 6-4 and im getting 30lp per win so yeah.. in solo i'm diamond

[slayer-jinx-unamused] I placed bronze 4 after going 4-6. I was silver last season. Half of my promo games had trolls or afks. My bot lane rage quit at 3mins for no reason in one game. The games after placements have been total fiestas. Half the time my team either feeds their lanes or throws the game in some horrid fashion.

Make ranked great again.

You are typically supposed to place an entire tier lower i.e. Silver 4 to Bronze 4, Diamond 4 to plat 4

I'm not surprised, but the quality of games was crazy out of control.

The new flexQ is flawless, so is the new solo/duo. Completely flawless, I have never had so much fun in my life, the new plants and matchmaking are fantastic! Thank you for your hard work Riot. You are the best.

had a diamond duo with a bronze player on my team and the diamond player let his bronze friend go yasuo mid...... ty rito

I get that it's meant to be a soft reset or whatever. But I got dropped AN ENTIRE TIER off placements and am still getting matched with significantly lower MMR players (literally a ~400-600 MMR difference considering I sat at around 1800-2000 MMR all season with a Solo Preference).

catastrophicSkil8 votes

flex is a hard reset everyone started at 1200 MMR the MMR in flex has 0 to do with solo Q MMR that you had in S6 its completely new

TheMobius402 votes

I ended s6 in Gold III, and got placed into Gold II after Flex placements. Probably an outlier, but proves that not all players will be placed lower than their previous rank. When the window pops up stating your new rank after placements, for example, it says that most players will receive a lower rank. Not all of them. For the statistically inclined, I won 8/10 of my placement matches. One of which was a gold team vs. a plat/diamond team; we got lucky and pulled through.

I believe placements matchmaking is different from normal matchmaking as well. If you go on a 3 win streak in placements, it will match you against much higher ranked players to try and gauge your skill level if it is much higher than your current rank. This may be the bronze vs. plat instance that you've seen. It also works vice-versa; if you go on a losing streak, it'll match you against lower-ranked players to see if you belong in a lower rank. This shouldn't apply, however, to standard ranked games, unless your MMR is through the roof.

Just my two cents. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It's a hard MMR reset. Literally everyone, Bronze to Challenger, starts off at the same MMR and play in the same games. It's gonna work itself out over time.

LatetotheRace2 votes

Matchmaking is actually perfect. Everyone starts at the same mmr, this will fix itself in a month. Chill the hell out.

Trias0002 votes

But why couldn't they just copy the solo queue MMR?

Cowseed4 votes

Because this is not solo queue. This is flex queue and is meant for TEAMS! Stop being butt hurt and chill out.

Trias0001 votes

{quoted}

Because this is not solo queue.

So? The initial MMR could be the same, and it would change later (and in most cases it probably wouldn't change by much). It would make much more sense than resetting MMR completely.

Cowseed1 votes

It would. If you consider that riot has to match teams of 5 against other teams of five in dynamic that just means that 5 man premades are going to have a different play-style and the solo-q mmr might not even reflect how you would play with your own well established premade.

Trias0001 votes

And that means everyone should have the same MMR?

Cowseed2 votes

What? I've had perfectly fine games. All summoners with a fairly equal rank and skill levels. Also this is a completely seperate queue. I'm not too suprised people in high elo are being placed in bronze. It's not like they are going to stay their forever. They are probably going to skip whole divisions and be where they're supposed to be.

Also this is PRESEASON! Don't be surprised if all Flex ranks reset and the beginning of the official season. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Veritas Synergy2 votes

Riot is apparently filled with morons, making 10 versions of Lux Sailor Moon, but can't try to make a decent ranked system. Blizzard does it. Weird.

Ha. Ha. HA. HA.

http://us.battle.net/forums/en/heroes/13267618/

As of the moment I make this post, there are 8 threads complaining about matchmaking on the first page, 5 more on the second.

http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/22813934/

13 posts complaining about matchmaking (or competitive in general), 1 that basically says "you are where you belong," and 1 that talks about getting a 22 game win streak to get into Masters (not sure if that is evidence of poor matchmaking or not).

Yeah - Blizzard doesnt have it down. Remember now, Blizzard is the one that had a system similar to Dynamic Queue in Hero League for HotS before League did, but ended up changing it to more of a Solo/Duo Queue. And Blizzard still has a Dynamic Queue system for competitive Overwatch.

Edit - Oh, lets not forget that in Overwatch, the Skill Rating ranking was affected by the Hero you play. If you played low-damage Healers that dont get much in the metrics for Elims or Damage, you got less SR.
