The might of the Shadow Isles: Theorycrafting an ADC-less teamcomp

CupcakeTrap··3 votes·2,582 views

It's obvious why ADCs are part of the standard teamcomp. They have unmatched late-game scaling, they rely primarily on gold rather than XP (so they can duo-lane effectively), and they have outstanding sustained ranged DPS (allowing them to shred down tanky targets). The meta is the meta for a reason.

But I'd like to tap into the strategic expertise of this board and see what sorts of strategies people can concoct for an ADC-less teamcomp. My purpose is partially to better understand the meta through exploring alternatives, and partially because the Shadow Isles are getting wrecked in Factions and I want to figure out how we can get spookier in time for Halloween the Harrowing.

So here's your lineup.

http://i.imgur.com/jL63a6K.png Elise Evelynn Fiddlesticks Hecarim Karthus Mordekaiser Nocturne Thresh Yorick Urgot (Source: Factions roster for the Shadow Isles) The roster's recently been expanded to bring in Urgot, who is—figuratively and perhaps also literally—only "half" of an ADC, given his "AD caster" identity. He's still rather counter-meta.

Let's say you know you'll be going up against more conventional teams with ADCs.

What sort of team would you run?

How would you adapt your strategies to leverage that teamcomp against a traditional teamcomp?

Do you take Urgot and try to run a more conventional comp, or do you go back to the drawing board?

It depends on what you want your ADC to do. If you want to stick somewhat close to the meta, pick Elise as your ADC and just build her AD. ADC's don't need AD scaling on their abilities (see Trist), and Elise could provide constant ranged damage.

Urgot's from Noxus, so thematically I would avoid him. If Karthus could auto attack while dead I'd pick him as ADC so he could just dive towers and harass them.

Honestly, I'd look to mix things up. Don't stick with the meta. Do stuff your enemies won't expect to drive fear into their hearts.

Screw ADCs. Put Fiddlesticks/Thresh bot lane for amazing harass and powerful chain CC, throw Hecarim in the jungle, Mordekaiser top, and Karthus mid. Ult their ADC and blow him up with Kathus + Hecarim + Morde + Fiddle CC, then proceed to have an ADC on your team anyway.

not shure if noc wouldn'T work better than heca, his ult works pretty nice with fiddle ult(deny vision so they don'T see fiddle comming), and his singletarget dive is even stronger than hecas for the morde ult

I would personally go either Yorick or Thresh for ADC, Fiddlesticks or Elise for support, Hecarim or Evelyn for top, Karthus or Morde for Mid, and then pick a jungler from the many jungle capable champions that did not fill other positions.

Yorick needs a few items to get rolling, so depending on how easily the enemy support can shut you down he could be a fantastic pick. If your own support can lock their bot lane down for a moment you can deal a ridiculous amount of damage without putting yourself in a position to take damage in turn. Thresh, on the other hand, is the very definition of why ADCs don't typically get a lot of CC in their kits. Just time your flay empowered auto attacks well and don't engage when a fight is not clearly in your favor, and you'll do fine.

Top lane might need a bit of camping early on, but both Hecarim and Evelyn can snowball up there. Both are capable of roaming mid and counter jungling and can easily fill the bruiser role your team will be needing.

Mid lane just depends on what you need, as both Karthus and Morde are natural mid laners.

The jungle, again, depends on who was not picked for the lanes. Most of the Shadow Isle champions are strong junglers, and so this role should be the easiest to fill.

Just a theory, but basically the way that SI is going to win games is by shutting down the enemy ADC in early game and then winning the game in the mid game, with that in mind, wouldn't a bully-centric duo bot lane with, Urgot and Yorick , for example, work pretty well to bully the opposing adc out of lane. ( I still think we should make a comp built around Karthus jungle, as a pocket pick, just because nobody else would be prepared to deal with something like that

Urgot top, Elise jungle,Karthus mid, Yorick +Mordekaiser bot.

Urgot does his thing, bullies top if possible. Brings poke. range, and some semblance of physical damage to the team directly.

Elise focuses on ganking for urgot and keeping karthus going. Brings engage, a little peel, some execute/burst

Karthus does his thing, gets farmed, becomes a god in late game. Presses R in teamfights.

Now here's the real key to the comp: Yorick feeds the living daylights out of the enemy ADC while mordekaiser farms up.

In teamfights, the team focuses the enemy adc to the extreme. In order to do this, Mordekaiser MUST dfg+ult the enemy ADC at the beginning and that ADC must die (karthus ult to help with this). Yorick then ults the ADC ghost, and suddenly the shadow isles team has 2 fed adcs and the enemy team has 0, GGWP

either a morde+karth hyper-ap-carry-combo(probably with fiddle and thresh for cc and noc for physical damage) or a early dominance team: urgot+thresh bot, yorik top, elise jungle and fiddle or morde mid

(AP) Teemo Taric used to be a carry stomping botlane 2 yeara ago. Sadly both champs have been nerfed severely since then.

meta has its merits, but its really how you play as a team. various ways to do this.

if i were to pick a comp that would fit the way i would play:

jungle: hecarim

bot lane: fiddlesticks, either thresh or yorick

top lane: urgot

mid: karthus

Top : Yorick, if he still works as a stifling lane bully (haven't played seriously in months lol) so their top lane is irrelevant Jungle : Elise, Eve or Hecarim works, either invade or counter-jungle or counter-gank Mid : Mordekaiser, he's the crux of your strategy. Get that ghost and wreck team fights Bot : Urgot and Thresh. Once again, the idea here is to make the enemy bot lane weak by dominating really hard early game.

The team would suck against a very tanky team with an hypercarry, but basically you're goal is to dominate your lanes and burst down the enemy carry so you have a ghost that can take down towers witout too much difficulty. Push for a very quick win

I apologize for being the party pooper, but why is this being discussed here instead of, oh I don't know, the fancy Factions Shadow Isles board that the admin put work into setting up and promoting?
